ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

Announcing the ArcheAge Public Test Server

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

Greetings Adventurers!

Today we are thrilled to be able to announce the opening of our new Public Test Server!

We look forward to your help in previewing the new updates, and letting us know of any issues that you find and what you think of the content! We’ll be keeping a close eye on the feedback from PTS both for functionality and subjective feedback.

While you’re on PTS, we ask that you take the time to poke around, try out new things, try dungeons and raids, check out new items from the merchants and the Marketplace, and let us know what you think on the PTS forums!

Our first update on PTS is live now – and it includes the new Red Dragon world boss as well as the Sea of Drowned Love dungeon. Get your friends together and give it a try! You’ll be able to create a new character and get it leveled up to 50 so you have characters of the appropriate level to test with. You can find out more details about the Red Dragon and the Sea of Drowned Love in the patch notes.

Also on the Public Test Server are the items for the Winter Maiden Festival events! All of the events won’t be running, but you can see the new items in the Marketplace as well as get a chance to earn your own holiday tree – complete with decorations from hunting. We’ll have more details on the in-game events coming soon.

Here’s a few key things that will help you get started:

You can find the Public Test server by selecting “PTS ” from the region select drop down on the top right of your Glyph screen for ArcheAge. This is the same place where you select between Europe and North America.
PTS is a new install of ArcheAge. Visit our PTS FAQ forum thread for details on how to get a head start on the download by copying your live installation.
Your credits and items on PTS are JUST for PTS – you can spend all your PTS credits without affecting your live credits at all!
PTS is a test server – that means that we may bring it down with little or no notice when we need to update something. And please do not expect it to be available all the time – It will only be up when there’s something to test.
You will be able to level a character up to 50 (with testing gear) by saying “Level me up Fluffy” in the say channel in chat. Fluffy the Automated Testing Bot is here to help you level up if you like. You don’t have to use the testing bot’s level up buff if you don’t want to – in fact we hope that some of you will keep playing through the lower levels to help us test out that experience as well!

For more details on PTS, please rcheagegame.com/showthread.php?140932-ArcheAge-Public-Test-Server-FAQ" target="_blank">FAQ. This forum thread has answers to your common questions as well as is the place for you to ask new ones.

We look forward to seeing you on PTS and hearing what you think of ArcheAge’s new content on the PTS forums!

ArcheAge Updating to Version 1.2 Build 4.16

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

Adventurers,

ArcheAge is updating to Version 1.2 Build 4.16!

The Red Dragon

What if the legend was true? Tales of true dragons are ancient; the great and terrifying beasts so far extinct that their very existence could be questioned. The petrified bones in Karkasse Ridgelands were the only hint that they once ravaged the lands there.

Were, until the recent resurgence of the Wyrmkin in Karkasse. Minions of the Red Dragon, their presence suggest that not all dragons are gone from Erenor, that the Red Dragon still lurks somewhere, ancient and crazed.

Those who seek the nightmares of history know to turn to the Evenbards, the keepers of legends that are occasionally found spinning tales in cities during the evenings. If you’re going to fight a dragon, it’s best you come prepared.

Dahuta’s Fate: The Sea of Drowned Love

The vengeful and jealous sea goddess known as Dahuta once had a mortal form. As the elf Aranzebia, she traveled with the Twelve and discovered the birthplace of the world, the secret source of magic that granted fearsome power to the expedition and ultimately led to the destruction of Auroria. The powers granted to her twisted her already selfish nature into that of a dangerous and unpredictable deity.

The rising popularity of the Dahuta cult across Nuia has only strengthened the goddess, secure in her underwater stronghold beneath the Arcadian Sea. As Nuians and Haranyans both attempt to reclaim Auroria, the ocean routes grow more traveled, and once again mortals intrude upon Dahuta’s realm.

She does not turn a blind eye to these intrusions. Greedy for power, she must be prevented from gaining further strength and returning to her former glory.

Winter Maiden Festival

The time of the Winter Maiden’s Festival approaches, in honor of Kyprosa, Lady of the Forest, Gatekeeper of the Garden. Celebratory events are prepared throughout Erenor, including:

    Decoration Reclamation

The Winter Maiden Messenger needs your help recovering stolen decorations! She can be found in the major cities and will give you the quest “Gifts for the Winter Maiden”.

Collect eight Festival Tree Decorations which can be found on defeated enemies and bring them to the Winter Maiden Messenger.
Completing the quest gives you a Winter Maiden Festival Tree that you can place and decorate with additional Festival Tree Decoration Packs that can be found on defeated enemies.
Once a tree is fully decorated with four Festival Tree Decoration Packs it will turn into a Generous Winter Maiden Festival Tree after an hour.
Interact with the Generous Winter Maiden Festival Tree to collect a Winter Maiden’s Gift Box which can be opened every hour for an assortment of gifts, like unique wands bearing special animation actions!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Defeated enemies may contain Frosty Packed Snow or Snowcone Packed Snow, which can be placed to begin building either a Frosty Snowman or Snowcone Snowman.

Finish your Snowman masterpiece by using two more Snows of the matching type.
After an hour, a fully built Snowman will turn into a Snowman Anima which can be harvested for a Snowman Plushie Box, containing one of seven different Snowman Plushie house decor items!

    Stocking Stuffers

A new icon will appear in the bottom left of the UI along with a timer. When the icon lights up, you’ll be able to receive a Flame Lunabox by clicking it.
Collect twenty Flame Prize Tokens from the Flame Lunaboxes to create a Winter Maiden Stocking.
Look inside the Stocking for a set of festively-themed headwear!

General

Property placement now has a five-second delay between attempts in order to disrupt rapid spam-placement attempt tools. Please adjust your strategy for property grabs accordingly!
Adjusted the protection buff on Arena defense towers to prevent these objects from being unintentionally destroyable early in the match.
Teleport Book entries for houses that have been destroyed or had their owner changed since the location was recorded will no longer be a possible destination for teleportation.

Items

The Mirage Lilyut Horse no longer comes standard* with ice skates. The gliding movement after stopping these mounts has been fixed. (*Ice skates are also not an available add-on option. Sorry!)
The Comet Speedster is now available for purchase on Mirage Isle for 800 Gilda Stars. The Timber Coupe remains unavailable for now due to XLGAMES wishing to tune its off-road capabilities.
The Wrapped Santiago’s Fishing Rod is now a tradable item.
Increased the re-use time on Old Jars to 60 seconds.

Interface

Changed the design of the casting bar to allow more room for text in various languages.
Removed the display of Patron Time duration from the character selection screen and initial login, as this display often did not match the actual time remaining on your account. Your current Patron Time duration can be found on the Glyph website.
Added a space between the “To Playername:” and the sent text when sending a whisper to another character.
Removed an unneeded space between the number and the minute/hour designator on buff icons to save space.
Updated the blocked word filter with more words. A known issue is that some words that contain letters of other words are being blocked unintentionally with the filter on.

Localization

French/German: Updated the housing info UI to replace Korean with French or German as appropriate.
French: Fixed one of the Freedich Isle maps so it no longer has Korean text.
French: Fixed the House Sale UI button so the text aligns properly.

This update will be available for download via Glyph during the announced EU and NA server outages. Please visit our Server Status forum for details.

Armez-vous contre le Dragon rouge !

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

ArcheAge Downtime Compensation – Details and Plans

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

Hi, everyone – With all ArcheAge servers being back up and the world of Erenor fully accessible as of late Tuesday night, we want to take a moment to say thanks for your patience and let you know where we are on compensation.

We never take your loyalty for granted and any time we don’t meet the high standards we set for ourselves, it’s important to us to make it up to you as generously as possible.

We’re currently applying compensation packs to everyone’s account. This does take a while, and it’ll be running through the rest of today.

If you’ve ever been a Patron as of the time of the servers returning, you’ll be gaining the ability to claim a Patron pack on the Glyph account website. That Patron pack contains:

5 Bonus Days of Patron Time
15 Superior Worker’s Compensation Potions (500 LP each)
30 Loyalty Tokens to use at the Loyalty Store on the rewards of your choice
3 Greedy Goblin Gummies (+10% Loot Drop Rate)
    3 Frankenflavor Jawbreakers (+10% XP)
3 Marshmallow Sugar Pumpkins (+3% Move Speed)

For those who have not been a patron, the standard compensation pack contains:

10 Superior Worker’s Compensation Potions (500 LP each)
15 Loyalty Tokens to use at the Loyalty Store on the rewards of your choice
3 Greedy Goblin Gummies (+10% Loot Drop Rate)
    3 Frankenflavor Jawbreakers (+10% XP)
3 Marshmallow Sugar Pumpkins (+3% Move Speed)

Once all of the packs are applied to everyone’s accounts, we’ll be following up with an email letting you know that you can head over to the Glyph account web pages to claim the pack and choose which character to assign it to.

(We’ll also be broadcasting in game as soon as they’re all applied, and posting instructions here so you don’t have to wait for that mail to land to get your packs!)

Thank you again so much for your patience, and we’ll see you soon in ArcheAge!

ArcheAge Server Connectivity Issues

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest Results

Adventurers,

Good news! Out of 21 ArcheAge servers, 16 are now back online and fully operational: connectivity, performance and lag issues you might have recently experienced on these servers are now fixed, capacity has been increased to reduce queues and life in Erenor is back to normal. Thanks a lot to all of you for your patience. We’re also glad to announce that we have a target ETA for the two North American and three European servers that require additional work before they’re brought online. The Operations Team will be working through the night to get Nui, Nebe, Janudar, Inoch, and Calleil live as quickly as possible. We’re aiming for the servers to be live by tomorrow morning but they may be available as early as late tonight (Pacific time). We’ll keep updating this rough ETA on the forums as work progresses.

Now, although we are happy to share this news with you, we want to also convey our apologies for the server connectivity issues we’ve been experiencing since yesterday. Like you, the Trion Worlds staff were eager to spend Sunday eating (too much) leftover turkey, playing ArcheAge, and watching siege livestreams. We hope you know how hard the team worked — and is still working — to make interruptions of service as short as possible. Members of our Network and Operations Teams have been working through the last two nights and are now close to determining the cause of the problems we ran into and are continuing to work around the clock to ensure that you get the best ArcheAge experience possible. With XLGAMES’ help, we’re also determining the best ways to resolve the secondary issues the latency caused such as excess item redemption or overlapping property construction.

We’ve mentioned that we will be compensating the ArcheAge community for their patience and are currently finalizing the details which we’ll share once all of the servers resume normal service. In the meantime, keep an eye on Twitter, Facebook and the ArcheAge forums to get the latest updates.

Treasures from the latest Daru supply ship have been added to the Marketplace! Wish your four-slot Farm Wagon had a little more cargo capacity? Increase it to six slots with the Farm Wagon Upgrade Ticket. The upgrade to Farm Hauler also boosts its speed by 1m/s.

Also, the Mirrorshine and Classic Racing Kits have replaced the Flashy Racing Kit, offering two other costume color variants: silver and brown. The scrolls are timed items and must be used by a Guild Leader to declare siege before they expire. To declare a siege, right-click on a Siege Scroll (where you’d like the siege to start) in its specified zone. Once placed 250m away or further from the opposition’s Archeum Lodestone, it becomes the respawn point for the attackers during the ensuing siege.

Storming the Castle

To claim victory, Attackers must destroy the Defenders’ Archeum Lodestone and then convert the destroyed Lodestone to their own before the siege timer expires.

The Defenders will be victorious if they can prevent their Archeum Lodestone from being converted. Purifying Archeum is not required to convert the Archeum Lodestone during a siege.
Defensive fortifications such as castle walls and gates reduce the amount of damage the Archeum Lodestone receives.

Reporting for Duty

Both the Attackers’ respawn point and the Archeum Lodestone have a siege perimeter that only designated participants can enter (everyone else will be removed).

At the start of a siege, Defenders within the castle limits stay where they are, and those located outside the castle limits (but within the Siege perimeter) are transported to the Defender respawn location.
All attackers are transported to the Attacker’s respawn location.

Guild Leaders can designate which ranks can participate by using the “Siege Participation Open” checkbox in the Permissions tab of the Guild menu. Once a Siege begins, the game will select from the eligible participants for Attackers and Defenders up to the allotted limits within the siege perimeter based upon the following priority and criteria:

    1. Guild Leader and Commanders
    2. Character Power – Based on level, stats, attack power, and defense

Those who do not qualify for the initial selection are transported out of the siege perimeter when it begins.

Attackers begin with a full-size army of 70 participants, while Defenders can only field 50 members for the first 20 minutes. Guilds that own two zones begin with 45 members, and those that own three or four zones begin with 40 members. After twenty minutes, additional Defenders will be able to join the siege to bring the total number up to 70.

Best of luck to all attackers and defenders!

ArcheAge Version 1.2 Build 4.15 - Patch Notes

Auroria

The Auroria siege schedule has been changed to start sooner!
Sieges tokens will be listed on the Auction House every three weeks at 2:30 PM PST / 10:30 PM GMT followed by the siege declaration 48 hours later when the auction ends. Sieges themselves will begin four days after the siege token is listed on the Auction House at 1:00 PM PST / 9:00 PM GMT with mutual hostile status being set for the attacking and defending guilds 30 minutes prior to the siege beginning.
The first siege tokens for Heedmar and Nuimari will be going up on the Auction House next Wednesday, November 19 at 2:30 PM PST / 10:30 PM GMT with the siege starting on Sunday, November 23 at 1:00 PM PST / 9:00 PM GMT.
The first siege tokens for Marcala and Calmlands will be going up on the Auction House on Wednesday, November 26 at 2:30 PM PST / 10:30 PM GMT with the siege starting on Sunday, November 30 at 1:00 PM PST / 9:00 PM GMT.
While these are currently set as universal times for both NA and EU, we are looking into being able to set the time for each region individually. We'll have an update on this by next Wednesday. That said, we will do everything within our power to ensure that the first Heedmar/Nuimari and Marcala/Calmlands times announced in these patch notes do not change: players can plan their gameplay time based on them.

Interface

The chat filter has been improved to detect more instances and methods of spam. Help this learning filter detect new patterns by using the "report spam" function (available by right-clicking on the offending user's name)!

Misc

HackShield's unwarranted force-disconnections have been curbed by reducing the number of false-positives it generates. Previous false-positive force-disconnections have not resulted in false-positive bans.
New, additional anti-hacking detection has been introduced with this build. As a reminder, examples of hacking include but aren't limited to using illicit third-party software, modifying the game client, or intercepting packets between server and client.

Notes

This update is less than 200 MB and will be available for download via Glyph during the announced EU and NA server outages. Please visit our Server Status forum for details.

Gameplay

Added 14 new recipes for Brilliant Hasla Relics and Eternal Hasla Relics, the second and third Hasla weapon tiers. Crafting these tiers also requires Gilda Dust as a component in addition to Hasla tokens.
Doubled the cost to repair equipment to make dying a little more significant.
The Diamond Shores worldgates will now send you to Calmlands because Diamond Shore is not yet available. Worldgates are a type of portal in some major cities. They cost three Hereafter Stones to use. Existing worldgates have already allowed travel between the two southern continents.
Added Illustrious Storage Chest (80 storage slots) recipe to Regal Carpentry Workbench.
Reduced vendor sell price of Archeum Tree Sapling from 1 gold to 10 copper.

Vehicles

Added designs for the Apex Squall Car, Ezi's Glider, Moonshadow Glider, Red Dragon Glider, and Thunderbolt Glider to Mirage Isle.
Rebalanced the flight properties of Ezi's Glider, Moonshadow Glider, Thunderbolt Glider, Red Dragon Glider, and Feathered Dragon Glider to match the Ultimate Glider. This is prevent any one glider from being the overwhelmingly best option in almost all cases due to combination of flight properties and abilities. These gliders are now differentiated by their unique abilities which have not been changed.
Removed vehicle designs from the Honor Points Vendor and Vocation Badge Vendor for rebalancing the cars before reintroducing the designs. Players who had already purchased these designs will keep them but these cars cannot be crafted until they are reintroduced to the game.
Updated the four-slot Farm Wagon recipe to require the two-slot Farm Cart summoning scroll as a component, making the Farm Cart an upgrade path instead of a separate item.

Interface

Added the ability for players to report spam in chat. Right-click the character name on chat or use "/spam [NAME]" to submit a report to a Game Master.
Added a notification to the trade interface when a locked trade changes to an unlocked trade.
Added a three-second delay before the trade interface's accept button is available when the lock status is changed on either side.
Removed a duplicate recipe on the Regal Carpentry Workbench.
Fixed a map issue where two zoom levels were reversed in some areas.

Notes

This update is about 150 MB and will be available for download via Glyph during the announced EU and NA server outages. Please visit our Server Status forum for details.

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest

With our first in-game holiday comes our fourth ArcheAge competition: a screenshot contest! Ten skilled winners will each receive an ArcheAge Archeum Starter Pack.

ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest

Capture a screenshot from ArcheAge based on one of the two categories below for a chance to win an Archeum Starter Pack.

Instructions

Take a single ArcheAge screenshot that either A) captures the essence of Hallowtide using your character and/or the game’s environments or B) showcases your Hallowtide-themed house or farm.
For the “Hallowtide Environment” Category: Screenshots where the main feature is another player’s house or farm are not permitted (if they’re off in the background and clearly not the focus, it’s okay).
For the “Hallowtide House/Farm” Category: You must personally own the property you’re submitting a screenshot of, demonstrated with a second screenshot that shows both your character name and the property details pane (shown using F key at farm scarecrow or house plaque). Be sure to include this proof of ownership in the same post as your submission!
To take a screenshot in ArcheAge, press F9. To remove the UI (before taking the screenshot), press F12. To activate Screenshot Mode, press CTRL+F12 (which will bring up the image shown below). Screenshots captured this way will appear in the following directory by default: C:\…\Documents\ArcheAge\ScreenShots
The screenshot must be personally taken by you using the in-game screen capture tool and must be submitted in a digital format (ideally JPG).
No image manipulation is permitted. We’re looking for raw screenshots with the UI turned off (see the image below for shortcuts).
Your entry should be “safe for work” and will be disqualified or deleted if it is indecent in nature. As a rule of thumb: if you have to ask, it’s probably not permitted.
Your entry cannot use content that is copyrighted or trademarked, including custom logos.
One entry per person, regardless of category. Submitting more than one entry may disqualify you.
Post your entry as an attachment or linked image on the official ArcheAge forums as a reply to this thread.
Click here for the official ArcheAge Hallowtide Weekend Screenshot Contest rules.

Prizes

Contest entries will be judged for their adherence to the Hallowtide theme and contest guidelines by Trion Worlds’ Producer Victoria “FireCait” Voss, Associate Producer Amanda “Amary” Fry, and Senior Community Relations Manager Evan “Scapes” Berman. The judges will choose five winning contest entries in each category.
The ten cumulative winners will each receive an Archeum Starter Pack.

Duration

This contest starts Friday, October 31 and ends Monday, November 3 at 11:59 PM PDT (GMT-7), at which point we will no longer accept contest entries.
The contest results will be published about a week after the end of the contest.

Good luck and have fun!

Conquête d'Auroria – Prochainement !

Last Chance at Carrot Dash and Bloodclaw Ursun

ArcheAge Launch Update #3 - Two Million, Fast Entry, and a Bright Future of Updates

Hi, everyone! Quick update for you today on the top things that we’ve been up to since our last posting.

A Massive New Age

We’ve discussed the tremendous amount of interest that ArcheAge has gotten in recent weeks and we’re happy to put a number on that for you today. ArcheAge recently hit a very important milestone: there are officially now over two million of you registered with the game! Know that we’re not resting to celebrate, we’re all still here, hard at work seven days a week to help this rapidly-growing world be the best experience it possibly can be.

Servers

As many of you already know, with the addition of the new EU servers a week ago, bringing the total to 21 live servers, we’ve gotten server queuing for our European friends into a much better place with the majority of logins now being either instant or in a handful of minutes. As we did in North America, we’ve temporarily paused character creation on the original servers and we’ve already begun lifting those blocks as the populations have been evening out. We’re keeping an eye out for when the right time will be to remove the rest of the creation blocks, while keeping an optimal entry experience for everyone.

Bots-N-Spam

I’ve gotten a few questions from friends the last couple days: “Hey, did you guys do something about the bots?!” Happy to confirm that yes, we have. As many of you had correctly expected, we were holding back on some of it until we got enough data to act at once. I’m happy to announce we’ve booted out over six figures worth of bad actors from the game and have started up new processes that are aimed at keeping their reentry as difficult as possible. (Yes, that two million number up there does have these folks subtracted from it already.) We’ll continue to tune this over the coming weeks, while ramping it up to catch even more hackers and we’re tremendously grateful for your patience and your reports. Please do keep it up!

On spam, we just got a delivery that will soon help our temporary anti-spam system be able to react a lot faster. It catches some in minutes or less, but not all. We’re working on getting this more reliable version up and ready for you before the weekend. Even though what’s in place right now is an interim solution, we still want it to be able to react as rapidly as possible and we continue putting a lot of effort into making that a reality.

Meanwhile, the permanent answer lies in our smarter, learning anti-spam system. It specializes in outright blocking the kinds of spam frequent in western MMOs before you even see it. This system is in XLGAMES’ hands and they’re integrating it into the game for us right now. We’ll let you know when we get the delivery that includes this system.

And Whats Next?

Stay tuned later tonight to check out the patch notes for this week’s update in which you’ll be able to find out about even more preventative spam measures being put into place as well as gameplay, interface, and Marketplace updates.

There’ve been lots of questions about Auroria lately. We’re working on the best time to release Auroria and all of the gameplay and recipes that come along with that content. Our goal right now is to have it arrive in a handful of weeks and we’ll be keeping you updated as the date solidifies.

At the same time the above has all been going on, we’ve also been here behind the scenes planning out the next year of live updates and holiday events! XLGAMES’ team and ours have been working hard together on some great, new collaborative things that we hope you’ll enjoy. Expect new fun for Halloween, a fall harvest festival, and beyond.

Once again, we’re humbled by all of the interest and ever-grateful for your choice to spend time in ArcheAge!

Last Chance at a Skybound Housewarming Gift!

Adventurers,

Welcome to the second week of ArcheAge! We’ve had a number of developments since launch including new servers, Producer Letters, and even a new game update.

However, right now is your last chance to try for the [Feathered Hope] glider from the in-game Marketplace as the [Limited Edition: Skybound Housewarming Gift] is being true to its name and will be going away at 1:00 PM PDT (GMT-7) tomorrow, September 25 (at which time a 30-minute Marketplace outage will occur). A new limited-time Marketplace chest will be introduced in its place: the [Limited Edition: Clawbound Housewarming Gift]! This new chest will be the same cost and contain the same random selection of consumables and components with one exception. As you can probably guess, the rarest item from this new chest is something other than a glider; it’s the [Seal-Point Sabrefang], a unique battle pet.

You still have time to claim the current Housewarming Gift chest with a chance to contain a [Feathered Hope] glider! Good luck and we’ll see you in ArcheAge!

ArcheAge Version 1.2 Build 4.10 - Patch Notes

Gameplay

Accounts will now be disconnected from the server when AFK at character selection or in character creation.
As previously announced, stats have been removed from in-game costume items, matching the previous change to Marketplace costume items.

Interface

Available character slots (via Character Slot Expansions or deleted characters) will now be recognized prior to logging into a game world.
Players can now connect to a server they have no characters on if they have an available character slot.
Assorted translations have been corrected or updated in English, French, and German. For instance, [Lumber: Mass Production] is now simply [Lumber].
The Revive interface for characters under level 10 no longer has overlapping text.
Improved tooltips on items with socketed lunagems to more clearly show stat effects.

Marketplace

To ensure no portion of your potion is wasted, [Workman's Compensation] labor potions can no longer be consumed when there's insufficient "room" for all 1000 Labor Points on your account. It will now give an error that X Labor Points must be used before using the labor potion.
The [Workman's Compensation] labor potion on the Loyalty Store now has a 12-hour cooldown to match the Marketplace version.

Other

A rare bug that could potentially generate a large number of small temporary files in one's user folder has been fixed.

Notes

This update is about 150 MB and will be available for download via Glyph during the announced EU and NA server outages. Please visit our Server Status forum for details.

ArcheAge Launch Update #2 – More Capacity, Bonuses, and Faster Service

ArcheAge Open Beta

Hello again, all – We wanted to update you on how everything’s looking and share a progress report on where we’ve been since the last update a few days ago. I’m writing this on a Sunday night, as we’ve all been working through the weekend to bring you the best ArcheAge experience possible.

I’ve hopped around a half dozen servers this weekend, both in Europe and North America, and it’s incredible to see so many people having this amount of fun.

Server Capacity

Since our last update, we’ve welcomed three new North American worlds Ezi, Lucius, and Calleil into service. They’ve had an effect on improving queue times, as new folks have been steering themselves to the new ones as expected. The experience isn’t globally perfect yet, and queues do still exist, but the new servers and the patron queuing changes have had a noticeably positive impact overall. We’re seeing a lot more of: “I picked a new server, had a short wait, and no problems.” Progress, but still work ahead.

In Europe, we thank you for your incredible patience, and once again wish that there was an even faster way to get your hardware in place. On the internet, an hour feels like a day, and a day might as well be a week. We get that. Your new server hardware is in customs and is expected to be released to us on Tuesday your time. We have people standing by and ready to move as fast as humanly possible to get things rolled out for you.

We have moved to daily restarts to flush out AFKs clogging the servers making it take too long to get in – and we’ve been being aggressive with manual sweeps and bot / fraud banning as well. Around 10k of those have been banned over the last few days.

We’re aware of the bug that some folks are using to hold a spot indefinitely, and a fix is incoming. If all goes well, we’ll be receiving that in the next day and deploying it as soon as we get it through our QA. We do expect that one to help a lot, as we’ve seen cases at peak where far too much of a given world’s capacity was occupied by idle placeholders. Once that’s in, we’ll be able to more accurately evaluate where we should go with hardware capacity from here.

Patron Bonus Time

If you were a patron as of launch day, last week you were granted a bonus amount of patron time to cover the head start period. In an update we did while the servers were running on Saturday, we expanded that to more time and more people, essentially making Patron time only begin ticking as of yesterday.

Making sure that all patrons have their bonuses has been incredibly important to us, as is making sure we’re as generous as we can be, wherever we can, and things are now working well for the vast majority. There are still a handful of patrons who need touching up, and making sure that they’re taken care of remains the priority for our software teams.

Bonus Founder’s Items

Another thing that we’d like to make sure everyone knows – If you’ve already used up all six of your sets of Founder’s items, and if that’s what’s holding you back from trying out a new server, or if you just want one extra set to put on one of your existing characters, you can go to the account page at http://archeage.trionworlds.com/ and do this yourself!

This option went up last Friday, and you’re welcome to it whether or not you’ve had any issues. Look for the option up top that contains the words Founder’s Pack – Bonus and enjoy with our compliments. Do remember that you can only do this one time!

Even on top of the above bonuses, we are continuing to look into ways to make sure that everyone’s made good for their troubles during this launch.

Customer Service

Our CS capacity has continuously been increasing even in the short time since launch. Chat wait times are about two thirds faster than what they were last week, even though the weekend’s been the busiest time ArcheAge has seen as a whole. We‘re still pushing hard here to make sure even more people are wanting to help, and the next group of folks ready to help starts work first thing Monday morning.

And a Live Service Note

On Sunday, our North American servers did get poked at by a handful of DDOSes. Europe did not. Our network folks have been working with our ISPs on this and other security topics regularly, and were able to compensate and protect your experience quickly.

The game did stay up and full the entire time, both our infrastructure and countermeasures held, and we do sincerely apologize to those of you who got disconnected briefly. This isn’t the kind of thing we want any of you to be impacted by, and we continue to find new protections here as well.

As always, for faster information, the Launch FAQ thread is where you can go for more rapid updates. The team continues to update that as everything progresses.

And with that, I’ll let you get back to ArcheAge! We look forward to even more improvements this week, and will let you know as they happen.

New Server Added - Calleil (NA)

ArcheAge Open Beta

We’ve added a new world to our North American server list: Calleil (NA)! This server will be on the new Auction House cluster 5 (AH5) with Ezi (NA) and Lucius (NA). Calleil (NA) is online and available to play right now: Sunday September 19 at 9:30 AM PDT (GMT-7).

We also have new European servers en route to our Amsterdam data center. We deeply wish they could be out of international customs faster, but we do have them slated to be received Tuesday local time. For more on this, please check out our Launch FAQ! Additionally, the NA servers Naima, Tahyang, Kyrios, Ollo, Salphira, and Aranzeb have been temporarily closed to new character creation while our newer servers populate.

NOTE: If your character slots are full, you will not be able to make a new character on the new servers until you log into one of them and either delete an existing character or purchase an additional character slot. Sorry for needing a workaround! XLGAMES is working to improve available character slot recognition.

New Servers Added - Ezi (NA) and Lucius (NA)

ArcheAge Open Beta

We’ve added two new worlds to our North American server list: Ezi (NA) and Lucius (NA)! These servers were racked (physically installed) and imaged (updated with ArcheAge server software) in our Texas data center all in the past day. Here you can see Ezi (NA) and Lucius (NA) in their new home with Senior Systems Engineer Jonathan Johnson. These two servers will be on the new Auction House cluster 5 (AH5). These new servers are now online and available to play right now: Friday September 19 at 4:15 PM PDT (GMT-7).

We also have new European servers en route to our Amsterdam data center, currently passing through international customs at this very moment. They’re making their way to being live as quickly as possible. For more on this, please check out our Launch FAQ! Additionally, the NA servers Kyrios, Ollo, Salphira, and Aranzeb have been temporarily closed to new character creation.

NOTE: If your character slots are full, you will not be able to make a new character on the new servers until you log into one of them and either delete an existing character or purchase an additional character slot.

ArcheAge Launch Update - Capacities, Communication, and Where to Find Info

ArcheAge Open Beta

Hi everyone, we’d like to thank you all for being a part of this absolutely massive launch of ArcheAge.

We’ve heard from a lot of you that ArcheAge has stirred up excitement for an MMO in a way that many of you haven’t felt in a long time. When people are in and playing, we hear a lot that the game’s the great, exciting experience they were waiting for.

While it’s been great for many, it’s been uneven for others, most notably if you’re stuck waiting. (We know, we wait in the same queues you do.)

Know that we haven’t been, and won’t be, resting until the experience is great for everyone. We’ve been talking to you a lot about this on Twitter and our forums, and we wanted to thank you for your patience — which has been extreme in some cases for sure.

I’d like to talk about what we’re doing to make sure that all of you can have that same kind of experience.

Server capacities and you

In an ideal world, we have all the hardware we need to host the ideal number of servers, in a way that works best for everyone. We’d strike the perfect balance between launch popularity, when everyone wants to be online 100% of the time, and the settled population of more normal play patterns that will naturally come over time.

In reality, we have to plan capacity months ahead of time, based on things like web site signups, numbers of people who play in alphas and betas, how long they play, and so on. There’s a fair amount of science that goes into it, and in general it’s pretty accurate. We then include extra for overflow, just in case we need more.

In this case, so many entirely new people showed up that we opened not just all of our launch hardware on the first day, but the overflow hardware soon after as well. Since Head Start, we’ve expanded both the number of servers and the capacity of all servers steadily. We try to let you know this both on the forums and on Twitter (@ArcheAge]) whenever this occurs.

Inside the business you’ll hear people call this “problems of success,” but make no mistake – since it negatively affects you, we remain obsessively focused on the “problem” part, not the “success” part. We treat these as high priority problems that we need to solve, as rapidly as possible.

Great, thanks. that’s super. what are you doing now?

Right. There are things going on both in and out of game to make things better:

1) Yes, more hardware is on its way to helping you! We’re still aiming to strike the balance between short and long term and we know with certainty that more hardware is needed for both. We’ve heard both the “more servers” and “no more servers” crowds, and are certain we need to take steps toward more. I’m happy to share that the next round of hardware landed with our team in Texas this morning.

While I do wish that we could violate the laws of space and time to transport physical servers instantly, and help both NA and EU simultaneously, because of the way hardware is shipped out, and factors like “customs,” there will be some delay between helping out the two regions. Do note that we’re doing everything we can to make sure that delay is as minimal as possible. (We are aiming for days, not weeks, between.)

We’ll be talking more about the details here over the coming days, in our Launch FAQ thread.

2) Note that we’ve been more aggressively sweeping AFKers, even manually when needed. For example, while we had said during beta that we were tentatively tolerant of AFK mount riding, we’d be keeping an eye out to see if it became a problem. Well, it’s officially a problem when actual players who will be playing can’t get in.

If you’re not actively playing, please do be aware that you might not be there when you get back. Of course, while we do appreciate creative justifications such as “I am merely celebrating the excitement of launch by exercising my steed in a circular pattern for an extended period of time,” those will still earn a quick trip to desktop.

We’re also going to be setting up a more aggressive AFK timer as is suited to an over-popular launch, and ensuring that there are fewer ways to get around it. Again, this is all to create the greatest opportunity to get active human beings into the game.

3) As with any launch where you get massive numbers of new players, we need great people helping out with the typical things that happen as services scale up, which is why I wanted to talk Customer Service. You have wanted to talk with them. You’ve wanted to talk with them a lot. And they really do want to help.

Trion’s CS team has already been expanded pretty massively, with scores of new people coming on board in the weeks leading up to ArcheAge’s launch. There’s a veritable dedicated army of people wanting to help. We’re also happy to announce that we’re ramping that up even more. As with all of our CS in the past, we’re continuing down the path of natively fluent CS reps in each language we service.

4) Communication is critical during launches – We do get that. I’ve personally tweeted more during this launch than I think I have since Twitter existed. We’re going to be redoubling our efforts, most notably on our forums, with even more people pitching in.

We had been trying to focus our updates into specific known locations, but that’s not having the effect that we had hoped. We need to be in more places and threads that you’re already discussing, so you can expect more of that beginning today, and in a more visibly 24/7 fashion than it might have appeared previously. We’ve been continuously working like crazy knocking down the types of launch issues one might expect, but if you don’t see evidence of it, then it’s not as helpful to you. We get that too.

Once again – Thank you all for your patience, and we have constant improvements that will continue to be rolled out. As always, to keep track of the latest details of what’s being worked on, you can find updates in the ongoing Launch FAQ update thread. We look forward to getting even more capacity up for you across the board, being more visible about it, and giving you all the great experience you deserve.

ArcheAge Head Start Known Issues

ArcheAge Open Beta

Greetings Founders!

We’ve determined two known issues with Head Start. Some Founders haven’t been granted their Patron status, placing them in the general queue instead of the priority queue and having gameplay impacts as well. Additionally, some players have also not received their Founder’s Pack perks.

The whole team here is working to resolve these problems as quickly as possible. The forum thread linked below will be updated as this issue is addressed.

ArcheAge Head Start - 9/12 – 9/16

ArcheAge Open Beta

The last stage of ArcheAge’s journey to launch on September 16 begins this week! Head Start, our four-day pre-launch event, kicks off this week on Friday, September 12 at 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) and running until 8:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) on Tuesday, September 16! Players who participated in Open Beta will not need to redownload the entire game client, only an incremental patch to Version 1.2 Build 4.9. This build represents ArcheAge’s launch features but may not be the final patch before launch.

While all Beta progress will have been wiped, there will not be a wipe between Head Start and launch: all characters and their progress will be retained. It’s important to note that Head Start is an exclusive event for ArcheAge’s Founders: any Founder’s Pack will grant you immediate access and bonus perks. Founders can patch to the latest build right now via Glyph.

The Head Start server list has remained constant from Open Beta and represents our launch server list as well, though we may add more depending on traffic. The Auction House clusters will be Aranzeb, Naima, and Kyrios in AH1, Ollo, Tahyang, and Salphira in AH2, Shatigon and Kyprosa in AH3, and Eanna and Dahuta in AH4. Item listings from any server in a cluster will be accessible by all servers in that cluster.

Patch Notes - Version 1.2 Build 4.9

Gameplay

The drop rate of loot bags from monsters has significantly increased.
The drop rate of Sunlight Archeum, Moonlight Archeum, and Starlight Archeum from loot bags has been greatly increased.
The chance of equipment from loot bags has increased from monsters. These items can be salvaged to gain archeum.
The Solid Shaft recipe is available again, allowing for the construction of fishing boats.

Interface

The Auction House can now be searched using German and French.

Marketplace

The Marketplace inventory has been reorganized in terms of Featured Items and categorization of consumables.
The Character Slot Expansion scroll has been added. Accounts may have a maximum of six character slots per region but a limit of four character slots per server.
The Workman's Compensation labor potion has been returned to 12-hour cooldown and price of 300 Credits.
The Auction House License permitting non-Patrons to create Auction House listings has been added. It is not tradable.

Other

The priority server login queue for Patrons is now even faster.

Coming soon

Cosmetic Costumes: A future build will remove the stats from all costumes that are obtained or crafted in-game, much like stats were removed from costumes on the Marketplace. Similar to the normalization of mount speeds, this change is to prevent power creep and stat inflation while also promoting costume choice and preventing "best" items to be wearing to maximize your character's gameplay.
Improved Anti-Spam: XLGAMES is delivering a way for us to integrate our internally-developed anti-spam technology which learns over time and then kills spam and spammers before you see either even once. Expect more details on this to be announced next week.

Notes

This patch is less than 200MB large from the Open Beta client (8.5GB large as a new installation) and is available for download now from Glyph. Note that Head Start begins September 12 at 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7).

Patch Notes - Version 1.2 Build 4.7

New open beta features

    Farm Cart

A new type of player-crafted wagon has been added that carries two resource packs to fill the gap between the donkey and the larger Farm Wagon. It also comes with a horn for maximum beepage.

    AFK Kick has been implemented

Characters will be logged out after 45 minutes of [Away] status. Characters who are in the middle of crafting or fishing should not be kicked.

    Auction House

All accounts have the ability to bid on and win auctions by default. The ability to post auctions on the Auction House is unlocked in one of two ways:

Accounts that are under Patron status, or have had Patron in the past, have permanent access to post auctions.
Accounts that have never had Patron status can unlock the permanent ability to post auctions by consuming the Auction License item on any character.

General

The drop rate of Sunlight Archeum has been increased, and we will be evaluating the levels of Sunlight, Moonlight, and Starlight Archeum for further drop rate adjustments.
Quest rewards no longer consume Labor points when identifying them.
Mana consumption at lower levels has been reduced (this is a change made as part of Korea version 1.7 that is being included in our build).
Mounts have been standardized into speed tiers - 9.0m/s and 10.0m/s - with the exception of Donkeys, which retain their existing speeds (7.2m/s unencumbered).
The Skills UI now only displays the skills available with the level 50 cap.
Updated the contents of the Explorer's Chest and Merchant's Chest (obtained through Loyalty Tokens) to remove Hereafter Stones from the reward list... and added some other new goodies.
Crafted "dye" items that used to function as both crafting components and costume dyes now function as crafting components only.
Reduced the amount of Honor granted from Rift daily quests.
Tempering Burnish item price increased to 10 gold.

UI / Interface changes

Updated icons for Marketplace and Marketplace Mail.
Fixed the display of degree, minute, and second markers on Treasure Maps.
Polishing work on French and German versions: Fixing some cut-off words on the UI, fixing character name length restrictions (2 to 26 characters allowed).
Fixed a case where some map tooltips displayed in French while the client was in German mode.
Fixed a bug where accounts with zero credit balance could not spend Loyalty Tokens.

Post-launch features

We'd like to extend a thank-you for helping to test the below features in earlier Alpha and Beta phases. In keeping with the pacing of ArcheAge releases in other regions, the following has been set up for launch and will be unlocked over time:

Auroria and Diamond Shores content is unavailable. NPCs and interactable objects have been disabled, houses and farms cannot be placed, and castle locations are currently un-claimable.
The Mirage Isle Fishing Tournament and Arena Rankings are not currently running.
Submarines are unavailable for crafting at this time.
The Red Dragon is temporarily on vacation from Karkasse Ridgelands.
Hasla weapons beyond the first tier will be available in a future update.

Notes

This patch is about 800MB large from the CBE4 client and is available for download now from Glyph. Note that Open Beta begins September 4 at 10:00 AM PDT.

ArcheAge Launch Date Announced

To all of Erenor’s intrepid adventurers, be you fierce warriors, brave explorers, fearsome pirates, or skilled crafters: we welcome you as a member of ArcheAge’s launch community! Revealed this evening in Seattle at PAX Prime 2014 to an audience of your fellow players, Trion Worlds and XLGAMES are proud to officially announce that ArcheAge will launch on Tuesday, September 16.

Open Beta: 9/4-9/8
Head Start: 9/12-9/16
Launch: 9/16

Our road to launch starts with Open Beta commencing on Thursday, September 4 at 10:00 AM PDT and run to the same time on Monday, September 8. Open Beta will be available to all new and veteran players with no invitation required. If you’ve played during Closed Beta, your character will be waiting for you and your timers on crops and taxes will pick up right where they left off. Following Open Beta, we will be wiping all servers in preparation for ArcheAge’s Head Start, a four-day advance play window granted to all Founders. Head Start starts on Friday, September 12 at 10:00 AM PDT and culminates with ArcheAge’s official launch. All progress from Head Start will carry over to launch.

It’s important to note that this announcement does mark the end of Alpha. The Alpha and Omega servers will be permanently brought down Sunday, August 31 at 12:00 AM, but not without due fanfare. Starting this Saturday at 6:00 PM PDT, our diligent Alpha testers should check their in-game mail, keep a weather eye on the horizon, and be ready for anything…

Not yet a Founder? Claim access to Head Start and begin your adventure in ArcheAge four days early with special in-game loot! Silver, Gold, and Archeum Founder’s Packs will be available all the way through to launch on September 16. You can prepare for Open Beta now by using Glyph to update or install ArcheAge. If you have more questions about ArcheAge, please visit our updated FAQ.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, ArcheAge adventurers. The world of Erenor is about to open and we’re glad you’re here!

New Glyph Security Feature - Two-Factor Authentication via Email

Starting tomorrow, we are adding a new security feature to Glyph to help keep your account safe.

When you log in from a new computer or a place that we haven’t seen you log in from before, you’ll be asked to verify that it really is you that’s logging in, by entering a code emailed to your account’s primary email address.

The Details

The updated login screen now only asks for your account name and password. Once you have successfully entered the correct account name and password, you will have to verify your identity.

For those of you who use the Glyph or RIFT Authenticator, you’ll notice that the code entry has moved to a step after login. You can enter the code from your authenticator there and, optionally, whitelist your computer so you don’t have to enter codes when you log in using it in the future.

If you don’t have a Glyph or RIFT Authenticator attached to your account, you’ll receive an authentication code via email. You’ll need to enter that code to proceed. You can choose to whitelist the computer that you are on so you don’t have to get a code every time.

If you’ve whitelisted the computer that you’re on, you won’t have to enter a code again to log in to Glyph as long as the computer doesn’t change. If you log in from a new location, get a new computer, or your ISP changes your computer’s IP address, then you’ll be asked for a code again.
If you’re a RIFT player, the computers that you have authorized in the past with RIFT’s Coin Lock security will automatically be whitelisted.
If you’d like to use a mobile authenticator on your account, please check out the Glyph Authenticator for iOS or the RIFT Authenticator for Android and Windows Phone.
If you have any issues with access to your account, please contact our Support Team for assistance.

ArcheAge Closed Beta Event 3

    Aranzeb
    Naima
    Kyrios
    Ollo
    Tahyang
    Salphira

Europe

    Shatigon
    Kyprosa

    Dahuta (New)

ArcheAge Closed Beta Event 3

With our third Closed Beta Event comes our third ArcheAge competition: a screenshot contest! Ten skilled winners will each receive an ArcheAge Archeum Founder’s Pack.

ArcheAge Beta Shots Fired Contest

Capture a screenshot from ArcheAge based on the guidelines below for a chance to win an Archeum Founder’s Pack.

Instructions

Take an ArcheAge screenshot that captures the essence of Closed Beta Event 3′s theme: “Blood & Bounty”.
We’re looking for raw screenshots, ideally with the UI turned off (see the image below for shortcuts).

Your entry cannot use content that is copyrighted or trademarked, including custom logos.
One entry per person. Submitting more than one entry may disqualify you.
Post your entry as an attachment or linked image on the official ArcheAge forums as a reply to this thread.

ArcheAge Closed Beta Event 3

ArcheAge’s third Closed Beta Event begins this week, starting Thursday, August 14 at 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) and running until the same time on Monday, August 18! Players who participated in CBE2 will not need to redownload the entire game client, only an incremental patch to Build 4.5 which will be on our Alpha servers tomorrow.

There will not be a wipe before CBE3 begins: all characters and their progress will be retained from CBE2. Your timers on crops and taxes are set to pick up right where they left off at the end of the last event. It’s important to note that invites to CBE2 will not be valid for CBE3, but we are expecting that this event will be four times the size of the first with lots more partner site giveaways and randomly-selected invitations for fans who signed up on the official ArcheAge website. Hundreds of thousands of invite emails are being sent out today and the CBE3 code giveaways will begin on Tuesday, August 12, at Alienware, Razer, Raptr, MMORPG.com, ZAM, IGN, PCGamesN, MMOHuts, OnRPG, MMOGames, BrowserGames.de, Free2Play.chip.de, MMOSpiele.de and Games.de. Additionally, our Alpha and Founder players will have access to all of Beta.

To prepare for the increased population, we’ve added three servers for CBE3! The Auction House is shared regionally, meaning item listings from any server will be accessible by all servers in that region. Also, the Alpha servers will be live during this event.

ArcheAge Feature Guide - Trade

ArcheAge Feature Guide: Trade

ArcheAge is a living world up for grabs. You’ll build farms, ships, mansions, and, with the help of a heroic guild, castles to dominate surrounding lands. But as sure as the heart of ArcheAge lives in the structures you create, its blood – carefully crafted, region-specific goods – can be found tucked into Trade Packs racing across dusty caravan trails and secret shipping lanes. Read on to lift the veil (and get a leg up) on this world of player-driven trade!

Trading 101

Trading is the art (and thrill and business) of getting valuable Trade Packs across the continents of ArcheAge. It’s a way to earn precious gold, and it’s the only way to earn important crafting components as well as Gilda Stars required to buy building and ship blueprints along with specialty goods from Mirage Isle.

It’s a source of great risk: opportunistic players could be waiting over the next hill or around the next island, armed to the teeth and prepared to relieve you of your wares. And it’s a source of greater rewards: the farther you travel, the more you can make… and the more you can offer would-be guards!

Sounds great! How do I start?

To run a trade route, you must craft (or find or steal) a Trade Pack, transport it to another region, and deliver it to a Trade NPC. A helpful Trading Guide NPC will give you a quest to craft and deliver your first Trade Pack as you level through your race’s starting zones. Note: Don’t worry about thieves to start – your first run should be between safe regions on your home continent!

Of course, Trade Packs are heavy and will encumber your character, so expect to be slowed (and without access to your glider or the use of world gates).

How do I craft a Trade Pack?

To craft a Trade Pack, you must visit a Specialty Workbench. These Workbenches can be located on your map under the Infrastructure section – simply ensure the checkbox next to “Specialty Workbench” is checked and its location will appear on your map.

Each Workbench (and the Trade Packs it can produce) are region-specific, requiring local ingredients that you can gather and harvest yourself or purchase from other players or the Auction House. Finishing a Trade Pack also requires a Quality Certificate, which you can purchase from General Merchants. Note: Trade Packs can be left safely on your land to be delivered later, but dropped Trade Packs will disappear after 6 days!

Where do I deliver it?

Once you’ve crafted your Trade Pack, you will need to deliver it to a Gold Trader, Resource Trader, or Gilda Star Trader in another region … or another continent! Gold Traders reward you with gold, Resource Traders reward you with important crafting components used in a variety of other recipes, and Gilda Star Traders pay out Gilda Stars you can use to purchase specialty items including blueprints for houses, boats, and more. To receive rewards from a Resource or Gilda Star Trade you must deliver your Trade Pack to the other continent or Freedich Isle.

If you choose a gold reward, it will be delivered to you via in-game mail. Gilda Stars are rewarded immediately, as are materials from the Resource Trader. Note: Not every region has all types of traders. You can browse available traders under the Merchants section of your map.

In general, the longer a trade route, the greater the rewards. Trade routes where you travel across the ocean from one continent to another are often the most lucrative, but they’re also the most dangerous! Your slow movement speed and inability to use a glider while carrying a Trade Pack will make you particularly susceptible to attacks from other players who would like to steal your Trade Pack and turn it in for themselves.

How do I get there?

By Donkey, of course! The Donkey is an early-game quest reward mount – the only one, in fact, that is effective at carrying a Trade Pack. It is not as fast as normal mounts, but is certainly better than walking (or attempting to ride your Elk, Snowlion, Horse, or Leomorph with a Trade Pack equipped).

Other modes of transportation such as ships, farm wagons, and cars have room to carry Trade Packs as well. You can also make use of the world’s automated transport systems such as Airships and Carriages. Note: You cannot use a World Gate while carrying a Trade Pack – that would be cheating!

Safety first!

There are several ways to help protect yourself from would-be bandits and pirates while running a trade route. First, watch your map! PvP regions will enter a Peace period after a great deal of player-versus-player combat has occurred. During this period, no PvP combat is allowed, making it the ideal time to move through with a Trade Pack.

When you transport a Trade Pack across the ocean, consider traveling with friends and/or guild members for protection. Player mercenaries might also be available for hire, just make sure that they are reputable and will not turn on you. Remember: The larger the trade caravan, the safer… and the more lucrative for attackers!

Sailing Through Beta

Thanks to all of you who joined our second Closed Beta Event: Setting Sail. This event was three times larger than our first event, and it was great to see everyone on the servers!

With this event, we focused on testing ArcheAge’s integration with Trion Worlds, the tools and processes we’ve created to manage the game, and the all-important gameplay testing. Our anti-botting and anti-spamming tools were tested out and performed generally well. The entire time you were playing, we were adjusting to catch both bots and spammers. At times the tools were a little overzealous, catching some real players as well as the bots. We know that it’s no fun for you to get caught by accident, but these tests really help us find that best balance to catch the largest number of evildoers possible without affecting legitimate players.

Thanks to your help, we also tested refinements to the billing interfaces between Trion’s and XLGAMES’ systems. The good news is that the improved systems handled the increased load very well. Some of you may have noticed there were still a couple instances of seeing a balance of zero credits in the Marketplace under the heaviest load. Folks are working on the next round of improvements there as well.

In addition to all the testing of our tools and integration, we received a lot of great feedback on gameplay and the contents of the Marketplace. It’s important to hit the right balance in having a Marketplace that has fun and fair options. We’re glad so many of you enjoyed it and agree with the direction we’re heading! Expect further updates in the future after our next Beta event.

For gameplay, we are continuing to collect and review your feedback with XLGAMES, especially around all of the different aspects of the Labor System. The concept of labor is intertwined with every other system in the game and great care must be taken when changing parts of it in order to avoid unintended, wide-reaching effects. The feedback from our tests has been really solid and we’re focusing on the best ways to improve the gameplay experience for free players. Some of that relief will arrive when APEX is introduced and we’re now also we’re working with XLGAMES to remove the labor cost for opening quest rewards in a future update as well.

With the continuing success of ArcheAge’s Beta events, we are thrilled to announce the dates for Closed Beta Event 3: Blood & Bounty.

Our third Closed Beta Event will begin at 10:00 AM PDT next Thursday, August 14 and run through Monday, August 18 at 10:00 AM PDT. With this next Beta event, ArcheAge going to get even bigger with over double the number of invites randomly sent to those who signed up on the official ArcheAge website, even more Beta code giveaways on partner websites, and additional servers! Remember, all Founders get into every Closed Beta Event!

See you in Closed Beta Event 3 next week!

A Brighter Age was Brilliant!

We’d like to say thanks for helping make our first ArcheAge Closed Beta Event, A Brighter Age, a great success!

This was an important test. It was the first time our launch hardware and networks were load tested with real people, the first test for the new backend software integration present in our version of ArcheAge, the first load test for the store, and the first clean test of some of the gameplay westernizations in ArcheAge.

We’d like to share as many details with you as we can about what we were testing and how it all went.

Our key giveaways all went extremely rapidly, and you turned out in larger numbers, faster than any beta we’ve run before! So fast, that the first servers filled up in 18 minutes. Usually when we run a beta, even when things go quickly, we have an hour’s notice that more might be needed. Not in this in case. This gave us important practice at adding a new set of servers to a packed service.

While you were all playing on the servers, we were carefully monitoring the systems behind the scenes and making modifications the entire time. All of the hardware held up really well, and you helped us identify one server that was having network issues, which we resolved during the test.

You also helped us to identify and fix challenges with some of the custom integration for our version! Some of you may have noticed issues with logging in, or with the store showing 0 credits. Both of these were due to one of the key systems integrated for our region. This was the first time that integration had ever been tested under real load, and making sure that all of the software and integration scales well is one of the reasons for these progressive beta events. With your help, we were able to identify and fix issues with that integration before the end of the event!

During the event, we were also adapting our own anti-spam and anti-bot software in real time. Our anti-spam software now handles in-game mails. When spammers get caught and removed, the software automatically handles any mails they’d sent prior to getting caught, removing all traces from your in-game mailbox.

While you were playing, you were also giving us feedback on what you liked, and didn’t like, with our version of ArcheAge. We really appreciate all of the detailed feedback, both about things you liked and would like to see improved. With your input, we’re reviewing a number of systems with XLGAMES, including use of labor while you’re hunting and looting, labor regeneration rates for online and offline players, and the availability of Archeum. We’re also looking into the feasibility of XLGAMES adding an ability queue and mouse inverting.

While larger gameplay changes will be ongoing over multiple builds, bug fixes, smaller updates, security updates, and localization changes are already in progress and on their way over to us for the next build. We’ll also be tweaking the items on the store to give you more of what you’re asking for! Remember, all of your credits will be refunded at launch, and your spending and feedback helps us to customize what’s on the store for you!

Based on the stability of CBE1 and the turnaround of key updates, we are thrilled to be able to announce our second Closed Beta Event: Setting Sail!

Our second beta event will start at 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) on Wednesday, July 30 and run through 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) on Monday, August 4. We expect it to be around three times as big as the first Closed Beta Event. We’ll have more invites for those of you who have signed up on the official ArcheAge website, and more giveaway keys than before, so you’ll have a better chance to get in! In addition, we’re holding a contest for you to win an opportunity to play on Alpha AND on Beta! As always, all Founders get into every Closed Beta Event!

We look forward to seeing you in ArcheAge!

Dawn of A Brighter Age

We’re thrilled to be starting ArcheAge’s first Closed Beta Event today!

Your support has been absolutely overwhelming – We’re truly humbled by your dedication to not just the best sandbox of 2014, but the best MMO of 2014, in such massive numbers.

We’re also happy to announce today that over one million of you have already joined our community of ArcheAge supporters, even before the first Beta event began!

As ArcheAge is Trion’s first MMO partnership, it’s been an exciting and educational journey to get here. We have translated around 2 million words, localized a ton of quests, extended our international infrastructure and opened it to a partner for the first time, and more. We’ve spent untold hours getting everything ready for you. All while working closely with XLGAMES to customize ArcheAge to better suit the Western audiences.

Players who are new to ArcheAge will get to experience its uniquely customized Version 1.2 for the first time on our Beta servers in both North America and Europe.

With this version, we bring you updated combat balance, improvements to the economic game of ArcheAge, and a host of great new features. In ArcheAge you can create a farm and breed native animals for unique mounts, build a ship and travel the high seas to trade in your goods for coin, make a name for yourself crafting the best gear in the game, stalk and slaughter your fellow players, or build your own castle on Auroria!

Our first Closed Beta Event, “A Brighter Age,” starts today, and continues on through Monday, July 21st. This is just the first of our Closed Beta Events! We’ll have events during the week as well as overlapping weekends. We’ll have specifics closer to each event, as the results of a given event will affect the schedule.

Please do keep in mind – There’s real testing going on during these Closed Beta Events! This isn’t “just a marketing beta.” We’re evaluating gameplay as well as infrastructure during these events, and we’ll be following up with an online survey at the conclusion of beta to collect even more of your thoughts. It’s important for us that you tell us how the game plays and feels! We take your feedback in combination with performance data from the game itself, and review it all in partnership with XLGAMES with a goal of constantly improving, to ensure the game is as good as possible for you when it goes live later this year!

We’re all very excited to see you all on the servers today and through the weekend!

ArcheAge Closed Beta Event 1 Invitations Sent

Adventurers, get ready!

We’ve sent tens of thousands of randomly-selected community members an invitation to join Closed Beta Event 1 (CBE1) starting on Thursday, July 17 at 10:00 AM PDT. Be sure to check the inbox of the email address you signed up with on the official website. If you received an email, you’ll be able to open (or download) Glyph, select ArcheAge in your Library, click Beta from the top-right region select, and begin pre-downloading and installing the client in advance of the event. We’ve also sent our Founders a similar email to let them know they can start as well.

These invites are good for CBE1. Want to guarantee access to this event, all future Closed Beta Events, and our four-day Head Start event before launch? Purchase a Silver, Gold, or Archeum Founder’s Pack! Archeum Founders will be able to continue playing on the Alpha and Omega servers during and after this first Closed Beta Event and enjoy a number of extra benefits at launch.

We’ll be starting Closed Beta with two servers: Aranzeb (NA) and Shatigon (EU). Aranzeb is located in Dallas, TX while Shatigon is located in Amsterdam. Players will be able to freely select which server they want to play on but character transfers will not be possible at this time. Both names ultimately refer to members of the Twelve, the original expedition that discovered the birthplace of the world, the Garden at the source of all magic. Aranzeb of the Elves, a master of magic, was imbued with great power during his time in the Garden, he never lost touch with his true self, and returned to the land of mortals with his elf-manity intact. Shatigon, ancestor of the Dwarves, became the god of abundance, earth, and gold. Ollo the Dwarf, one of the original Twelve, becomes consumed by Shatigon after his time in the Garden and a key player in the war with Kyrios that leads to Auroria’s destruction.

ArcheAge Version 1.2 Build 4.1 - Patch Notes

The following build will be applied to the Alpha server during this posted maintenance: http://forums.archeagegame.com/showt...-AM-PT-(GMT-7)

Known Issues

The following patch notes do not include Trion’s custom gameplay changes, which will appear in an upcoming Beta candidate build. These custom changes include (but may not be limited to)

Addition of Gilda Star traders to cross-continental trade routes.
Adjustment of stolen trade pack split from 40% turn-in value returned to creator down to 20% returned to creator.
Normalization of ping-dependent skills (“fast” skills with no cooldown).
Additional Gilda Stars granted through sub-level 30 PvE relative to sailboat and small house costs.
Removal of Bounty Hunter Cloak Arrest and Instant Judgment abilities.
    45 Minute AFK Kick

Some strings will still be displayed in Korean in this build due to the rapid turnaround from delivery to Alpha. In addition, some pre-1.2 English strings may be out of date in terms of numbers or functionality. Expect these to be corrected ASAP in future updates.

The Marketplace (credit store) will not yet be available with this update.

Please keep in mind that these patch notes have come through the compiling of multiple source builds and then translation. This is the first (and probably only!) time we’re going through this process at such a scale. We’ll endeavor to correct any errors as quickly as possible!

1.0 + 1.2 Patch Notes

Battle

Existing characters will receive a free skill tree respec with this update due to the significant skill changes below.

Combat Stats

    Added new character stats:

      Healing Power

Contributes to Healing skills, rather than Magic Attack.
Healing Power is increased by Spirit; itemized on Clubs and Great Clubs.

      Focus

This stat decreases the rate at which the target's Parry, Evade, and Block cancel out your attacks.
Higher Focus decreases the target's chance to Parry/Block/Evade.
        Raised by item stats.

      Resilience

This stat decreases your attacker's critical hit rate against you, as well as the additional critical bonus damage you take.
Higher resilience means a lower chance of getting critically hit, and lowered critical damage received when you do.
        Raised by item stats.

      Toughness

        Decreases damage taken during PvP.
Reduces additional damage above and beyond your Physical and Magic defense, damage reduction, etc.
Toughness is only increased by item stats.

Modified damage and heal amounts of all skills; weapon and character stats are more relevant to calculations.
Magic Defense and Physical Defense: If a character's Magic Defense is equal to its Physical Defense, the two are equally effective.
Reduced the aggro impact of health regen skills (health over time).
Increased Attack Speed on the Dual Weapons buff to 10% from 8%.
Weapons have a higher base Attack.
Increased the relevant damage gain per stat point from 0.1 to 0.2, and Stamina hit point gain from 8 to 12.
Increased the amount of hit points gained per level.
Spirit no longer affects health and mana regen in combat; only gear and item stats affect this rate.
      Added "Ignore Magic Defense" effect.
Instrument skills only affect the players in your own party (does not extend to everyone in the raid)
Instruments now have usage cooldowns. Different instruments do not share a cooldown.
Damage dealt increases when the character is higher level than an NPC.
Adjusted the amount of added experience gained when in a party from 0-15% to 3-9%, based on group size.
Changing weapons in combat triggers a 2-second global cooldown.

Added Animation Detail slider to Quality - Detail options.
Higher settings allow display of high-res animations at a greater distance.
    Improved quest Cinematic View.
NPC dialogue now pages left to right instead of vertical scroll.
Disabled use of skills and interactions while in Screenshot Mode.
Improved display of zone-wide battle messages (War times, Rifts).
    Improved quest reward dialogue window.
In item tooltips, Critical Damage info is now displayed with a decimal place.
Equipped effects are now calculated on tooltips the same way they would be in the character info screen. This may cause some armor set effects to appear differently than before.
Consecutively gained experience is now displayed as a single sum value.

Mailbox

    Improved Mail UI:
Changed Receive Money and Receive All buttons to images.
Fixed some system mail titles displaying more than once.
Relocated item attachment slot and the Receive Attachments button.
Added scrollbar to some system mails.
Added the option to receive all attached items from the main mailbox.

Character

Changed the default items given to new characters.
Updated the default clothing at character creation.
Selecting skillsets at level 5 and 10, as well as changing skillsets, now displays a system message informing you of your new class name.
When characters below level 20 learn a new skill, it’s now automatically added to the first available slot on the main hotbar.
Certain mounts, pets, ships, consumables are now automatically added to the secondary hotbar when acquired.
Characters of level 10 and below who die in controlled zones can now respawn at their location of death.
Added a new emote skill: /pose
    Improved Firran male default posture.
Improved the running motion on Dash.

Preparing ArcheAge for Version 1.2 on Alpha, Beta, and Beyond

Busy days ahead, adventurers!

Two weeks ago, ArcheAge Team members returned from visiting the developers in Korea where both XLGames and Trion Worlds jointly decided it best to launch the game in North America and Europe with Patch 1.2. If you haven’t yet, be sure to read our announcement on the topic, then come back and read the rest of this article!

We’ve been hard at work getting ready for the release of Patch 1.2 on Alpha and are actively QA testing the build set to go live this week. To differentiate from the Korean naming schema, we’ll be calling it ArcheAge Version 1.2, Build 4.1. Due to our hurry to get feedback from players on how the gameplay feels, it will not contain the Trion-specific game changes mentioned previously on the forums (such as Gilda Star rewards for international trade routes).

Full patch notes will be published in both the Alpha and public forums before it hits the Alpha servers. Yes, plural: we’ll be spinning up a new Alpha server named Omega with the release of this build. Omega is located in North America rather than Europe due to resources in our Amsterdam server location being used for Beta preparation. This second Alpha server will allow us to test what a pure Version 1.2 environment plays like. At this time, server transfers will not be possible.

As a result of our decision to launch with Version 1.2 content, Beta was postponed by a few weeks. With Alpha testing about to begin, we’re glad to announce that Closed Beta Events will be starting in mid-to-late July. These events will last three to five days each with access being granted by random invitation or purchase of a Founder’s Pack. We’ll be hosting invite giveaways in the coming weeks and will open up European servers during these events. An all-access Open Beta phase will follow these events, after which we’ll wipe the servers of all progress and data to begin Head Start and launch later this year.

We’re thrilled to have you joining us for ArcheAge’s path to launch. Thank you for being part of our pre-release community!

The ArcheAge Patron Program and APEX System

Announced two months ago alongside the beginning of Alpha, ArcheAge’s Patron Program was born from the experience of taking our first MMO, RIFT, to a free-to-play model. In simplest terms, the program grants access to exclusive features and expanded benefits in-game. This premium service tier, called Patron status, can be gained through a variety of methods. As a cornerstone of our “No Tricks, No Traps” approach to free-to-play, it’s important to us that the Patron Program adds to the fun of ArcheAge but is not required to play the game. This optional program was jointly designed by XLGames and Trion Worlds and is available to those players who want to get a little extra out of ArcheAge.

Before we discuss how to get it, let’s detail what Patron status means in ArcheAge. Patrons will enjoy the following benefits:

Bonus online Labor Point regeneration (10 per 5 minutes)
Offline Labor Point regeneration (5 per 5 minutes)
Increased maximum Labor Points cap (5000 maximum)
10% bonus to all Experience gained through combat or labor usage
    10% discount on Marketplace purchases
5 Loyalty Tokens per day for use in the Loyalty Store (awarded on first login of the day)
Ability to claim land by placing farms and houses
Ability to pay in-game taxes on owned property
Ability to post auctions on the Auction House by default

The Marketplace and Loyalty Store are different in that the former accepts Credits, the premium currency of ArcheAge, while the latter accepts Loyalty Tokens earned from the Patron Program. The Loyalty Store will offer a variety of items including special pets, fun musical instruments, certificates that cover weekly taxes on a large farm, and Patron-only lock boxes that each contain valuable, surprise loot. Patron and free accounts will both start with two character slots and will be able to purchase additional slots up to a maximum of six across all servers, with a maximum of four slots on a single server.

Free accounts will be able to make purchases from the Auction House but will not be able to post their own listings by default, nor do they regenerate Labor Points while offline. Free accounts will be able to unlock full Auction House access as a low-cost Marketplace purchase, a measure in place to protect the in-game economy from mass-created accounts. Players whose Patron status lapses will retain full Auction House access. We are currently exploring options for allowing free accounts to also have the ability to build housing and pay taxes after ArcheAge launches while preventing abuse of this permission.

All Founders will be considered Patrons during all testing phases. The Patron time included in Founder’s Packs will begin counting down on launch day. In addition, the Credits included in each Founder’s Pack can be used to purchase additional Patron time via the Marketplace at any time on or after launch day.

To ensure that all players have the option to potentially become a Patron, there are two ways to obtain this status. Players can purchase Patron Status as a subscription via real money on the Trion Worlds web store; expect pricing in line with RIFT’s current Patron Program. Alternately, players can use credits to purchase a Patron Pass through the ArcheAge Marketplace – these credits can be acquired by web store purchase, Founder’s Packs, or by obtaining an in-game item called APEX.

APEX, short for ArcheAge Patron Exchange, is an in-game item that can be sold on ArcheAge’s Auction House or traded between players; it grants Credits when consumed by a character. The Credits granted by an APEX can then be spent on any Marketplace purchase, including the 30-day Patron Pass mentioned above. This allows industrious players in ArcheAge to let their gameplay pay for their Patron status without spending real money.

We’ll be hosting a livestream to further discuss the Patron Program, the APEX System, and where we’re at with Patch 1.2 and the second Alpha server. We’re eager to test out both the Marketplace and the Patron Store in Alpha and will be granting our testers sufficient currencies to try them out and help us get them ready for live service. Be sure to share your questions about this announcement in this forum thread and then join us on Thursday afternoon on Twitch.

Again, thank you for joining ArcheAge’s founding community and experiencing the game’s path to launch with us!

Recapitulatif stream Trion - Mount Up and All Aboard

ArcheAge Feature Guide: Traversing the World

ArcheAge Feature Guide - Traversing the World

ArcheAge Feature Guide: Traversing the World

The world of ArcheAge is vast and seamless, with a huge range of landscapes from arid deserts to tropical shores to forbidding mountain peaks. In keeping with the theme of choosing one’s own path, there are also a variety of transportation options throughout the lands – both player-controlled and automated.

Mounts

Your first mount will likely come from one of the early quests in the game, but those and others are also available from various merchants or as rare rewards. Mounts are generally obtained as babies, and you’ll need to raise and care for them until they grow into a suitable companion!

Once grown to an adult, mounts can be summoned into the world. They act like a separate character, in that they have their own health bar, stats, experience amount and level, slots for equipment, and collision. You can ride your mount or have them follow you as you run around; mounts also have different abilities that are gained as they level and can be used while you’re riding. They will also be attacked by hostile NPCs – or hostile players – bent on disabling your means of escape!

Mounts can be named, and will display this name over their head when rider-less. Target your mount when summoned and right click their health bar to rename them.

Some mounts, namely the horses, elk, and snowlions, have the ability to carry more than one character. The owner acts as the main rider and controls the mount, while another member of their faction can mount up behind and be transported. This is especially handy for moving trade packs. The mount’s owner can dismount passengers at any time.

Each playable race has a different racial mount type, offered in three color options during an early mount-raising quest line in the starting zones.

Elf : Elk

Firran - Snowlion

Harani : Leomorph

Nuian : Horse

Your mount will gain experience as it travels and when it is summoned (and alive!) during combat where you defeat experience-granting mobs. Higher level means more health and mana, as well as unlocking mounted abilities and access to sturdier mount armor. Armor gives your mount additional protection and is visible to others when equipped. Basic armor can be purchased from stables, but there are special sets that can be obtained as drops or during events.

If your mount is defeated, it will enter an injured state and collapse. It’s possible for you to encourage it to get up, but your mounted speed will be reduced by 30% until the mount is healed. Mounts will not gain experience while injured.

Stablemasters in many villages will offer to heal your injured mount for a fee. You can also carry mount recovery potions to treat your companion in the field.

Gliders

Gliders are a unique take on flying mounts that allow you to control your character in the air while also taking into account gravity, height, duration of flight, and potential obstacles in your path. Gliders will always tend to, well, glide down; different models have more or less time and ability to stay aloft.

Gliders are equipped to your character’s back in the same slot a trade or resource pack would occupy, thus preventing you from gliding while also carrying a heavy load!

The basic glider is offered through an early quest line and can be upgraded through the crafting system at various levels. There are multiple different glider models, including one dropped by the legendary Kraken.

Every glider has a set of ratings in these basic stats:

Flight Speed: Speed of forward movement.
Gliding Ability: How quickly it loses altitude.
Turning Speed: How quickly (and thus sharply) it can turn.
Descent Speed: Does it start out fast or take time to build up speed?

In addition, gliders can have a combination of special abilities such as an upward boost to quickly gain altitude, the ability to drop explosives on targets below, self-destruction, quick side-rolls, etc.

Boats

The oceans in ArcheAge are expansive, with numerous mapped and unmapped islands and points of interest to discover. Travel on the high seas can be both dangerous and rewarding, and the game provides a range of ships with unique features – as well as strengths and weaknesses – to get you out on the water.

Rowboat

The rowboat is provided during early-level quests to every character. This two-seat craft is slow and doesn’t have a lot of frills other than a light at the bow; it’ll get you there in a pinch, but leaves you very vulnerable to attack from both players and monsters if you stray too far from the coast.

Clippers: Harpoon Clipper and Adventure Clipper

The trimaran is commonly referred to as the “speedboat,” being small, fast, and highly maneuverable. This inexpensive adventuring boat provides a great introduction to the range of ocean content available in the game. There are two versions of the Clipper; both share the same design and movement abilities.

The Adventure Clipper is a well-rounded explorer’s boat; it comes with an underwater breathing apparatus and a side-mounted cannon which can be manned by a passenger. The ability to open or return fire will come in handy in a tight spot, and the Clipper’s maneuverability means it can get more than a few hits in against a larger, slower boat.

The Harpoon Clipper comes outfitted with two underwater breathing devices, a portable harpoon cannon which can be wielded by a passenger, and a front-mounted large harpoon which can be manned by a passenger. Harpoons come in handy for latching on to other ships, as when using the Clipper to chase down high value targets for boarding ….

    Captain Abilities

Captain’s Intuition: Greatly increases the Ranged Attack Evasion of the person at the helm.

Merchant Ship

Long, low, and fast, the merchant’s ship is a two-masted speed machine for bulk transport of resource and trade packs across the seas. Twenty packs can be stored in the crates on deck, two cannoneers can man the cannons mounted left and right mid-ship, and a spotter can be posted on the bow telescope to monitor the area for incoming boats. At full speed and closing head-on, it might not be much warning, though! Two underwater breathing devices are provided, perhaps in case you drop something overboard.

Despite its speed, this workhorse is not particularly maneuverable, and a fully loaded merchant ship is the juiciest prize on the seas. Bring defenders!

    Captain Abilities

Captain’s Intuition: Greatly increases the Ranged Attack Evasion of the person at the helm.
Quick Turn: Temporarily increases the turning ability of the boat.

Warships: Eznan Cutter and Lutesong Junk

Warships are the height of naval power and the pride of their respective factions. These large, powerful ships pack heavy firepower, can take a beating, and provide a base for smaller, faster strike teams. The two types of warship have distinctive appearances themed after the two continents’ heritage, though they can be piloted by members of either faction. The features and functionality are the same on both ships.

Warships are slow to move and slow to turn. On the flip side, they can laugh off all but the nastiest of sea creatures, and probably most solo small boats they come across. Warships are at their best when manned by a good-sized crew, as they come with multiple features:

A portable harpoon gun on the rear deck can be equipped by a crewmember.
Large light sources at the rear of the ship keep the captain’s area illuminated.
Eight cannons, four per side, stand ready to rain destruction on your targets.
Four storage chests suited for trade or resource packs.
A mid-ship or crow’s nest compass with intermediate range gives you a good overview of forces in your area.
Extendable planks on either side are not just for walking; you can launch yourself and your glider from these as they “open,” and they make good landing pads as well.
Below the deck, six underwater breathing devices support treasure hunting (or stealth operations – you decide!).

    Captain Abilities

Captain’s Intuition: Greatly increases the Ranged Attack Evasion of the person at the helm.
Quick Turn: Temporarily increases the turning ability of the boat.
Ship Charge: Temporarily increases forward movement speed.
Turbulence: Pulses knock gliders out of the air within 50 meters of the ship.

The Black Pearl

There are those who will swear that a third type of warship lurks offshore, one whose plans are never sold by a reputable shipwright. No, the designs for this ship are a secret, carried separately in many small pieces, and it can only be built after all of them have been assembled. The sightings report it is shaped much like the usual warship, but modified for increased speed and storage.

Her dark sails unmistakable, her purpose obvious, the Black Pearl is legend and nightmare combined.

Fishing Boat

The fishing boat is a specialized craft for sport fishing. While it has some common features like a front-mounted harpoon and storage crates, its real strength is the central compartment that can hold several large fish, along with two rear hooks to carry extra-large specimens. This boat also comes equipped with sonar to detect large fish schools within range. If the goal of your seafaring is advanced fishing, this is your ride!

Building and Summoning Your Boat

All boats follow a similar path for creation. You first need to buy or acquire the plans and appropriate materials to build a drydock on open water. Once built, a drydock will last only three days, so be sure you can provide the rest of the boat-building materials in time! Bring resource packs to the drydock in the order required (based on type of ship you’re building) to progress construction. Once complete, the boat will be launched, and you will be able to summon and de-summon it from a deed in your inventory.

Having a boat summoned will greatly increase your logout timer, so it’s a good idea to manually de-summon them before logging out. They will also be automatically de-summoned if you move too far away. Enemies can take over the steering of your boat, but ownership will remain yours; they cannot de-summon it to their inventory.

Custom Sails

The design that appears on a boat’s sails can be customized as part of the user-created content system. This can be guild crests or personally designed images that you upload to the game!

Ground Transport

Farm Wagon

The Farm Wagon is a crafted land vehicle that acts as a summoned object, similar to a boat. While slower than a mount, it provides a couple of useful benefits. As a farm utility, it can be used to bulk-water planted crops with the sprayer on the front end. Perhaps more useful to some are the four storage crates that can carry trade or resource packs on the back of the cart. These allow a single player to drastically increase the efficiency of their land trade routes, though you may want to bring guards for more dangerous areas!

Vehicles

These high-end, mid-tech roadsters require significant investment to build and maintain. Accidents* are common and safety features are lacking in these high-speed wood and metal contraptions, but it’s hard to beat their style while also being able to transport two trade or resource packs in the storage compartment.

* Warning: Traffic codes do not exist in ArcheAge.

Worldgates

Players also have the ability to quickly travel between memorized locations using reagents known as Hereafter Stones. As you travel through Nuia and Haranya, you’ll come across large registers in towns called Memory Tomes. Just coming close to one will record its location in a book provided to every character at creation. Interacting with a Memory Tome will set it as your recall point, which you can return to any time with your Recall ability.

Opening a Worldgate to a location saved in your teleport book is as simple as opening the book, selecting the specific location you wish to travel to, and clicking the green portal icon at the bottom right. A Hereafter Stone will be consumed if traveling within your continent, or a Refined Hereafter Stone if the travel is cross-continental, and a worldgate will be summoned in front of your character. Run toward and jump (literally, jump!) into the gate to teleport.

Worldgates are one-way from the location of the summoner. They can be used by anyone, however, including people not grouped with you. They last only a short while, so make sure you’re ready to go when one is created! You’ll see the name of the summoner and the destination zone above the worldgate as an overhead name.

In addition to the designated Memory Tome locations in the game, you can also add the location of player-built houses to your teleport book by using the house’s fireplace. Buy Memory Ink from a general merchant and bring it to the house whose location you wish to memorize. Light the fireplace and use the memorization option to add the house’s location to your teleport book! You can now return there at any time using Worldgates and Hereafter Stones just like other Memory Tome locations.

Automated transport routes

Most transportation in ArcheAge is player-driven, but there are systems for limited air and land transport along automatic routes that one can catch at designated stations.

Carriages

Carriages run back-and-forth routes between two Carriage Stations. These often cross zone boundaries and are used as transport between zones. You can jump on and off carriages at any time, and they also offer four bench seats that will help secure your character (and any pack cargo you might have) to the carriage. Carriage Stations at either end of the route offer a telescope that lets you view approaching carriages from a sizeable distance.

Airships

Airships fly between two designated Airship Towers. These tend to be routes that cut significant time off of ground travel, but may require waiting at the tower for the airship to arrive. Once on board, you can also jump off of an airship mid-route, but gliders are recommended; these machines fly high above the ground! You should also exercise caution while riding airships unattended; watch out for shady characters hoping to isolate a target or push unaware travelers over the railings!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this look into transportation. We’ll be bringing you more Feature Guides on other ArcheAge systems in the future!

ArcheAge Feature Guide - Classes and Crafting

In the world of ArcheAge, choosing your own path is not just about where you go or what activities you partake in, but also who your character is and becomes. In this week’s Feature Guide, we take a look at the combat classes and crafting skills you can mix and match to ultimately create a character all your own.

Combat Classes

Your Class is composed of three Skillsets chosen out of a possible ten. There are no restrictions on which Skillsets can be paired with each other, resulting in 120 uniquely-named Class combinations of varying functionality (and efficacy). Want some bard skills alongside your dual-wield melee and your archery? There’s a name for that: Bloodskald.

Your first Skillset is selected at character creation. Only six options are available at that point, preventing unsuspecting players from potentially spending their first ten levels without any offense (all of the first six Skillsets start with a damage ability). The second and third Skillset slots unlock at levels five and ten, and the Skillsets selected can always be swapped around for a gold fee.

While your overall character level determines how many points you have to spend on active and passive abilities, each Skillset levels up independently. As you gain experience, your equipped Skillsets will progress, too (providing access to new abilities as they level up).

Skillsets retain their individual level even when “unequipped,” allowing you to level multiple trees to max if you’d like. Skillsets you’ve never used will stay at level ten, regardless of your character’s main level – it’s typically easier to slot one lower-level skill with two higher ones when leveling up additional trees.

Resetting the way you’ve spent points within a Skillset is done on the skill menu; resetting which Skillsets you have equipped can be done at a Skill Manager NPC or one of Nui’s followers at a resurrection site.

    Skills

      Archery

This Skillset focuses primarily on ranged damage dealing – as one might expect – with the tradeoff of ranged abilities having a damage penalty when too close to the target. Some active abilities help keep the target at a distance while applying damage-over-time and other effects, and its passive abilities boost mobility and ranged physical damage.

      Auramancy

This support Skillset deals in buffs for the caster and their group, debuffs for your enemies, and a mix of light healing, defense, and crowd control. Its broad toolkit makes for good group support.

      Battlerage

Charge in, fight up close, and keep your targets from getting away! This Skillset is primarily focused on offensive prowess with passive abilities that boost your attacks and provide some compensation for dual wielding weapons.

      Defense

This is the primary Skillset for those who want to pick up a shield and take some damage, packing the high-protection skills, taunts, and damage mitigation of a “tank.” Its passives focus on blocking and reducing incoming damage.

      Occultism

Focused on applying a variety of status effects and debuffs from a distance, this Skillset is great for bringing a few more tools to your damage or healing setup. Its passives boost your mana regeneration and chance for magic critical hits.

      Shadowplay

Fast attacks and high mobility in and out of combat situations are the specialties of Shadowplay, especially stealth and surprise attacks. Its passives lower aggro generation, increase your evasion, and boost your chance to score high-damage critical hits.

      Songcraft

As the Skillset for any aspiring bard, Songcraft comes with a variety of tricks. Its abilities include ranged damage and crowd control, buffs and small heals, debuffs, and more – all good tools to have access to whether solo or in a group! Its passives primarily boost Songcraft abilities.

      Sorcery

Smite your enemies with ranged and area-of-effect damage in the form of fire, electricity, and ice! Sorcery passive abilities increase damage while its multiple status effect combos provide ample disruption among its targets.

      Vitalism

Keep yourself and others alive with heals, heals over time, protection spells, and resurrection. Vitalism passives increase your mana pool and the potency of your healing effects.

      Witchcraft

This Skillset is all about crowd control – both applying and removing it. Witchcraft spellcasters lock down fights and control battles while their passive abilities increase defense and crowd control intensity.

    Combos

Synergies between the abilities in different Skillsets are called combos. Most combos are based on an ability applying a status to the target that causes another ability to do more damage or apply another increased effect. Some combos are specific synergies between abilities: After you jump away from a target with Shadowplay’s Drop Back, you can instant-cast Sorcery’s Flame Bolt.

Combo effects applied by an ability are shown as small icons at the bottom right of the ability mouseover’s stats section.
At the bottom of the mouseover text under “Combos,” you’ll find a description of abilities that can trigger a combo effect. Abilities that have special effects on other abilities will have these listed in the ability text by name.

Proficiencies, aka Crafting Skills

Entirely separate from combat skills or character level are your Proficiencies, which is a term for the crafting skills available in ArcheAge. You can start gaining proficiency in these crafts at any time simply by performing related activities – mine to gain Mining Proficiency, cook to gain Cooking Proficiency, make wood furniture to gain Carpentry Proficiency. In fact, most actions that are performed by spending Labor (a resource pool like health or mana that regenerates slowly over time) will result in your character gaining Proficiency as well as experience. It’s entirely possible to level your character to cap through Proficiencies instead of through combat.

At 10,000 points in a Proficiency, it will be capped until you choose to unlock that specific skill as a specialization. You can raise any number of Proficiencies to 10,000, but from there specializations are limited – only 5 can reach 20,000, only 4 can reach 30,000, only 3 can reach 40,000, and only 2 can reach the maximum current amount of 50,000 points. (It’s possible to increase specializations, and maximum skill is subject to change.)

The benefits of specializing in additional tiers of Proficiency are increased action speed (when harvesting or crafting), decreased Labor costs, increased chance to gain rare items when gathering, and access to skill-locked crafting recipes.

In addition to gaining experience and skill when using Proficiencies, you’ll also gain Vocation Points. These points can be redeemed like a currency at the Blue Salt Brotherhood’s representative merchants. The Blue Salt Brotherhood is a global partnership of gatherers and crafters who provide support to each other via training quests and specialty goods bought with Vocation Points.

    Proficiencies

      Alchemy

Potions, gear enhancement stones (Lunastones), reagents for other crafting recipes, dyes.

      Carpentry

        Wooden weapons, furniture.

      Commerce

Regional Specialties (trade packs), also gained by successful Auction House sales.

      Composition

Gained by writing and saving sheet music for the Composition system. Increased skill level allows you to write longer compositions and play compositions without mistakes.

      Construction

Non-production skill. Gained by completing construction steps on structures and ships.

      Cooking

Make food and drinks that provide combat buffs and health/mana regeneration.

      Farming

Planting and harvesting fruits, vegetables, or grains. (ex: corn, rice, tomatoes)

      Fishing

Gathering skill. Salt and freshwater fishing, plus sport fishing for large fish!

      Gathering

Planting and harvesting herbs and flowering crops. (ex: azalea, clover, cotton)

      Handicrafts

Instruments, jewelry, fishing tools, miscellaneous home décor.

      Husbandry

Care and feeding of domesticated livestock.

      Larceny

Non-production skill. Gained by theft of unprotected crops or livestock from same-faction players.

      Leatherworking

Leather armor, refining pelts, other leather goods.

      Logging

Gathering skill. Maintaining and chopping down trees.

      Machining

Vehicles, ships, gliders, and associated small parts.

      Masonry

        Hereafter Stones, refining stone.

      Metalwork

Plate armor, refining ores to ingots.

      Mining

Gathering skill. Collecting ore and gems from mining veins.

      Printing

        Paper, music paper, books.

      Tailoring

        Cloth armor, refining fabric.

      Weaponry

        Creation of metal weapons.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this look into Classes and Crafting, and look forward to bringing you more Feature Guides on other ArcheAge systems in the future!

Soit 200 minutes (3h20).

A gauche : discussion

A gauche : mon personnage

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
