New Year Diary

With the late December there comes a traditional time to round up the year passing by and build the plans for future. Within the past 12 months we have paid a lot of efforts to polishing the technical side of the game and developing the PvP-part of Survarium. Thus, we introduced the new graphics renderer for low-end PCs, pixel-perfect hit registration, pingless network synchronization, multiple improvements to the game’s performance and stability. A key step towards the fair play in Survarium was made with the integration of BattlEye anti-cheat service.

Among the key gameplay innovations there have been weapon modules, Artifact Hunt mode, tactical supplies, quick commands with voiceover, new user interface, changes in the Leagues system, daily quests and login rewards, as well as new weapons, in particularly pistols that we have focused on in the last few updates. Adding AI-controlled characters (bots) was yet another important step to have the project progress.

All those changes allow us build ambitious plans for the future of Survarium.

Having finalized the work on update 0.45 we got down to forming the development plans and priorities for the next year. Heated discussions are still going, but the top priority tasks have already been defined. Here’s the list:

Rebalancing weapons and gear

We want to bring the game weapons and gear to a simpler structure and make it more transparent to the players. For example, to implement a predictable scatter of fire, the more vividly defined classes of armor, make the gear weight impact the speed of movement more and so on. Additionally, we plan to reduce the overall number of equipment tiers in the game, which will not only provide more variations within each particular tier, but will also ensure faster match-making.

Modifying the system of anomalies and artifacts

We have received so many requests to revert to the old anomalies in the game that we cannot, but satisfy. We want to find the right balance between the use of static and dynamic anomalies, while ensuring they are correctly written into the canvas of the game in terms of balance between the opposing teams. In parallel to the changes in anomalies we also plan to revamp the characteristics and features of the artifacts, so as to make them more influencing the gameplay.

Co-op

We haven’t forgotten and realize how important it is to develop new possibilities for the players, the traditional PvP modes aside. As first step, making use of the computer opponents, we would like to provide you with co-op missions playthrough on the dedicated maps. Further on, we plan to improve the abilities of the AI characters and add new types of NPCs, including animals and mutants, which will allow us improving the PvE component in the future.

System of skills and talents

We plan to redesign the current system of character skills to make the talent effects more sizeable, on one hand, and to make the factions differ more from each other, on the other one. Therefore, we plan to implement both universal skills for all the characters, so as individual ones, available purely with specific factions.

Advanced system of weapons modules

The system of weapons modification with modules has been a welcome addition with the players, so we’d like to expand the possibilities in that area. This relates as to increasing the overall number of weapon modules available, so as to changing the system of bonuses the modules deliver.

New weapons and gear, new maps

Of course, we couldn’t do without such things, so we are going to integrate those as our resources permit.

These are the key changes to Survarium we plan to make within the coming year. Further details on each of the features listed and more can be expected as we get to implementing those in-game.

Gameplay

    Introduced the Winter Hat. When equipped, the hat provides a bonus to the holiday currency you get for completing missions. The hat increases each reward by +2 in the corresponding currency.
    You will receive the hat after winning a match.
    The hat is red on enemies and blue on allies. This way it's easier to be identified by your opponents, but you also get a bonus to holiday currency for completing missions.

Equipment and Weapons

    The tracer color of the NY 2017 weapons is now blue.
    All pistols provide +10% bonus to character experience. Premium pistols provide +25% bonus (following your requests we decided to change bonus to silver to something more useful).
    Premium Glock 17 pistol is now available on Tier 9 equipment of Scavengers faction.
    As before, you can also obtain a rare Glock 17 pistol as a drop from a reward box for completing all 3 Daily Quests

Bug Fixes

    Fixed issues leading to the client crashes.
    Fixed an issue with receiving wrong notifications upon buying holiday currency.
    Fixed the client lagging when visualizing ping.
    Fixed the client crash when watching match replays.
    Fixed the Holiday Tree: changed the lamps (toys).
    Updated Polish, Spanish and Ukrainian localisations.

Holiday Season Event in Survarium

    Holiday tree has been added to the lobby.
    Introduced a new holiday musical soundtrack in the main menu.
    Accomplish in-game missions to earn the holiday currency: snowflakes, fir trees and stars.
    You will also get one piece of holiday currency (of a random type) after a match.
    Exchange the currency to get weapons with unique holiday camo!
    Exchange the snowflakes for Valmet Rk.62 NY 2017 (5th equipment tier): +7% bonus to spare parts gain and a unique camo. Other weapon's stats correspond to those of the Valmet Rk.62.
    Exchange the spruce trees for M4A1 NY 2017 (8th equipment tier): +10% bonus to spare parts gain and a unique camo. Other weapon's stats correspond to those of the M4A1.
    Exchange the stars for FN Minimi NY 2017 (10th equipment tier): +15% bonus to spare parts gain and a unique camo. Other weapon's stats correspond to those of the FN Minimi.

Gameplay

    Added 10 seconds delay before displaying batteries on the mini-map. Batteries still won't be displayed on the mini-map when a battery is on its respawn point, or it is put into the device at a base, or it is carried by a character.
    A box for completing all 3 Daily Quests now has 4 more potential rewards: experience, reputation, pants and a jacket.

Technical Changes

    Red cross over the crosshair when you kill an opponent is displayed with a 50 ms delay (and doesn't depend on the ping).
    The delay is now displayed instead of the ping.
    Updated BattlEye Anticheat.
    Updated optimal settings for new video cards.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed synchronization on the game client side.
    Fixed synchronization on the game server side.
    Fixed the game client crash.
    Fixed an issue when competed Daily Quests were displayed incorrectly.

Winter Holidays in Survarium Start Soon!

Christmas and New Year holidays are coming. By tradition, we invite you to spend the New Year together with other survivors and take part in our special game event! From December 23 until January 9 accomplish the special in-game missions to earn the holiday currency: snowflakes, fir-trees and stars. Collect the necessary number of items and exchange them to get weapons with unique holiday camo!

The following weapons are available to collect: Valmet Rk.62 (5th tier), M4A1 (8th tier) and FN Minimi (10th tier). On top of the unique camo, the winter holidays weapons will yield a bonus of spare parts: +7%, +10% and +15% accordingly. Finally, the winter holidays weapons have electric-blue tracers when shooting.

Survarium Update 0.45 Highlights

Daily Rewards

Following your multiple requests we are returning the incentive to login to the game more often. You will be receiving special bonuses for daily logins. Every fifth day you will receive extra rewards and on reaching the 15th day – a unique reward.

Daily Quests

To make the in-game quests more varied is yet another long awaited request from the community which we are also happy to satisfy. On top of the traditional missions the game will offer new daily quests which can bring you not only extra silver, experience points and reputation with the faction, but unique rewards too! These quests are simple, yet varied: win a match, play in squad, make x-number of frags with a specific weapon type, play for a specific faction and so on.

New Weapons

We continue expanding the arsenals of factions with new weapons. At the rank of Wachmeister (6th tier) the Black Market will offer a Colt M1911 pistol. This very pistol was recently voted for by the Survarium community and we are glad to fulfil the request of the players. The second new weapon in the game is Glock 17 pistol, which is to broaden the arsenal of the Scavengers.

Technical Improvements

With this update we introduce "pingless" network synchronization. In previous implementations of the network synchronization we continuously reduced the delay of player inputs, but it remained constant for everybody in the match. With 0.45 we make that value an individual one, so you are no longer dependent on the network conditions of other players. Besides, we minimize the response time to change of the network conditions, which will considerably reduce the number of input shifts without increasing the delay parameter much. All that will result in improved comfort of play regardless of the systems' performance and network conditions of other players in the match.

Daily Rewards

    Log into the game regularly to gather more bonuses.

Daily Quests

    These quests are updated daily. Daily Quests are separate from missions.
    Daily Quests are easier than missions, but cannot be further simplified.
    You will receive a reward for each of the Daily Quests.
    Complete all 3 Daily Quests and receive an additional reward: a box that contains various items including rare equipment (with a small chance).

Gameplay

    You can now interrupt reloading by sprinting.
    Spawn invulnerability time reduced from 6 to 3 seconds.
    Changed draw and holster times for all weapons. Sniper rifles have the longest time, pistols have the shortest.
    Every pistol is drawn in 0.4 sec and holstered in 0.5 sec.
    Batteries left on the ground in Battery Retrieval mode are now displayed on the mini-map so teams do not hide batteries.
    Batteries are not displayed on the mini-map in the following cases: a battery is on its respawn point, or it is put into the device at a base, or it is carried by a character.

Locations

    Removed spawn points near battery storage in Battery Retrieval mode.
    Removed spawn points near artifact storage in Artifact Hunt mode.
    Changed artifact spawn points in Artifact Hunt mode.

Technical Changes

    Improved network synchronization due to introduction of individual delay for each of the players.
    Now you are no longer dependent on the network conditions of other players.

Equipment and Weapons

    New pistol

      Glock 17

        Damage is 24, armor-piercing is 45, rate of fire is 450, weight is 0,9 кг, magazine size is 17. At the moment available only as a rare drop from a box you get when completing all 3 Daily Quests.

      Colt M1911

        At the moment available as the Daily Login reward for veteran players on the 15th day.

      Colt Python

        Damage increased from 40 to 60.

    Bug Fixes

      Fixed various UI issues.
      Fixed all known issues that lead to crashes of the matchmaking servers.
      Fixed issues when using a mouse with a high poll rate.

Update 0.45 is on the PTS!

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.45 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version or update the previously installed one. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.44. Please note that the temporary shutdowns of the PTS are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered in Survarium no later than December 5. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system.

All testers will receive 10 thousand spare parts, 10 million silver, and 10 thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. Characters and progress in the main game as of December 5 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Read the update notes of Survarium 0.45 below. Please note that those are not final and The public server will receive version improved based on the results of the testing! See you on the PTS!

Update 0.45 Preview

Hi everybody!

Since the launch of the Survarium 0.44 update we’ve released over 30 hotfixes aimed at boosting the game’s performance and stability. Those changes have largely determined the direction of the next big Survarium 0.45 update, but that’s not all that we’ve been preparing for you. Let’s briefly discuss the key innovations to be introduced with Survarium update 0.45 expected in the coming weeks.

Daily Rewards

Enter the game regularly to gather more bonuses. Every fifth day you will receive extra rewards and on reaching the 15th day – a unique pistol you cannot receive by any other means.

Having accomplished daily quests you will receive the possibility to loot a special stash and obtain one of the rewards available, including useful boosters, gear, spare parts for modification, as well as unique weapons!

New Weapons

We continue expanding the arsenals of factions with new weapons. At the rank of Wachmeister (6th tier) the Black Market will offer a Colt M1911 pistol. This very pistol was recently voted for by the Survarium community and we are glad to fulfil the request of the players.

Technical Improvements

As already mentioned, we’ve been paying major attention to resolving the issues of technical optimization and improving the game’s comfort of play. On top of the improvements available with the recent hotfixes, Survarium update 0.45 will introduce "pingless" network synchronization.

In previous implementations of the network synchronization we continuously reduced the delay of player inputs, but it remained constant for everybody in the match. With 0.45 we will make that value an individual one. Now you are no longer dependent on the network conditions of other players. Besides, we will minimize the response time to change of the network conditions, which will considerably reduce the number of input shifts without increasing the delay parameter much. We will also minimize the time between the input generated and sent thanks to a more precise synchronization of threads on the client and more precise timing on the server. All that will result in improved comfort of play regardless of the systems’ performance and network conditions of other players in the match.

Gameplay Changes

We have also been working on gameplay improvements which have been postponed for too long. First off, this refers to situational imbalance on certain game maps, as well as abuse of various game mechanics.

As the first step, we are going to change the mechanism of the player’s shield at respawn. It is frequent that players under full shield could effortlessly do away with the opponents. Now we will reduce the overall shield time after respawn.

We are also aiming to improve the balance of the play modes. For example, in the Battery Retrieval mode players too often cannot steal the battery from the enemy due to their base being too close to the battery storage device. Another problem is related to the batteries are being thrown into map places impossible to access. Based on your feedback and requests we are going to implement such improvements throughout all the play modes in the nearest updates.

The Holiday Season in Survarium

The Holiday season is about to start. Certainly we cannot stay idle and have been preparing to celebrate the New Year in the world of survivors. Stand by for a special game event, rewards and, of course, the Holiday tree! More details about the event to be shared later.

Gameplay

    November Seasonal League has started.
    To participate in ranked battles you need at least equipment tier 5.
    To speed up matchmaking there are only two equipment brackets available: equipment tiers from 8th to 10th (bracket #1) and equipment tiers from 5th to 7th (bracket #2). For instance, if you queue into a ranked match with equipment tier 9, be ready to fight in a battle with players equipped with items of tiers 8 to 10.
    For reaching rank #1 in the season you will receive an FN SCAR-H with a unique camouflage skin. It will not be obtainable in any other way!
    Premium boosters were added as prizes for reaching ranks from #4 to #1.
    You will get 50% more experience, reputation and silver for ranked battles. Moreover, kills for unlocking weapon modules in ranked battles will be counted with a x1.5 coefficient (for instance, 10 kills in a ranked match will be counted as 15 kills for a module unlock progress).
    You can now view previous leagues history, i.e. ranks you’ve achieved before. You can access not only your history, but also your friends’ and clanmates’ history.
    You can now lose a rank, but this applies only to the ranks 2, 3, 4. You cannot lose rank #1 and cannot fall down from the rank #5.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed matchmaking interface.
    Fixed collision issues with С-4, PMN, and MON-50.
    Fixed АК-74N '82 camoflage.
    Fixed an issue when bots were using APS on lower equipment tiers.
    It's now impossible to increase equipment tier during matchmaking.
    Fixed Champion achievement.
    Added "Time before a match starts" functionality for newcomers.
    Removed an incorrectly displayed line in the Shop.
    Fixed overlapping text in the Shop.
    Fixed matchmaking for squads.

Soon - Halloween Event in Survarium!

Soon we will have a Halloween event in Survarium! During the event you will receive additional currency for completing missions: pumpkins, spiders and skulls. Collect enough of those and exchange them for the unique halloween weapons! You can get SPAS-12 (4th equipment tier), FN FNC (7th equipment tier) and VHS-2 (10th equipment tier).



Moreover, for the first victory during the Halloween event you will get a magical pumpkin hat. Put on the hat to receive more pumpkins, spiders and skulls for the missions! Premium account increases the amount of currency as well.

The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system.

All testers will receive 10 thousand spare parts, 10 million silver, and 10 thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of October 20 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Gameplay

    Team Deathmatch: you now get 15 points for a kill, but lose 5 points on death.
    Battles are divided into Random and Ranked. You can choose in which to play.
    The bot difficulty in battles for newcomers was decreased.
    The bots are now available in all game modes except "Artifact Hunt" and on all locations except London, Mamayev Kurgan and Vector Laboratory.

    In the Random Battle mode

      Both individual players and squads will be allowed;
      Any equipment tier is allowed;
      Battles are always 8 vs 8;
      Expansion of gear tiers during matchmaking is prohibited: if you are wearing a tier-6 gear, the game will match-make you into a 6-level match only;
      Instead of expanding the tiers during matchmaking the number of bots added will increase, but no more than half of the team;
      The player ranking in Random Battles is calculated individually based on ELO formula;
      The teams are balanced based on the player ranking, bots are added in equal numbers into both teams;
      As always, when searching for a game you can disable two of the four game modes;
      The results of the battle do not affect your progress in the Leagues;
      Based on the battle results you receive experience, silver, reputation with your faction and trophies (when victorious).

    In the Ranking Match mode (Leagues)

      Only game characters of level 4 and above will be allowed;
      Only solo players will be allowed, no squads admitted*;
      Battles are always 8 vs 8 players;
      Expansion of the equipment tiers is prohibited: if you are wearing tier-6 gear, the game will match-make you into a 6-level match;
      Match making is based only on the gear tiers 4, 6, 8 and 10. If you equip tier-5 gear you will be matched into a 6th level match, if 7th – level 8, if the 9th – level 10 respectively;
      As always, the Leagues require a certain gear level for you to progress;
      The position of the player in ranking matches does not depend on that as in the Random Battles and is calculated individually based on the ELO formula;
      The teams are balanced as equal (in terms of summarized ranking of the players) as possible; the match-making continues until such balance is ensured;
      Choosing game modes is disabled;
      The battle result impacts your progress in the Leagues as follows (players are sorted based on the number of points gained in the match):

      In the winning team

        The top 4 players receive 1 star
        The 5th player receives 0.75 star
        The 6th player receives 0.5 star
        The 7th player receives 0.25 star
        The 8th player receives no stars

      In the losing team

        The 5-8th players lose 1 star
        The 4th player loses 0.75 star
        The 3rd player loses 0.5 star
        The 2nd player loses 0.25 star
        The top player loses nothing

User Interface

    Improved information about the point status in "Research" game mode (it's now clear which team captures the point).

Technical Changes

    A new monthly League has started. It will end as usual at the end of the month.
    Introduced a new in-game shop.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed an issue leading to the client crash while showing info about a bad connection.

New in Survarium - Random Battle and Ranking Match

Hi everybody! After the release of Update 0.44 we have planned a few hefty changes to the game that we would like to share with you today.

The first change is about splitting all the battles into two variations, Random and Ranking. Now you will be able to choose whether to play a standard match or a ranking based one (League). Let's take a close look at each of the scenarios.

In the Random Battle mode

    Both individual players and squads will be allowed
    Any equipment tier is allowed
    Battles are always 8 vs 8
    Expansion of gear tiers during matchmaking is prohibited: if you are wearing a tier-6 gear, the game will match-make you into a 6-level match only
    Instead of expanding the tiers during matchmaking the number of bots added will increase, but no more than half of the team
    The player ranking in Random Battles is calculated individually based on ELO formula
    The teams are balanced based on the player ranking, bots are added in equal numbers into both teams
    As always, when searching for a game you can disable two of the four game modes
    The results of the battle do not affect your progress in the Leagues

Other Changes

To complete the integration of all the features mentioned above we need some more time, therefore we decided to extend the current Leagues Season by one week and to open the new Season on October 7th. It will become a bit shorter and hugely experimental, but we hope you will like the new rules.

In addition, we're planning slight changes to the Team Deathmatch mode. Now each kill will give you not 10, but 15 points. However, each death will have 5 points deducted from your score.

The launch of the game update featuring the changes mentioned is planned for October 7th.

*To support the clans and squad play we plan to introduce a "Team vs Team" play mode in one of the future updates. There you will be able to gather your team and invite another team to battle against yours (5 vs 5 players minimum).

NVIDIA has released videocard driver 372.90 in which they have fixed an issue of the previous driver when textures and objects were missing in Survarium. We recommend you to update the driver to the version 372.90.

The Complete List of Changes

Gameplay

    Weekly Treasure Hunt event has been introduced into the game instead of location search after each match. The main prize and the number of trophies in Treasure Hunt depend on the maximum faction level of your character.
    You will now receive an additional reward (silver and spare parts) for wins.
    You will now have a chance to get a free stash map for a win. You can get up to 2 free stash maps per week. You can have up to 2 free stash maps at any moment (the restriction applies only to stash maps you get for free).
    Grenade toss time decreased to 0.8 sec.
    Changed the time required to swap a weapon. The heavier the weapon, the more time it takes to pull it out or holster:

      For weapons lighter than 1 kg: pull out – 0.6с, holster – 0.4 sec.
      For weapons from 1 to 2.5 kg: pull out – 0.7 sec, holster – 0.5 sec.
      For weapons from 2.5 to 5 kg: pull out – 0.9 sec, holster – 0.5 sec.
      For weapons from 5 to 8 kg: pull out – 1.1 sec, holster – 0.6 sec.
      For weapons heavier than 8 kg: pull out – 1.3 sec, holster – 0.7 sec.

    Mines and explosives now can be destroyed by a bullet. Explosives won't detonate in this case.
    Mines and explosives now detonate when they are in an explosion radius of other explosive upon its detonation.
    You can now disarm explosives and traps while holding Glow of the Forest (Artifact Hunt mode).
    Decreased the health threshold below which the character's hands are considered broken.

Locations

    Added bots (AI opponents) for new players.
    Added an option to play a training match with bots (on any level).
    Bots (AI opponents) are available on the following locations: Rudnya, School, Vostok Radar Station, Chemical Plant, Tarakanovsky Fort, Cologne Bridge.
    Bots (AI opponents) are available in the following game modes: Team Deathmatch, Research, Battery Retrieval.

Equipment and Weapons

    Added MP-443 Grach (Yarygin pistol): damage – 30, armor-piercing – 30, rate of fire – 350. Available at the Renaissance Army on Captain rank.
    Added CZ-75 pistol: damage – 28, armor-piercing – 35, rate of fire – 350. Available at Scavengers on Veteran rank.
    Added Beretta 93R pistol: damage – 24, armor-piercing – 30, rate of fire – 700. A rare tier 7 pistol which can be found in Treasure Hunt.
    Plastic explosives C-4 added to the game. It is available at Black Market upon reaching Centurion rank.
    APS pistol is now available on the 7th equipment tier. Damage increased to 25, armor-piercing increased to 30.
    Colt Python revolver is now available on the 7th equipment tier. Damage increased to 40, armor-piercing increased to 40, rate of fire increased to 300.
    FN FNC, M4A1: added 3 rounds burst mode.
    L85A2: added 2 rounds burst mode.
    Slug: damage coefficient decreased to 50%.

Technical Changes

    Implemented BattlEye anticheat software. We will automatically ban all players who use hacks.
    Added sorting of the players' names by activity (non-active players and banned hackers are displayed in the end of the list).
    Initial graphics settings now can be automatically set based on the videocard's peformance.
    Increased width of the player name combo box in replays.
    Decreased the size of video memory when restrictions for resolution and resolution scale are applied in the renderer for slow PCs.

    "Battery Retrieval" game mode is now available in play vs. bots.
    Added post-match statistics in play vs. bots.
    Added a pause before play vs. bots match starts (so you have time to select an equipment profile).
    AI (bots) now can use first aid kits and tactical reload.
    AI is now more "humane": doesn't aim so quickly and reacts to enemies' deaths with a delay.
    AI now better reacts to sounds.
    When generating names of the bots, there's no repeats now.

Important! The PTS has specific matchmaking rules which make sure there is at least one bot in each team in a match. This is to better test bots on the PTS.

The number of bots per team increases by one every 10 seconds while you wait for a match to start. The maximum number of bots in a match is 14 (7 on each team).

Please also keep in mind that this PTS version has no new pistols. They will be added in the future updates of the PTS.

Greetings, survivors! Survarium 0.44 is just around the corner, and we are going to test the update on the PTS soon. Read all about the main features and changes coming in Survarium update 0.44 now!

What can you expect? A new trophy search, C-4 plastic explosives with remote detonator, bots for newcomers and high-tier pistols for the in-game factions!

Bots for Newcomers

One of the most important changes of the upcoming update is introduction of characters controlled by AI. These bots will not be able to challenge the players, since initially AI’s abilities will be limited. But the bots will become ideal sparring partners for the new players, so they can learn the game mechanics in a less stressful environment.

Starting with Survarium 0.44, all newcomers will play their first matches against bots. As the player completes more matches, the bots will be replaced with other players. This way newcomers can better adapt to the game’s increasing difficulty.

Please keep in mind that this is the first iteration of computer-controlled enemies. In the future we will continue improving the AI: the bots will learn to take cover, use special items, pick up and deliver batteries, and purposefully capture and hold key points. All of the above will allow use of the bots both in PvP and other game modes.



Treasure Hunt

One of the ways to acquire new equipment will also be significantly changed. Search for trophies after battles will no longer be available, and there will be a weekly event instead called Treasure Hunt.

Treasure Hunt is a lottery with a high quality item (unique or premium) as the best possible reward and other prizes. The number and quality of the prizes depend on your character’s maximum rank in a faction. For instance, you are able to get a tier 10 item only when you have reached the highest rank in one of the factions.

The cost of each search stays the same: 100 gold (or a stash map), and you will be able to get a few stash maps each week for free! As you get items, the number of available trophies will decrease with each search, and you will get a higher chance to get the main prize. Naturally, you can get it on your first try provided you are lucky enough.

Rewards after battle will be also increased. In addition to bonus experience, silver and reputation the winners will get several spare parts and, with a small chance, a free stash map. The number of stash maps one can get per week for free is limited.

New Pistols

Survarium Update 0.44 will for sure please people who love pistols. The game never used to have them as an effective weapon type on the higher equipment tiers. So in the upcoming update we will finally increase the number of available pistols.

Beretta 93R is a new rare tier 7 pistol. You can obtain in via the Treasure Hunt or buy with gold. Despite its age, the Beretta 93R is still a formidable weapon thanks to a huge magazine with 20 cartridges and automatic fire mode with 3 bullets burst.

CZ-75 is a semi-auto tier 7 pistol with a 16 ammo magazine; available from the Scavengers faction upon reaching Veteran rank. High muzzle energy together with a long sighting line provide both high armor penetration and accuracy. The tradeoff is big weight of the weapon.

Yarygin pistol (MP-443) is a semi-auto tier 7 pistol with 18 ammo magazine. Available from the Renaissance Army upon reaching Captain rank. A high firepower and huge magazine size make MP-443 a dangerous weapon.

Moreover, Colt Python revolver will be changed. The weapon is moved to tier 7 and its stats are adjusted accordingly.

A New Special Item: C-4 Explosive

Survarium Update 0.44 brings a new special item for Black Market fighters. C-4 explosive with a remote detonator is available on equipment tier 8 and takes the whole explosive slot. We hope you will like new tactical opportunities that present themselves with the introduction of this special item.

Survarium 0.43 Highlights

Inflicted Damage Visualization Improved

Now the hit marker (cross) corresponds more to the damage inflicted. When you inflict 10% or less small crosses will appear, in case of 10% to 20% – medium ones, if 50% and higher – large crosses. When the damage of your shot has been decreased by more than 20% we display additional identifiers above the enemy, so you can get a better understanding why the damage was lower. Finally, the killcam now displays the supplies and artifacts used by your killer.

Technical Improvements

We have optimized the critical parts of the code, so they use multi-thread calculations more actively (calculation of players, calculation of bullets, multi-thread renderer version for low-end PCs). This will allow the game to better use the calculation power of the processor and will increase the performance on those systems where the processor is the bottleneck. With some configurations we could achieve a gain of as much as 70%. Moreover, there are several improvements to the netcode: drawing characters during battle now depends on the individual players' pings.

New Weapons

The Fringe Settlers get to please their fans with Fort-401 light machinegun which replaces RPK-74m on tier 8. The RPK-74M is now available on the 8nd equipment tier of the Renaissance Army. Moreover, there are two new rare weapons: L85A2 – tier 8 assault rifle, and Pancor Jackhammer – tier 10 automatic shotgun.

Change of Item Modification Reroll Mechanics

Get the modifiers you want faster and spend surplus spare parts! Instead of being able to reroll modifiers using silver once per 6 hours, you now can reroll with a small amount of spare parts anytime. Please note, with the spare parts you get only one replacement option (but you can always stick to the current modifier). Premium currency will expand your selection of options.

Gameplay

    Changed the price and repair cost of many items.
    Repair costs of premium items are now the same as those of their general counterparts.
    Distance from which you can hear beeping of a sensor increased to 15 and 20 meters for throwing and stationary sensors correspondingly.
    Players will now get a penalty warning after 3 minutes of inactivity (i.e. not scoring any points in the battle, and not receiving or inflicting damage).
    If the player is inactive for 5 minutes, the match reward is halved, and the player doesn't get any ranked mode stars.

Locations

    Respawn invulnerability on Tarakanovsky Fort and Cologne Bridge has been reduced to 3 seconds (down from 6).
    Decreased the handrails sturdiness on Chemical Plant, Vostok Radar Station and Vector Laboratory. Now you can shoot though the handrails.
    Changed the chance to penetrate all objects on all locations.
    Reworked the lighting on Vector Laboratory.
    Onyx artifact now increases armor instead of directly decreasing damage your character takes.

User Interface

    Updated loading screens of Rudnya, School, Vostok Radar Station and Chemical Plant.
    Players' ranks in League are now displayed in the match.
    Cross size upon hitting an enemy now depends on the damage inflicted in the last 200 ms. The bigger the cross, the higher the damage.
    Icons over the player characters show their defense vs. incoming damage. You can disable the icons in the game options.
    The battle UI now shows the damage to your character's limbs.
    Game console is disabled by default. To turn on the console, please launch the game with "-developer_console" command line argument.
    In-game shop has received a separate list with rare weapons.

Equipment and Weapons

    You can now reroll the modifiers for spare parts and with no time restrictions.
    It's is no longer possible to reroll a modifier every 6 hours using silver.
    Reduced sight sway speed for all sniper weapons.
    Effective distance of all shotguns increased to 20 meters.
    Barrett M82: rate of fire decreased to 40 (down from 45).
    ASh-12: rate of fire decreased to 600, damage decreased to 33.
    Pancor Jackhammer: a new tier 10 rare automatic shotgun, Black Market.

Play Survarium 0.43 on the PTS!

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.43 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.41. Please note that the temporary shutdowns of the PTS are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered in Survarium no later than June 27. The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system. You can still play on public server after Survarium 0.43 release!

All testers will receive 10 thousand spare parts, 10 million silver, and 10 thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of June 27 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Update 0.43 Preview

Hello, survivors! The next Survarium update is on its way to the Public Test Server and today we'd like to tell you about the most important features of Survarium 0.43.

Read about the improvements to damage visualization, new weapons (an assault rifle, a light machine gun and a shotgun), client and server technical improvements, and changes to rerolling item modifications!

Inflicted Damage Visualization Improved

Lately we've received multiple complaints about "damage not going through". The main players' complaint is that weapons inflict much less damage than expected. Having reviewed and scrutinized several such cases we came to conclusion that the problem is in the opponent being able to abide under several damage-lowering effects. High armor, Onyx artifact, anesthetic, the Unstoppable skill – all that combined could lower the incoming damage by 81.5%! From the shooter's side this looks like small crosses and that the damage wouldn't go through.

To fix the situation described above Survarium 0.43 update will have the following changes introduced:

    Onyx artifact will now increase armor, but not reduce damage. This will make Onyx less efficient in the gear sets with already high armor. On top of that, Onyx will become more useful against sniper rifles and other weapons of high piercing qualities.
    We will change the enemy damage identifier, so as to make the size of the crosses correspond more to the damage inflicted. Thus, if you inflict 10% or less – small crosses will display, in case of 10% to 20% – medium ones, if 50% and higher – large crosses.
    When the damage of your shot has been decreased by more than 20% we will display additional identifiers above the enemy, so you can get a better understanding why the damage was lower.
    Finally, the killcam will display the supplies and artifacts used by your killer.

Technical Improvements

We continue paying a lot of attention to the technical component of the game. At the moment this remains our main priority and focus. Since the last update we have made several optimizations. Unfortunately, some of optimizations are too risky to release them to public server without prior testing on the PTS.

With the 0.43 update we have optimized the critical parts of the code, so they use multi-thread calculations more actively (calculation of players, calculation of bullets, multi-thread renderer version for low-end PCs). This will allow the game to better use the calculation power of the processor and will increase the performance on those systems where the processor is the bottleneck. With some configurations we could achieve a gain of as much as 70%.

Speaking of the technical side of the game, it is impossible to omit the deferred display of other players. As you know, to hide the impact of network speed (package losses, abrupt ping drops, etc.) on your screen you see other players in the place they were 200 ms ago. This leads to situations when the player coming out from the corner sees the opponent before that opponent can see him, therefore receiving an advantage.

At the time of public testing of the 0.42 update we attempted to reduce the deferred display to 150ms. Unfortunately, on top of the positive effect we also noted a massively increased number of resyncs and abrupt teleports of the opponent's character, so we reverted back to the previous parameter.

With hotfixes on the public server in Survarium 0.42 we resolved part of the resyncs, decreased the number of resyncs due to low fps and introduced compression of messages. Our next step is increasing the message dispatch frequency to work in tough network conditions. Following that we will try again to shorten the time of deferred display to 150ms. The key change to be introduced is the individual size of deferred display, which will depend on the player's ping only. Thanks to this during a shootout only the pings of the participants will matter, so the game becomes more comfortable for players with low pings.

New Weapons

The game's arsenal will expand with three new weapons at once.

The Fringe Settlers will please their fans with Fort-401 light machinegun to replace RPK-74m on tier 8 gear. The RPK-74m will now be available on the 8nd tier of the Renaissance Army.

On top of that, the game will introduce two new rare weapons you could discover in aftermatch stashes or purchase with gold.

L85A2 – tier 8 assault rifle. An improved version of the classic assault rifle of the British military forces. From the very beginning this bullpup assault rifle stood out with its high accuracy and low recoil, and thanks to the latest improvements the drawbacks and issues with reliability have been fixed.

Pancor Jackhammer – tier 10 shotgun. The bullpup composition of this legendary automatic shotgun provides for easier control of recoil, while the 10-bullet magazine will allow you to come out victorious from a clash with several opponents.

Change of Item Modification Reroll Mechanics

With the 0.43 update we are changing the mechanics of modifiers reroll on the items so you are able to get the one you want faster and spend surplus spare parts. So, instead of being able to reroll modifiers using silver once per 6 hours, you will be able to reroll with a small amount of spare parts anytime. Please note, with the spare parts you get only one replacement option (but you can always stick to the current modifier). Premium currency will expand your selection of options.

    Player characters are drawn and character controllers are computed in different threads now, thus making the framerate more stable and the game more comfortable.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed a rare matchmaking issue leading to one team being much stronger than the other.

    Fixed an issue leading to the delay in charging the repair costs after a match. Because of this you could think you lose silver when selling items.

Survarium 0.42 Highlights

New Game Mode: Artifact Hunt

Two teams fight to acquire a rare artifact called Radiance of the Forest which spawns at a random location on the map. The team that finds and delivers the artifact to its base scores a point. The first team to score 5 points wins. Or, if the match time runs out, the team with more points wins.

At any given time, only one Radiance of the Forest will appear on the map, and its location is displayed to all players. The position of the player who has the artifact is also shown to everyone else on the mini map. The character that has Radiance of the Forest receives increased health regeneration from the artifact, but is slowed down and can't sprint. If the artifact is successfully delivered, the next round begins: both teams start back from their bases and fight to get the artifact again.

Monthly Rankings

By participating in any battle, you will receive stars for wins and stars for defeats. When you have enough stars you will automatically move up the next league. The higher you get, the harder it is to proceed, but the rewards are getting better and better. Each month players' positions in the leagues are reset.

Changes to the London Location

We have significantly reworked London so it's faster to get to the key points of the location from the respawn point. The topology of the level inside the tower has also been revised. These changes aim to increase the dynamics of battles on the map, increase the role of alternative routes and make shootouts in the central part of the location more frequent and important.

Pixel Perfect Hit Detection

Survarium 0.42 introduces the "unlimited tickrate" technology, which basically means that the tickrate doesn't affect hit and damage registration. So when firing at a moving target, you only need to take bullet speed and enemy position into consideration. Previously random factors (like different pings from the players to the server) affected that, and thus the enemy positions on your PC could be different from the ones on the server. Now, if an enemy is near (so the bullet travel time is insignificant), you only need to have the enemy in your sights, and the bullets will hit the target.

    You can now see the progress for unlocking weapon modules on post-match screen.
    Camera in the Workshop can be rotated by holding down either left or right mouse button.
    Added a new screen with the match results (displaying final scores of both teams and whether your team won or lost).

    Damage inflicted by toxic cloud of Sponge artifact increased.

Update 0.42 is on the PTS!

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.42 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.41. Please note that the temporary shutdowns of the PTS are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered in Survarium no later than April 27. The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system. You can still play on public server after Survarium 0.42 release!

All testers will receive 10 thousand spare parts, 10 million silver, and 10 thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of April 27 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Update 0.42 Preview

Hello, survivors! Recently we have shared our Survarium development plans with you. Today we are glad to announce that some of the promised features will make it into the Survarium Update 0.42 which is to be released pretty soon.

New Game Mode: Artifact Hunt

In this mode two teams fight to acquire a rare artifact called Radiance of the Forest which spawns in a random location on the map. The team that finds and delivers the artifact to its base scores a point. The first team to score 5 points wins. Or, if the match time runs out, the team with more points wins.

At any given time, only one Radiance of the Forest will appear on the map, and its location is displayed to all players. The position of the player who has the artifact is also shown to everyone else on the mini map. If the artifact is successfully delivered, the next round begins: both teams start back from their bases and fight to get the artifact again.

The character that has Radiance of the Forest receives increased health regeneration from the artifact, but is slowed down and can’t sprint.

We hope that Artifact Hunt will be to the liking of both new players and veterans.

Monthly Rankings

Survarium 0.42 introduces a new system of monthly rankings. By participating in any battle, you will receive stars for wins and stars for defeats. When you have enough stars you will automatically move up the next league. Each month players’ positions in the leagues are reset.

The higher you get, the harder it is to proceed, but the rewards are well worth it. Say, for reaching The 9th League you will receive a few silver coins, but for reaching The 1st League you get a chance to obtain some of the best items in the game (levels 9-10) with 3 modifiers.

New Weapons and Equipment

In Survarium Update 0.42 the game factions receive several new items.

Level 10 Scavengers get access to a new high caliber sniper rifle ASVK which replaces Barrett M82. The weapon characters currently have will be replaced by ASVK when the update goes live. You will keep all modifiers and modules, as well as kill progression to unlock the rest of modules. The Barrett M82 sniper rifle will be temporarily removed from the game.

Black Market fighters will get access to a legendary MP5A1 – level 6 submachine gun. Engineered back in the sixties, it is still a popular weapon thanks to its simplicity, reliability and common 9x19mm Parabellum cartridges.

Moreover, the game factions will receive full sets of mid-tier gloves and boots (levels 4-7).

Changes to the London Location

We have significantly reworked London in Survarium 0.42 so it’s faster to get to the key points of the location from the respawn point. The topology of the level inside the tower has also been revised. These changes aim to increase the dynamics of battles on the map, increase the role of alternative routes and make shootouts in the central part of the location more frequent and important.

Pixel Perfect Hit Detection

Experienced online-shooter players know that achieving pixel-correct hit/damage registration is a hard task. In the majority of online games the image you see on your monitor differs from the situation on the server. Several factors attribute to that. The main is that the pings between the players and the server are higher than zero, and, more importantly, diverge from each other.

Another important parameter is the server tickrate: how often the server updates and sends the information back to the clients. These and other factors lead to the enemy hitboxes (simplified 3D models which are used to register the damage) being different from the real positions of the characters on the screen.

In one of the previous updates we significantly improved the gameplay by introducing a delay for drawing characters in the past (and registering the damage correspondingly). Thanks to this, characters no longer have micro stutters, and animations are now more fluid, so it’s easier to aim at and hit an enemy.

Survarium 0.42 introduces the “unlimited tickrate” technology, which basically comes down to the fact that the tickrate doesn’t affect hit and damage registration. For you this means that when firing at a moving target, you only need to take bullet speed and enemy position into consideration. Previously random factors (we mentioned the most important ones above) affected that, so the enemy positions on your PC could be different from the ones on the server. Now, if an enemy is near (so the bullet travel time is insignificant), you only need to have the enemy in your sights, and the bullets will hit the target.

Chernobyl Disaster - 30 Years Later

It is exactly 30 years ago when this day in April became a turning point in the history of mankind. On that day the disastrous accident at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant made us look at the nuclear energy from another perspective and showed just how serious the consequences may be due to careless handling of the forces of nature and mankind’s inability to control them.

Chernobyl Disaster: 30 Years Later. We remember!

Many lives have been taken by the Chernobyl disaster. Colossal damage inflicted on the health of the population and surrounding areas. But it could have been much worse if not for the deeds of the brave people who sacrificed their lives to protect us from the catastrophe.

We express our deepest gratitude to the firemen, military and the Chernobyl NPP personnel, to all those who with their bare hands were putting out a nuclear fire at the power plant.

And although life goes on and new history is being written, we do not forget the catastrophe of the century and the deeds of the liquidators.

We remember!

Development Plans

Greetings survivors!

Back before the release of Survarium Update 0.40 we promised to discuss future development plans, however unfinished work on certain key innovations, such as the new graphics renderer prevented us from doing it. Now, that the new renderer has become available with the 0.41 update, we can catch our breath and discuss the development plans for the coming months. We are hopeful that today’s developer’s diary will give you the answers to your most topical questions.

For starters, let’s briefly sum up what has already been implemented in Survarium. From the very start we set ourselves an ambitious goal – to design Survarium as an MMOFPS game with a unique fully-developed universe, various in-game factions and gameplay featuring elements of survival in a post-apocalyptic world with anomalies and artifacts. We decided to start with the development of the team-play mode (PvP) as the basis of the game, and then add all other ideas on top.

We estimate the PvP mode is 80% complete at this point. We have delivered 4 game modes, 9 maps, over 70 weapons, 4 factions with unique sets of gear, 3 character skill trees, equipment modification system and weapon modules. The system of anomalies and artifacts has been created, so as a proprietary game engine written from scratch, including two versions of the renderer: for up-to-date and slow computers.

The big PvP innovations yet to be delivered include the clan system and the global map mode. Also there is a number of announced technological changes which are in the works, but yet have to be completed: the new navigation mesh, network synchronization 2.0, a more advanced anti-cheat system and graphics renderer optimization. We plan to add these features to Survarium in the coming months.

Now let’s talk about where Survarium will move globally and what our general plan for developing the game, based on the real state of things is. We also will answer the question asked by many of you: why does development go much slower than we would all like it to?

First important thing to realize: everything we earn month-to-month goes entirely to cover the development costs of Survarium. The higher the earnings, the more developers we can hire, the higher the development costs. Six months ago, having fully realized our possibilities, we changed our approach to the development. We started paying more time to solving the technical issues, first of all the stability and performance. Unfortunately we underestimated the challenges behind certain specific changes and not everything deemed has been integrated as yet. However, the positive moves have already been visible.

Compared to October 2015

    The monthly audience of Survarium and peak online players have doubled.
    Each player on average spends 25% more time in Survarium.
    The return of new players to the game has improved by 15%.

Those indicators are not yet sufficient to keep the development pace as high as we would like it to be. As of today we have a small team of developers working on the game. The forces we have right now are enough to keep improving the PvP part of Survarium and gradually integrate the PvE components. Yet our resources are absolutely insufficient to deliver the Freeplay mode in the near future.

How is the progress with Freeplay thus far? As of today we have the concept document ready, the preliminary technical tests and evaluations have been made, art concepts of monsters have been done. However, let’s be frank, this is not the state to demonstrate the game publicly and post regular news updates on it. As already mentioned, the main reason is that at the moment we have no resources available to boost the team considerably, so that we could simultaneously develop Freeplay and properly support the development of PvP. We are hoping the positive dynamics and general increase in the number of players following the recent updates 0.40 and 0.41 will allow us to gradually expand the team and speed up the development.

Now let’s define the list of the most noteworthy changes to the game we plan to implement in Survarium within the next 12 months (without specifying the order and delivery timing as yet):

Technical innovations

    Improvement of the new graphics renderer.
    New character controller and navigation mesh (required for introducing bots).
    Network synchronization improvements (continuous tickrate, ping impacts).
    Server-side anticheat.

PvP-elements

    1-2 new game modes.
    New game map.
    Global map mode (clan battles).
    Proper system of player rankings.
    The remaining skilltrees and supplies introduced.
    New weapons and gear items.

PvE-elements

    Non-player characters (bots).
    Co-operative missions.

This list may be expanded as Survarium develops.

The path described provides for a step-by-step evolution of the project. This path requires persistence and patience from all of us, but we are still hoping to get through it together with all of you – today your support is more important to us than ever before! On our side, we are prepared to inform you more regularly and more openly about what is happening in the development of the game at those given moments. This should enable us all to be on the same page.

Heroes of the Day

Compete in one or several of the daily nominations by simply playing the game! Become The Best Player by scoring as many points as possible in a single match. Win in Killstreak or Winstreak nominations by achieving the longest killstreak or winstreak correspondingly. The winners in each of the nomination categories get a unique icon displayed next to their names and a bonus to experience, reputation and silver for the next 24 hours.

Tactical Supplies

Survarium Update 0.41 adds new supplies to the game. Use the sensors to detect opponents and enemy mines or traps. Destroy anomalies with the Anomaly Capacitor, resupply your teammates with an Ammo Box, and heal them with the Healing Totem!

Changes to Equipment Parameters

Now the equipment of a higher level has better stats, specifically modifiers like decreasing recoil on gloves, movement speed on boots, etc. We are also changing the bleeding formula to this: the more weapon armor-piercing exceeds equipment armor, the higher the chance to cause a bleeding effect on a character hit. This makes higher tier equipment superior to lower tiers!

Version for Low-End PCs (New Renderer)

You can now enable a new renderer, which was developed specifically for older PCs and laptops. In this case performance can be substantially increased! However, keep in mind this is at the expense of image quality.

Further improvements to the UI

In Update 0.41 we have reworked most of the game screens from scratch. Now it's time to update the battle interface. Also we have updated the faction selection screen and added the funcionality to save and load up to 10 equipment presets.

In addition to tactical supplies, we are introducing the SVU, a semi-automatic sniper rifle with a bullpup configuration. Plus, Black Market, Scavengers and The Fringe Settlers get several new pieces of 4-7 tier equipment.

The Best Player. To secure the first place in this nomination you have to get more points in a single match than other players.
Killstreak. To win in this nomination you need to achieve the longest killstreak in a single match.
Winstreak. This nomination is for players who have the highest consecutive number of wins in matches.

Take the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in one of the nominations to get a bonus to experience, reputation and silver for the next 24 hours. You also get a unique icon which is displayed next to your nickname. When choosing the winners, only the last day's results are taken into account.

Gameplay

    The bleeding formula has been changed. The more weapon armor-piercing exceeds equipment armor, the higher the chance to cause a bleeding effect on a character hit.
    Bleeding may start when the health of a body part drops below a certain threshold.
    Introduced protection from the anomalies for the characters that have less than 10 battles (essentially the protection is for newcomers).

    Values of the majority of built-in modifiers are higher for high tier equipment.

Visuals and Animations

    You can now choose to use the new renderer. This will increase performance at the expense of visual quality.
    Added tactical reload animation for Vepr Wanderer.
    Updated lighting in the lobby.

User Interface

    Added visual presets you can choose from.
    The friends list now has a tab with a list of clan members.
    Updated the faction selection window.
    Match end screen has been updated.
    Battle UI has been updated.
    Death screen has been updated.
    Equipment descriptions in the shop have been updated. Now pros and cons are displayed.
    Rare weapons are marked are now marked with a star icon.

Installing Survarium 0.41 Tomorrow

Starting at 7AM GMT tomorrow the game servers will be temporarily unavailable due to the installation of Survarium 0.41. The expected downtime is about two hours. We will let you know as soon as the servers are back online, so you are able play the game. As usual, players with premium accounts affected by the downtime will be compensated for the length of maintenance.

Survarium Update 0.41a5 is on the PTS

UPDATED: Testing of Survarium 0.41a3 on the PTS will stop tonight at 8 pm Kiev time (GMT +3 hrs). Tomorrow we plan to resume testing the updated version of Survarium on the PTS. More news to follow.

Survarium 0.41a3 PTS Change Log

Supplies

    Pocket size for tactical supplies has been increased to 2.
    Throwing Scanner, Anomaly Capacitor, Antitoxin, Trap, and Smoke Grenade now take one place (you can put two of those into the pocket).
    Healing Totem, Stationary Scanner, and Ammo Box now take two places (you can put only one of those into the pocket).
    It's now impossible to use Healing Totem, Stationary Scanner, and Ammo Box indefinitely. You have to replenish those as the rest of supplies.
    Stationary and Throwing Scanners now mark enemies only on the minimap.
    Stationary and Throwing Scanners now scan the location once per second, not continuously.
    Stationary Scanner and Healing Totem now have 2 seconds delay before deployment.
    Anomaly Capacitor now flies faster: its speed is 12 meters per second (up from 8 m/s).
    The majority of new tactical supplies now have sound effects.
    Levels of supplies are now displayed. These levels also affect character equipment level.
    Parameters of the new tactical supplies are now displayed.

Equipment and Weapons

    "Sponge": damage in the center of the cloud created by the artifact is decreased to 20 per second.
    "Sponge": the damage is higher in the center of the cloud and drops to the edge, but not as drastic as before.
    "Sponge": the cloud duration increased to 15 seconds.
    ASh-12: damage decreased to 34.
    AK-12: damage increased to 28.
    FN Minimi: damage decreased to 24.
    Kriss Vector: damage decreased to 22.
    SVU: rate of fire increased to 250.

    H&K UMP-45: damage increased to 27.

Modifiers

    The range of possible run speed modifier values for level 10 equipment are now 1%-2.5% (up from 0.5%-2.5%).
    Possible run speed modifier values are now higher for high tier equipment.
    The range of possible recoil modifier values for level 10 gloves are now 2%-5% (up from 1%-5%).
    Values of the majority of built-in modifiers are higher for high tier equipment.

User Interface

    All minimaps have been updated.
    New items are displayed on your character in the game shop.
    Markers above sensors and totem have been disabled.
    Added a marker above an Ammo Box.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed camera in the Workshop.
    Throwing sensor no longer rolls indefinitely upon landing.

Watch Heroes of the Day in Survarium - Episode #3!

Official English Vostok Games YouTube channel has just been updated with the third Survarium Heroes of the Day video. The video highlights the most memorable and spectacular moments of the game. The series is all about you and made for you: we want to showcase the way you play Survarium and how you tackle in-game situations.

Survarium Update 0.41 is on the PTS!

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.41 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.40. Please note that the temporary shutdowns of the PTS are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered in Survarium no later than March 21. The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system. You can still play on public server after Survarium 0.41 release!

All testers will receive 10 thousand spare parts, 10 million silver, and 10 thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of March 21 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Read the update notes of Survarium 0.41 below. Please note that those are not final. The public server will receive version improved based on the results of the testing! See you on the PTS!

Heroes of the Day

Introduced daily rankings that let you competing for the first places and rewards in one or several nominations at once:

    The Best Player. To secure the first place in this nomination you have to get more points in a single match than other players.
    Killstreak. To win in this nomination you need to achieve the longest killstreak in a single match.
    Winstreak. This nomination is for players who have the highest consecutive number of wins in matches.

Take the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in one of the nominations to get a bonus to experience, reputation and silver for the next 24 hours. You also get a unique icon which is displayed next to your nickname. When choosing the winners, only the last day's results are taken into account.

Gameplay

    The bleeding formula has been changed. The more weapon armor-piercing exceeds equipment armor, the higher the chance to cause a bleeding effect on a character hit.
    Bleeding may start when the health of a body part drops below a certain threshold.
    Introduced protection from the anomalies for the characters that have less than 10 battles (essentially the protection is for newcomers).

Equipment and Weapons

    SVU: new level 8 sniper rifle, Scavengers.
    Stalker Helmet : new level 6 helmet, The Fringe Settlers.
    Sentry Helmet : new level 7 helmet, Black Market.
    Saboteur Helmet: new level 5 helmet, Scavengers.
    Biker Pants: new level 4 pants, Black Market.
    Maximum and minimum values of the modifiers now depend on the equipment level (bigger for higher level equipment).

Supplies

    Added a slot for tactical supplies. The list of tactical supplies is available below.
    Throwing Sensor. Tactical supply of level 6, Scavengers. Thrown like a grenade and detects enemies in 7.5 meter radius around itself. Lasts for 10 seconds.
    Stationary sensor. Tactical supply of level 8, Renaissance Army. Detects enemies in 15 meter radius around itself. Lasts for 30 seconds. Cooldown is 2 minutes. Can be destroyed.
    Anomaly capacitor. Tactical supply of level 2, The Fringe Settlers. Thrown like a grenade and destroys an anomaly.
    Healing totem. Tactical supply of level 8, The Fringe Settlers. Recovers 10% HP per second for all allies allies around 5 meter of itself. Lasts for 30 seconds. Cooldown is 2 minutes. Can be destroyed.
    Ammo box. Tactical supply of level 8, Scavengers. Allows you and your allies to replenish ammunition and supplies. Lasts for 30 seconds. Cooldown is 2 minutes. Can be destroyed.
    Trap is now a tactical supply of level 2, Black Market.
    Antitoxin is now a tactical supply of level 2, Scavengers.
    Smoke grenade is now a tactical supply of level 2, Black Market.
    MON-50 is now is now available at reputation level 6, Black Market.
    PMN-3 is now available at reputation level 6, The Fringe Settlers.
    Medkit is now available at reputation level 4, Scavengers.
    Army medkit is now available at reputation level 4, Renaissance Army.
    Painkillers is now available at reputation level 4, Black Market.
    Science medkit is now available at reputation level 4, The Fringe Settlers.
    RGO is now available at reputation level 2, Renaissance Army.

Survarium Update 0.41 Preview

Three weeks ago we have released a huge Survarium Update 0.40 which took us several months to develop. Luckily, you won't have to wait that long for the next update – the public testing of Survarium 0.41 will begin shortly.

We are also releasing a client fix (0.40c1) today which should eliminate the crashes during location loading. The fix does not require servers restart and will be applied automatically when you relog into the game. And now feel free to read about the main features of the upcoming update Survarium 0.41!

Heroes of the Day

In Survarium 0.41 we are introducing daily rankings that will let you to compete for the first places and rewards in one or several nominations at once.

Heroes of the Day: UI with the rules and prizes

New Supplies

Survarium Update 0.41 brings five new supplies into the game.

Throwing Sensor allows detecting opponents, enemy mines and traps in a small radius around itself for 10 seconds. To take the sensor into the battle, you have to reach level 6 rank with Scavengers.

Stationary Sensor allows detecting opponents, enemy mines and traps in 30m radius around itself for 30 seconds. Instead of throwing sensor, the stationary one can only be deployed near your character. The sensor can also be destroyed by weapon fire (including friendly fire) or a grenade. To equip Stationary Sensor, your rank in Renaissance Army needs to be at level 8 or higher.

Anomaly Capacitor destroys an anomaly from a safe distance. It also removes poisonous cloud left after sponge explosion. You need to have rank 2 or higher with The Fringe Settlers to unlock anomaly capacitor.

Healing Totem has a miraculous power to speed up health regeneration of allies in a certain radius. However, the totem can be easily destroyed by weapon fire or a grenade. To equip Healing Totem, you have to reach rank 8 with The Fringe Settlers.

Ammo Box allows your allies to replenish ammunition and supplies. But keep in mind that ammo count is limited, and the box withstands only so much damage before it's destroyed. To equip Ammo Box you need to reach level 8 in Scavengers faction.

In Survarium Update 0.41 all characters will receive an additional slot for tactical supplies. These include all the items mentioned above plus smoke grenades, traps and antitoxins.

New Equipment

Faction traders receive a new weapon and several pieces of equipment. Scavengers get their hands on OTs-3 SVU, a semi-automatic sniper rifle a with bullpup configuration. It's available on rank 8 with the faction. The rifle is well suited for middle distance battles and, thanks to its high rate of fire, will be good even in higher level battles.

Moreover, we are adding Biker Pants (Black Market, level 4), Saboteur Helmet (Scavengers, level 5), Stalker Helmet (The Fringe Settlers, level 6), and Sentry Helmet (Black Market, level 7).

Changes to Equipment Parameters

In Survarium Update 0.41 we are making two important changes to improve the effectiveness of high level armor. The first one deals with the stats like recoil decrease on gloves, movement speed on boots and so on. Maximum and minimum values of these parameters will be greater for equipment of a higher level.

We are also changing the bleeding formula to this: the more weapon armor-piercing exceeds equipment armor , the higher the chance to cause a bleeding effect on a character hit. Moreover, one can cause bleeding by lowering the health of a body part below a certain threshold. This change aims to increase the value of armor on higher equipment levels.

The Second Stage of the New Renderer Testing

With the PTS launch we are beginning the second stage of testing the new renderer (for low-end PCs). We have found several critical issues during the first stage, and had to fix those. At this time we have been able to fix the main issues found during the first stage of testing. Specifically:

    Fixed critical issues when loading locations.
    Added texture streaming.
    Improved objects culling (before this change the new renderer's performance was lower than expected).
    Fixed weapon flickering.

We are going to increase the number of supertesters in the near future to test the new renderer on as many hardware configurations as possible. We will publish the list of newly added supertesters when the PTS starts. You can sign up to participate in renderer testing in Preferences tab of your profile by checking the box "Participate in closed testing of the upcoming updates" and pressing "Submit".

Survarium 0.40 Highlights

New User Interface

In Survarium 0.40 we have reworked the lobby interface to increase its usability and make it more user-friendly, visually attractive and up-to-date. We understand that you will need some time to get used to the changes. Hopefully you’ll appreciate the usability and interactivity of the new UI. In our nearest plans is also updating the battle interface and adding new functionality.

Weapon Modules

Now you can modify the weapons by installing different modules! The number of available modules for each weapon depends on its type and tier. To unlock the module you have to perform a certain number of kills from the weapon. Modules change both the characteristics of the wepon and its visuals. Say, laser sight decreases the dispersion when firing from the hip. Vertical grip decreases the recoil, and angled grip decreases the penalty to recoil while moving. Find the complete list of modules below!

Changes in the Economy

We believe it is wrong to penalize you for playing actively and using consumables so we have decided not to take into account the number of used cartridges and supplies when calculating the cost of playing in a battle. Ammo and supplies still have a price of usage which will be added to the total cost of participation in battle. You will see this cost on the equipment screen.

Voiced Quick Commands and New Music

We have added English voice overs for all quick commands in the game. Now it will be easier for you to communicate with the teammates in the heat of battle. Moreover, there’s now unique music in Survarium lobby and on load screens of each level. To cap it all, special music added before the round ending, as well as at victory and loss!

Gameplay

    Added a mission to collect Artifacts. To complete the task you need to collect 3/5/7 artifacts in a battle. An Artifact is deemed collected if you have at least one artifact slot available. Anomaly destruction is not counted.
    Collecting artifacts during battle no longer awards points.
    Oxygen tanks now activate automatically when entering the anomalous zone and deactivate when leaving.
    Anomaly damage protection added for characters that played less than 10 battles.
    Headshot damage multiplier increased from 2 to 2.5.
    Aiming speed now depends on the weapon’s weight and type.
    Increased the amplitude and decreased the speed of sight sway.
    Increased sight sway speed when the character is walking.
    Increased base dispersion when shooting.
    Added dispersion increase mechanics while shooting in long bursts. The speed of dispersion increase depends on the weapon.
    Decreased recoil when shooting from the hip.
    Horizontal recoil of all weapons decreased by 33%.

Weapons and Equipment

    Gear defects system is deactivated.
    You can no longer find items with defects on the aftermatch search screen.
    "Reliability" modifier removed. All reliability modifiers on your equipment will automatically be replaced with other ones.
    You can no longer take two types of ammo for one gun into battle.
    The stopping power of all weapons has been reduced.
    The character can be slowed by no more than 60% (character speed cannot be lower than 40%).
    Maximum value of "Effective distance" modifier decreased to 15% (down from 25%), modifier increment decreased to 3% (down from 5%).
    Maximum value of "Reload Speed" modifier decreased to 10% (down from 15%), modifier increment decreased to 2% (down from 3%).
    Increased effective distance of all pistols and SMGs.
    Decreased damage drop with the distance for all SMGs.
    RGO blast radius increased to 8 meters (from 6 meters).
    Minimum damage of sniper rifles decreased from 80% to 70%.
    Increased the effective distance of 9A-91, OTs-14, SR-3M, AS VAL.
    The level of the starting weapons increased from 0 to 1.
    Starting weapons can no longer be disassembled into details.

Weapon Modules

    By killing opponents you will now unlock modules which can be then installed on your weapons.
    Each module improves certain weapon characteristics, sometimes lowering other parameters. Please find the complete list of module types below.
    Modules for each weapon are unlocked separately.
    The number of kills required to unlock each module depends on the tier of the weapon.
    Modules for weapons received during in-game events unlock separately from their standard version counterparts.
    All premium weapons are provided with all modules unlocked.
    Your premium weapons will receive all their modules automatically.
    Each weapon can have no more than 3 modules installed at a time.
    Some lower tier weapons have only two modules available.

Types of Modules

    Muzzle Devices

      Flash Hider: reduces muzzle flashes.
      Vertical (or horizontal) muzzle breaks: decrease the vertical (or horizontal) recoil by 5%.
      Silencer: reduces the shot loudness, decreases the effective range by 20%.
      Duckbill: decreases the vertical dispersion of buckshot.
      Choke: decreases the dispersion of buckshot.
      Heavy barrel: reduces the dispersion by 20%.
      Long barrel: increases the effective range by 20%.

    Grips and Laser Sights

      Laser sight: reduces the dispersion when firing from the hip by 10%.
      Vertical grip: reduces recoil by 5%.
      Angled grip: reduces dispersion while moving by 10%.
      Potato grip: reduces sight sway by 15%.

    Sights

      Collimator sight.
      х2 magnification scope.
      х3 magnification scope.
      х4 magnification scope.
      х6 magnification scope.
      х8 magnification scope.
      Alternate х3/х6 magnification scope.
      Alternate х4/х8 magnification scope.

    Stocks (only for AS VAL, VSS instead of muzzle devices)

      Ergonomic stock: reduces recoil by 5%.
      Sniper stock: reduces the aiming time by 20%.

Decals and Camouflages

    Standard (non-premium) decals and camouflages cannot be purchased in the shop or received after the match. They can be received for achievements only.
    All the decals and camouflages are now available in one copy only, but can be applied to any number of equipment.
    The list of your decals and camouflages is available in the Workshop.
    Decals and camouflages now increase experience and reputation gain. Bonuses of the same decal/camouflage don't stack.
    You will automatically receive the decals and camouflages you had before the update, even if you don’t have the appropriate achievements yet.
    If you had several copies of the same decal or camouflage, only one will remain. The rest will be removed and you will get their full price.

Special Items and Boosters

    Special items now function in the same way as boosters.
    The slot for special items has been removed.
    The cost of every special item is now 500 silver.
    Special items last one battle.
    +50% experience, silver and reputation boosters now last 5 battles.
    Cost of every +50% booster is now 20 gold.
    You can still find special items and boosters after a battle.
    Special items and boosters have their own interface window (in the right corner of the main lobby screen).
    You will still have all the special items and boosters you had before the update.

Supplies

    Supplies (medkits, grenades, traps, mines) are no longer stored in the inventory.
    Supplies are now free of charge.
    When clicking on the supply slot you will see what can be placed in that slot.
    For the locked items you can see their unlock conditions.
    When selecting an item it automatically fills the slot to its maximum capacity (the quantity can be decreased to reduce the overall weight).
    Items can no longer be found after a match.
    "Motherworth" now reduces the sight sway by 15% (used to be 20%).
    All your supplies will automatically be sold for their purchase price.

Calculation of the Battle Costs

    The total cost of ammo now does not depend on the number of clips taken into battle.
    The cost of ammo is included in the cost of weapons.
    Now your equipment does not have wrecks, but there is a repair cost after the battle. This cost is fixed.
    The modifiers no longer influence the equipment repairs cost.
    Each equipment profile has its own cost, depending on the items it has.
    The total cost of battle is calculated proportionally to the time you used each of the profiles.
    When you don’t have enough silver to repair an expensive profile, you will be notified it’s impossible to start a match. The game will suggest to switch off the expensive profiles.

Character Skills

    Reloading: increment per skill level reduced to 5% (down from 10%).
    Steady breath: increment per skill level increased to 3% (up from 2%).
    Accuracy: increment per skill level reduced to 2% (down from 3%).

User Interface

    Quick commands in battle are now selected in radial menu (accessed by pressing middle mouse button/wheel by default).
    In-game lobby interface has been completely redesigned.
    Icons of all items, skills, tasks and modifiers have been redesigned.
    The articles in-game encyclopedia have been updated; old images replaced.
    Now each item in the workshop has a list of the available modifiers with their range of possible values.
    The friend list now indicates for how long the player has been in battle.
    Survarium launcher has been redesigned to correspond to the new in-game UI.
    The design of the game logo has been updated.
    Added a message when there's not enough gold to purchase a stash map while searching for loot after a match.
    Registration and login via Facebook, Google+ and VKontakte is implemented. You can link your Survarium account to your account or accounts in any of those social networks and use them to login into the game and the website.
    Added support for several simultaneous in-game events.
    Changed the colors of modified items. One modifier – green color, two modifiers – blue color. Used to be vice versa.

Visuals and Animation

    You can now try on the equipment on your character before purchasing it.
    Added a new login screen.
    Created a new lobby scene.
    Added new animations for weapons with modules.
    Added simplified models (LOD) for all the equipment to improve the game perfomance.

Sound and Music

    All quick commands now have voice overs in English, Russian and Ukrainian languages. For game localizations in other languages English voiceovers are used.
    Locations loading screens now each have unique music.
    Added unique music for in-game lobby.
    Added music to indicate the match about to end.
    Added victory/loss music.

Other Changes

    End-User License Agreement has been moved to the website.
    Christmas sweater and pants were disabled.
    All the crates with awards for leagues will be automatically opened upon your first login into the game. You will receive the contents of the crates.
    Crates with items have been removed from the game.
    Leagues and clan battles have been deactivated.
    New game tutorial added.
    The first game session for newcomers has been made easier.

Bug Fixes

    Fixed an authentication issue when navigating to the web shop from the game client.
    Fixed various mistakes in the game localizations.
    Fixed incorrect sounds of steps when sounds were played with a delay or not played at all.
    Fixed the achievements that were previously impossible to get.
    Incorrect faction tiers for several premium items fixed.
    Passable wall on London location has now been fixed.
    Fixed an invisible wall in the central building in London.
    Passable wall on Chemical Plant location has now been fixed.
    Hospital roof on Vostok Radar Station location has been fixed.

Watch Heroes of the Day in Survarium - Episode #2!

Official English Vostok Games YouTube channel has just been updated with the second Survarium Heroes of the Day video. The video highlights the most memorable and spectacular moments of the game. The series is all about you and made for you: we want to showcase the way you play Survarium and how you tackle in-game situations.

In today’s video the following nominations are featured: Save Your Bullets, Killstreak, Storm, The Hand That Kills and Until the Last Breath.

Survarium Update 0.40a5 is on the PTS

The Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.40a5 is online! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with version 0.34. Please note that the PTS will only be available during work hours on weekdays. Also temporary shutdowns are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

The changes are relative to the previous version Survarium 0.40a3 on the PTS (0.40a4 was a technical update).

Attention, supertesters! You can now enable new Survarium renderer in the game settings. Please do so, play the game and leave your feedback on the renderer in the Supertesters forum.

Survarium 0.40a5 PTS Change Log

Gameplay

    Increased dispersion when shooting while moving.
    Decreased sight sway when aiming right after sprinting.
    Added protection from spamming voice commands.

Weapons and Weapon Modules

    The number of kills to unlock modules decreased for all weapons.
    The cost of unlocking modules with gold decreased for all weapons.
    The level of the starting weapons increased from 0 to 1.
    Increased effective distance of all pistols and SMGs.

Survarium 0.40a3 PTS Change Log

Gameplay

    Headshot damage multiplier increased from 2 to 2.5.
    Maximum dispersion when firing from the hip decreased to 15 degrees.
    Dispersion of sniper rifles when firing from the hip increased by 25%.
    Increased sight sway speed when the character is walking.
    Barrett M82: damage reduced to 140, distance reduced to 150.
    Minimum damage of sniper rifles decreased from 80% to 70%.

Weapon Modules

    The number of kills to unlock modules increased for all weapons.
    The cost of unlocking modules with gold increased for all weapons.
    Laser designators and collimators now unlock later for all weapons except the low-level ones.

Survarium 0.40a1 PTS Change Log

Gameplay

    Increased the base dispersion of all weapons when shooting from the hip.
    Decreased the recoil of all weapons when shooting from the hip.
    Fixed an incorrect calculation of dispersion on the move.
    Increased the amplitude and decreased the speed of sight sway.
    Added dispersion increased mechanics while shooting in long bursts. The speed of dispersion increase depends on the weapon.

Check Out Survarium Update 0.40 on the PTS!

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.40 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.34. Please note that the PTS will only be available during work hours on weekdays. Also temporary shutdowns are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered in Survarium no later than February 11. The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system.

All testers will receive a million silver and ten thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of February 11 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Read the update notes of Survarium 0.40 below. Please note that those are not final. The public server will receive version improved based on the results of the testing! See you on the PTS!

Survarium 0.40 Highlights

New User Interface

In Survarium 0.40 we have reworked the lobby interface to increase its usability and make it more user-friendly, visually attractive and up-to-date. We understand that you will need some time to get used to the changes. Hopefully you’ll appreciate the usability and interactivity of the new UI. In our nearest plans is also updating the battle interface and adding new functionality.

Weapon Modules

Now you can modify the weapons by installing different modules! The number of available modules for each weapon depends on its type and tier. To unlock the module you have to perform a certain number of kills from the weapon. Modules change both the characteristics of the wepon and its visuals. Say, laser sight decreases the dispersion when firing from the hip. Vertical grip decreases the recoil, and angled grip decreases the penalty to recoil while moving. Find the complete list of modules below!

Changes in the Economy

We believe it is wrong to penalize you for playing actively and using consumables so we have decided not to take into account the number of used cartridges and supplies when calculating the cost of playing in a battle. Ammo and supplies still have a price of usage which will be added to the total cost of participation in battle. You will see this cost on the equipment screen.

Voiced Quick Commands and New Music

We have added English voice overs for all quick commands in the game. Now it will be easier for you to communicate with the teammates in the heat of battle. Moreover, there’s now unique music in Survarium lobby and on load screens of each level. To cap it all, special music added before the round ending, as well as at victory and loss!

Version for low-end PCs (New Renderer)

The new renderer was developed so the game runs well on older PCs and laptops. Our goal was to achieve 30 frames per second on Intel HD Graphics 4000. Thus, you will get a better framerate on the newer videocards. This also means that you will get 60 fps on the majority of the gaming PCs . Alas, to improve the performance we had to sacrifice the visual quality. However, the difference between the old and new renderers won’t be drastic.

Important! Right after the PTS start the new renderer won’t be available since we need to test the game stability with the old renderer. In a few days supertesters will be able to switch to the new renderer. As the time goes, we will choose more to receive the access to the new renderer. This will allow us to test it on the maximum number of different hardware configurations.

Gameplay

    Added a mission to collect Artifacts. To complete the task you need to collect 3/5/7 artifacts in a battle. An Artifact is deemed collected if you have at least one artifact slot available. Anomaly destruction is not counted.
    Collecting artifacts during battle no longer awards points.
    Oxygen tanks now activate automatically when entering the anomalous zone and deactivate when leaving.
    Anomaly damage protection added for characters that played less than 10 battles.

Weapons and Equipment

    RGO blast radius increased to 8 meters (from 6 meters).
    Gear defects system is deactivated.
    You can no longer find items with defects on the aftermatch search screen.
    "Reliability" modifier removed. All the reliability modifiers on your equipment will automatically be replaced with other ones.
    You can no longer take two types of ammo for one gun into battle.
    The stopping power of all weapons has been reduced.
    The character can be slowed by no more than 60% (character speed cannot be lower than 40%).
    Recoil when firing has been increased by 20-30% for all weapons.
    The Reloading Speed modifier increment has been reduced to 2% (used to be 3%), the max value reduced to 10% (used to be 15%).
    Aiming speed now depends on the weapon’s weight and type.

Weapon Modules

    You will now unlock the weapons modules by killing opponents.
    The unlocked modules can be installed on your weapons.
    Each module improves certain weapon characteristics, sometimes lowering other parameters. Find the complete list of module types below.
    Modules for each weapon have to be unlocked separately.
    The number of kills required to unlock each module depends on the tier of your gun.
    Modules for weapons received during in-game events unlock independently of their standard version counterparts.
    All premium weapons are provided with all modules unlocked.
    Your premium weapons will receive all the modules automatically.
    Each weapon can have no more than 3 modules installed at a time.
    Some lower tier weapons have only two modules available.
    The starting weapons have no unlockable modules.

    Fixed an issue when the players could climb up to the roof of Vector Laboratory.
    Fixed respawn points on Rudnya.
    Fixed spots where you could travel beyond the boundaries of Vostok Radar Station.
    Fixed spots where you could travel beyond the boundaries of Tarakanovsky Fort.
    Other geometry fixes done on all the game maps.
    Now the damage inflicted on hands is calculated correctly.
    Fixed a synchronization issue when simultaneously activating onyx and larkspur artifacts.
    The game client no longer crashes when the player receives more than 5 complaints on the killcam screen.

Watch the Heroes of the Day in Survarium Video!

Today we reveal the pilot video of the new Heroes of the Day series. The video highlights the most memorable and spectacular moments of the game. The series is all about you and made for you: we want to showcase the way you play Survarium and how you tackle in-game situations.

Three nominations have been selected for the first video: Teamwork, Killstreak and The Hand that Kills. The list may be expanded in the next videos.

The behind-the-scenes commentary has been provided by Shakenbake (thanks for that Shake!)

Update 0.40 Preview

The public testing of a long-awaited Survarium 0.40 is on its way to the PTS. The development of Survarium 0.40 has taken more than three months and some of its components – more than six months. Therefore, the release of 0.40 will become an important stage in the development of the game. Changes will affect both the technical aspects and gameplay.

You may have learned some details about Survarium 0.40 in the Developers' Diary No.10. Today we offer you to learn more about the key features of the update.

New User Interface

One of the most noticeable changes will be the new user interface (UI). While developing it we set several goals. Here they are.

    The new interface should be clear and visually appealing.
    It should simplify the overall perception of the game.
    It should properly inform the player about the influence of certain aspects on the gameplay.
    It should take into account all changes in the game mechanics and allow you to quickly and easily perform the most common actions.

During the development we faced with the fact that some of the game mechanics are impossible to be implemented in a way that is consistent with our goals. It is especially true when changing character’s equipment before a match. So we decided to change the following.

    Now you cannot equip several types of ammunition to a single weapon at once.
    Decals and camos are not items anymore, and now you can earn them for certain achievements. Unlocked decals and camos can be applied to any number of items.
    Boosters do not occupy a slot for supplies and, when activated, last for a certain number of battles.

Clearly, the difference between the old and the new interface is huge. And you'll need some time to get used to it. But we hope that you will appreciate convenience and interactivity of the new interface.

Unfortunately, we did not have enough time on our hands to implement all the ideas. In particular, in the near future we plan to add support for equipment sets. This will allow you to save the equipment of your character and then load it to any of the profiles.

Weapon Modules

The second important addition is weapon modules. The number of available modules depends on the type and level of a weapon. To unlock a module you need to make a certain number of kills with the weapon you’re leveling up. The higher the level of a weapon, the greater the impact the module may have on your play style. And the more kills you need to unlock it.

You will be able to install different modules in three categories on each weapon. For example, on Kalashnikov assault rifles you can install scopes, muzzle devices and additional modules which include laser target designators and tactical grips. You cannot install two modules from one category simultaneously. Please note that you also cannot install modules on the starting weapons (PPSh, TT-33, Mosin rifle, Winchester Model 1894).

Modules affect both the appearance of a weapon and its characteristics. So, installing a laser pointer improves accuracy when firing from the hip. Tactical grip reduces recoil, and angled grip reduces penalty to accuracy when moving.

Naturally, weapon modules will have a significant impact on the game balance and so some changes should be made in the game mechanics. One of such mechanics is recoil. Most of the weapons allow you to install scopes with different magnification. For example, you can install 4x scopes on assault rifles.

However, the possibility to install scopes with high and low magnification values on the same weapon leads to some issues with recoil. Experienced players could have met this problem when using VSS and VSK-94. Recoil is either almost non-existent when firing from the hip or becomes completely uncontrollable when firing aiming through the scope.

To avoid this problem we introduced different settings of recoil when firing from the hip and in aiming mode. We also slightly reduced recoil of automatic weapons for the second and subsequent bullets fired. That should make it easier to shoot in short bursts while aiming through the scope.

Version for low-end PCs (New Renderer)

We are paying a lot of attention in version 0.40 to the game performance. The new renderer was originally developed keeping in mind requirements and limitations of older PCs and laptops. Our goal was to achieve a sufficient FPS (frames per second) on Intel HD Graphics 4000 video adapters. We tried to minimize the visual difference between the new and the old render. Playing on low settings shouldn't give any advantage, for example, increase visibility of the enemy.

Performance increase on low-end PCs was achieved by reducing the data about the objects to a minimum: we compressed information about color and normal maps, and added support of minimum palette of materials. Though the type of renderer has not changed – it's still the same deferred shading with dynamic light sources and shadows and physically accurate lighting. All stages of the renderer have been rewritten from scratch, an internal representation of data was also optimized which should improve stability on 32-bit systems with low amounts of RAM.

Unfortunately, a great number of changes and a great variety of PC configurations require a radically new approach to testing. For the large-scale testing we will select a few dozen of players with different PC configurations and will give them access to a special version of the game which allows playing with the new renderer. Based on the results of this test we will make a decision whether to include the new renderer in the future update or not. Sign up to participate in renderer testing in Preferences tab of your profile by checking the box "Participate in closed testing of the upcoming updates" and pressing "Submit".

We will continue development of a new renderer, adding new features which will work only on high quality graphics settings.

Watch the video comparing both renders on a couple of PC configurations. One has Intel HD4000 videocard, the other has GeForce 8800 GTS (corresponds to the current minimum system requirements of Survarium). Thus, the new renderer will not only increase the perfomance on low end PCs, but will further decrease minimum system requirements (still allowing to play with at least 30 frames per second). We've made this video using one of the replays in Survarium 0.34a. You can download the replay and check how well your PC handles it. And you will get more fps with the new renderer!

Apply for the new renderer test on the PTS in your profile settings: check "Participate in closed testing of the upcoming updates", press "Submit".



Changes in the Economics System

We are also introducing significant changes to the game’s economics system. We noticed that lots of players complain about lack of silver income on different levels of equipment. But according to our calculations, on average players should still earn more silver than they lose even at the highest levels of equipment.

Analysis of the situation showed that the net income of silver per battle is in line with our expectations but many players do actually lose in-game money. The difference between players that gain or lose in-game money lies not so much in their playing skills but in how often they use consumables. The more consumables you use, the higher the bill you receive after a match.

We believe it is wrong to penalize you for playing actively and using consumables so we have decided not to take into account the number of used cartridges and supplies when calculating the cost of playing in a battle. Ammo and supplies still have a price of usage which will be added to the total cost of participation in battle.
