Patch Build number - 1.20.0 (1292)

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 11/25/2020. The patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 6 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

OVERVIEW

This update continues our ongoing weapon changes as we dial in on weapon utility and identity. Though we are continuing to sand out some rough edges at the top end, this pass sprinkles in some love to popular but less relevant weapon lines by bringing their stats closer to our established baseline. As always, this is a gradual process. We won't address every gun that needs work in this update. If there are guns you feel still need a pass, please be sure to politely outline which weapons those are and why you feel that way on our forums.

PC Changes/Fixes

Weapon Balance

Percussion Grenade

The Percussion Grenade has received the following changes:

    Stamina damage has been reduced from 350 to 200
    Explosion radius has been reduced slightly from 5.5 meters to 5 meters.
    The radius in which the Percussion grenade deals its maximum damage has been reduced from 3 meters to 2 meters.

Percussion grenades had their radius reduced to encourage accurate throws over spamming them. Users now need to be more precise if they wish to do full damage. The stamina damage was also reduced to prevent combining the explosion with Stabba - PIG in order to achieve a near instant stun of the enemy player.

Stabba - PIG

The Stabba - PIG has received the following change:

    Stamina damage has been increased from 675 to 750.

Due to percussion grenades having their stamina damage reduced, the stamina damage of Stabba - PIG has been increased once again.

R-2 ‘Harbinger’

The R-2 ‘Harbinger’ has received the following changes:

    It will no longer drastically decrease your accuracy when switching to it.
    The delay before bloom begins to recover has been reduced slightly going from 0.34 to 0.32 seconds.
    Its Health damage has been increased from 250 to 280.
    It has also had a slight reduction in it’s equip time going from 1.0 seconds to 0.8 seconds.

R-2 ‘Harbinger’ will no longer be very inaccurate when switching to it. The recovery delay has also been decreased slightly, allowing for a lower time to kill at max range. The damage was also buffed, which increases overall efficiency and makes missing shots less punishing. Finally, the equip time was also reduced, increasing the overall versatility.

Colby M-1922 (Tommy Gun)

The Colby M-1922 has received the following change:

    Overall recoil reduced by 50%.

The overall recoil of the Colby M-1922 was decreased, which will make it a more viable pick.

Colby PMG

The Colby PMG has received the following change:

    The PMG had its crouch modifier adjusted slightly going from 1.0 to 0.9 and making it so it once again gains a bit of accuracy when crouched.

The PMG will now become more accurate when the user is crouching, thereby creating a tradeoff between mobility and accuracy.

OCA / OCA-SD

The OCA and OCA-SD variants (Whisper not included) have received the following changes:

    The OCA and OCA-SD variants have had their crouch modifier adjusted, going from 0.8 to 0.95. This means that they will no longer gain as much accuracy when crouched.
    The effective range has been adjusted. The dropoff now starts at 17.5 meters rather than 30.
    The dropoff range has also been adjusted, now dealing its minimum damage after 7.5 meters rather than 20 meters. This means these weapons will now deal their minimum damage of 37 damage per shot at 25 meters rather than 50 meters.

Standing in contrast to the PMG, OCA variants are now slightly less accurate when crouching. Combined with their damage drop-off being shortened, so that it now starts dropping off at 17.5 meters, this makes them more appropriate for mobile gunfights.

N-HVR 243 (Scout)

The Scout has received the following changes:

    Its health damage has been reduced slightly down from 600 to 575.
    Its equip time has also been made faster to compensate now sitting at 0.7 seconds rather than 0.8 seconds.

N-HVR 243 had its damage decreased from 600 to 575. This won’t dramatically change the weapon, but will punish the user slightly more for delaying between shots. Hitting the first shot, missing the 2nd, but hitting the 3rd will still result in a kill - but with slightly less room for error. This means accuracy when firing will be paramount. Since damage was reduced slightly, we've given it a faster equip time so you can begin firing that much sooner.

N-HVR 762 (HVR)

The N-HVR 762 has received the following change:

    Its health damage has been reduced slightly down from 800 to 770.

We’ve decreased the damage of N-HVR 762 (HVR) to 770 in order to cut back on the number of 1-shot combinations with secondary weapons.

AR-97 ‘Misery’

The AR-97 ‘Misery’ has received the following changes:

    Its jump modifier has been adjusted slightly so it’s in line with other assault rifles, now sitting at 11 rather than 8.
    The misery had its overall recoil reduced by 40%.

We’ve decreased the overall recoil of the AR-97 ‘Misery’ significantly, but also decreased its jumping accuracy in order to balance out the changes.

Colby RSA

The Colby RSA has received the following changes:

    Its walk modifier has been adjusted from 1.75 to 1.5, meaning that it’ll now lose less accuracy when moving while aiming downsights.
    Its Fire Interval has been made faster. It now sits at 0.88 down from 0.9, making it a 1.76 TTK Revolver.
    Its equip time is now 0.9 seconds down from 1.0 seconds.

Colby RSA is now more accurate when moving while aiming down sights. This should make the gun feel less clunky to use. It is also now capable of shooting faster, and the equip time has been lowered to bring it in line with the ACT 44.

Scoped N-TEC 5

The Scoped N-TEC 5 has received the following changes:

    Its maximum bloom has been reduced significantly down to 1.55 from 2.1.
    Its crouch modifier has been changed from 0.9 to 0.8 making it more accurate while crouched.
    Lastly, the Scoped N-TEC had its Effective Range increased by 5 meters, now sitting at 55 meters rather than 50.

We’ve increased the viability of the Scoped variety of the N-TEC by increasing the accuracy of its full-automatic spray. We’ve also slightly increased its effective range and made it more accurate while crouched to give it a distinct feel from its non-scoped brethren.

Other

We also wanted to call attention to a small addition to the text regarding name changes on ARMAS. We now clarify that the name change option is not designed for capitalization changes. If you would like to make such a change, you will need to purchase 2 separate name changes and completely log out of the game in between each name change.

Fourth Open Beta & Stress Test

As we test the beta client, we continue to run into a bit of a puzzle. Some players report good experiences while others report decreased performance. To tackle this discrepancy, our latest test will not only include a suite of fixes for issues you helped us uncover in our previous beta (characters baking incorrectly, game crashing on clan invite, assorted audio problems), but it will also include some new stat collection in the background to help us uncover which systems are having the most trouble. In addition, we are doing something a little different this time around. Of the issues players reported, one of the biggest was periodic latency in some districts. We have some possible fixes lined up, but to test them we will need as many people on at the same time as we can get. For that reason, our Beta on the weekend of the 21st will be broken in to two parts: a 3-hour stress test on Saturday and a longer Beta window that will run Sunday to Monday.

The 3-hour stress test on Saturday 21st will run from 11-2pm PT. The goal of this test is to get as many players as possible on at the same time and in the same place. To that end, during this test there will only be a single financial district available. We invite you to join us during this window if at all possible. We realize it isn’t quite as exciting as running around during an unrestricted beta test (like we will have on Sunday), but joining us at this time will give us critical data that we can’t easily replicate on our own. It would be a big help! We hope to see you there.

After the 3-hour test, we will have a longer Beta window from Sunday 22nd starting at 9am UTC and running until Monday 23rd at 9am UTC. This longer test will be unrestricted, so all districts will be available. That includes the Social District, where we have a fun little teaser, so be sure to check it out!

As mentioned above, this test weekend is focusing on stat collection and gathering some critical data for the engine upgrade. To that end, we have added some new tools to help with this process. When you exit the client, it will now run and upload dxdiag so we can get a better profile on each machine’s hardware setup. This is still anonymized, but please be aware that we will be grabbing hardware specs and latency logs, so if you experience unusual latency, please be sure to run /latencytest so we can get a detailed snapshot of your issue.

To respect each player’s privacy, we are making this an opt-in process. Upon closing APB, you will see the following popup:

You will be able to review what information is being sent and provide additional comments regarding your experience. We would appreciate it immensely if the APB community could rally together to send us as much information as possible as this data is a critical piece towards solving our intermittent performance issues.

Finally, please be aware that to get as clean a data profile as possible, we have disabled our auto importing process for characters on live. Everyone can still use their normal account info to log in to the Beta, but if you haven’t joined us previously you will have to create a new character to help out with this test. Players who have joined us previously will still have their imported characters, though they may not be updated to reflect any changes on live since they were last scraped.

There is also a known issue where the ability to join a group or clan invite through the on-screen prompt is broken. To accept or decline either group invites or clan invites, use the following commands:

    /groupaccept
    /groupdecline
    /clanaccept
    /clandecline

You can download the Beta client here. (Use right-click and "save link as" if the download does not start automatically).

Leaving feedback

Once you've had a chance to try things out, we'd love to hear from you. We've made a dedicated section on the forums where you can go to let us know what you think, check out our known issues, and leave any bugs you might find. You can check that out here. Please be sure to leave your feedback in this new section and not in the forum's Social District section. There's a lot of stuff to unpack with the Beta, and we want to make sure we hear from every one of you. Posting in the right place will ensure your voice is heard.

Finally, please remember that these Beta tests are part of the process leading to a Full Release. Participating in these tests and letting us know when things work well and when they don't is a critical step towards a fully updated client. Thank you for your patience on this journey, and we hope you will join us for this latest Open Beta window.

Halloween Event 2020

They say that fear is the best spice… or is it supposed to be hunger? As cold winds blow through the streets of San Paro, we can’t say no to some pumpkin spice with the Headless Horseman, Pumpkin Hunting, and Trick and Treat events! Not only will these events return, but we are introducing three new weapon skins, new titles, some additional weapon balance changes, and some community costumes into the Joker Store! It’s a spooky big patch this Wednesday, Oct 21st, so let’s walk through each treat one by one.

New weapon skins

Spell doom for your opponents with three new weapon skins this holiday season! Logging in during the Halloween 2020 event (running from 10-21 to 11-4) will give you the opportunity to choose your favorite from among these two Occult skins:

Bewitching, am I right? But don’t despair! For those who must have both, the other is just a few matches away. Complete 25 matches during the Halloween 2020 event and you will receive the second Occult skin as well.

For those who want something a bit more far out, we are also adding the Spaceman Skin to the Joker Store for 4000JT.

Halloween events & New titles

We have some all new titles for you to record your ghastly deeds. Complete the following to unlock these nightmarish names:

    Play 25 games during the Halloween 2020 event to unlock the title “Bite Sized”
    Become the Headless Horseman to unlock the title “Illegal Revenant”
    Kill 25 enemies as the pumpkin head army to unlock the title “Pale Horse”
    Kill 100 enemies as a survivor to unlock the title “Holiday Spirit”
    Get out alive to unlock the title “Bite Free”

As a reminder, the Halloween events work as follows:

Headless Horseman Event

This event is run in special Halloween districts and the rules for the event are simple:

    Collect pumpkins in Halloween versions of Financial and Waterfront to become the Headless Horseman and start the event.
    The Horseman must kill other players to convert them to their Pumpkin Army.
    Pumpkin Head Soldiers must also kill other players to recruit them into the Pumpkin Army.
    Survivors must avoid being killed until the time runs out.

Pumpkin Hunting

Each set of pumpkins has its own set of rewards for how many you find. Good hunting!

    Purple pumpkins are hidden throughout Financial and Waterfront. Finding a number of them will grant you a prize.
    Orange pumpkins are found in Asylum and destroying those will reward you with a number of different titles.
    Red pumpkins have been carefully hidden throughout Financial and Waterfront. There are fewer red pumpkins than purple, so finding them is going to take keen eyes.

Trick and Treat

Finally, there are two holiday contacts, Trick and Treat, which are located in Waterfront. These special Halloween contacts are only around for a short time, but they can be leveled normally like other contacts. They have rewards that you can only get during this Halloween event from leveling them up!

Halloween mayhem costumes

In addition to the festivities above, we have a few more treats coming your way. On October 28th, we will be adding the winners of the Halloween Mayhem community contest as costume presets you can get from the Joker Store. These presets won’t be customizable, but they will be available for a terrifyingly low 750 Joker Tickets for an entire outfit. Dress up as your favorite winners this Halloween!

Weapon balance

We continue to tweak weapons as promised in our weapon balance post from last month. As before, these changes are part of an ongoing effort to dial weapons into a healthy place. We won’t address every weapon in this pass. This is an iterative process as we continue towards our goal of a dynamic meta where each weapon style has its place.

Colby SNR 850

Colby SNR 850 now requires three shots to kill in order to make it a more viable pick in close range.

    Health Damage: 300 -> 334

OBIR and FFA

The sprint delay of OBIR was reduced to match the time it takes for all three bullets of a burst to fire. This change reduces the clunkiness that some players have reported when using this weapon.

    Sprint Delay: 0.675 -> 0.4

Colby CSG-20

We decreased the stamina damage of Colby CSG-20 to be in line with JG.

    Stamina Damage: 20 -> 11 (231)

R-2 ‘Harbinger’

R-2 ‘Harbinger’ can now fire accurately faster on long range and had its marksmanship movement speed penalty reduced to give it a small bump and make it more competitive.

    Marksmanship Speed: 139 -> 275
    Recovery Delay: 0.45 -> 0.34

Firework Launcher

The damage from the explosion of the Firework Launcher was reduced to the same as the explosion from the Flare Gun. This got accidentally changed during the Dev gun games. This fix brings the Firework Launcher back to its correct value.

    Health Damage: 600 -> 400

Epinephrine Injector

As a result of its recent buff we’ve seen enthusiastic usage of the Epinephrine Injector consumable. To avoid overdosing on too much of a good thing, we’ve increased the cooldown to 90 seconds.

    Cooldown: 45 -> 90

N-TEC-5 and N-TEC-Scope

We have been seeing the N-TEC 5 being used more than we would like. We are slightly decreasing the spraying accuracy to help make room for other assault rifles.

    Shot Modifier Cap: 2.0 -> 2.1

[PC & Console] Mission Impossible Patch Announcement 1.20.0 (1279)

Hello everyone,

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 9/16/2020. The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 6 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

Our PC patch this week covers a number of important changes to the game. First, we are making clothing more accessible by fundamentally reimagining how bundles work and by bringing over 100 clothing items to the Joker Store. Second, we are beginning the process of balancing weapons in APB. Finally, third, we are making changes to Baylan missions based on community feedback. You can read all about these changes in the linked posts above!

With regards to our weapon changes, is important to stress that these are the first step towards establishing a baseline "Meta" that we can build from in the future. Accordingly, this patch may not address weapons that are unused or underpowered at the moment. That doesn't mean they are forgotten. We aim to give every weapon some ability to compete, but to do so we will need your informed feedback. Please spend some time playing with the guns before letting us know how these changes work for you!

PC Changes / Fixes

    Clothing Changes

      Bundles now apply discounts based on owned items.
      Over 100 clothing items have been added to Ophelia in the Joker Store.

        Known Issue - Certain clothing items purchased from the Joker Ticket store can be refurbished but are not able to be traded. The items being untradeable is working as intended. The ability to refurbish them is broken and will be fixed in a subsequent patch.
        Known Issue - Attempting to purchase character bound clothing items with a full inventory will fail but will not produce an error message. This will be fixed in a subsequent patch.

    Weapon Balance

      We applied a first balance pass to bring weapon types in-line with each other.

        Like the OBIR, the FFA was also balanced. Specifics didn't make it in to the above blog post, so we are providing them to you here:

          Bolt timer: false -> true (Nerf)
          Reserve ammo: 240 -> 144 (Nerf)

    Mission Balance

      One of the big takeaways from the community was that, while many of you preferred territory control, you also wanted Baylan missions to be shorter. We reduced the average Baylan mission length to about 10 minutes from 15 minutes by adjusting the amount of points required to win if one team is dominating.
      We also reduced the time it takes to do certain objectives in the game. We have reduced these objectives from 30 seconds to between 15 to 20 depending on the objective.
      We have adjusted most missions related to driving cars around. On average, these missions have been reduced from 10 minutes to 7 minutes.
      All VIP missions have been changed to 23 lives for the attacker and 8 lives for the VIP.
      Stages where attackers are defending objectives have had their time limits adjusted so that multiple objectives are taken into account.
      We have made various adjustments to missions that were missed in previous patches.

Weapon Balance

The 9/16 patch includes many important improvements to the game. Today we will dive into weapons and weapon balance. Before getting into specific details, it is important to stress that what you see here is part of an ongoing effort to dial weapons in to a healthy place. We are committed to cultivating a dynamic meta where each weapon style has a use. We've missed some weapons in the past when we've tackled this issue. It is likely you will see some weapons that aren't addressed this time around either. This is a process we will continue to iterate on, and your feedback is an important part of that process. Please be sure to read our explanations behind each change, try them out, and let us know what you think so that together we can create an improved meta that players can return to with the Engine Upgrade.

Weapon updates

N-TEC 7 'Ursus'

N-TEC 7 'Ursus' is a widely used gun which offers top of the line efficiency at all ranges. Because it currently suffers from few drawbacks, it is crowding out other viable gun choices. For these reasons, we are making the following changes.

Instead of modelling the Ursus after the N-TEC 5, we decided to focus its attention on long range engagements by modelling it after the Scoped N-TEC 5. We did this by decreasing its mobility by making it more inaccurate when moving.

In addition, we reduced the effectiveness of spraying by making the gun more inaccurate after the first few bullets. It will still be functional in close to medium range, but its time to kill will be drastically increased as spraying is now more inaccurate.

    Delay before bloom begins to recover: 0.075 -> 0.085 (Nerf)
    Maximum Bloom: 2.4 -> 2.8 (Nerf)
    Marksman accuracy while moving: 1.2 -> 1.6 (Nerf)

OCA-EW 626

We decided it was necessary to revamp the close-range SMGs starting with the base OCA because of its drastic reduction in usage after previous nerfs. The nerfs to its fire interval and bloom from the previous patch have been completely reverted.

We have also given the OCA additional accuracy when crouched, which permits it to have slightly more range at the cost of mobility. We have decreased the fire interval to give it a better chance of combatting shotguns in close quarters.

    Fire interval: 0.1 -> 0.096 (Buff)
    Recovery per second: 5.15 -> 5.35 (Buff)
    Maximum Bloom: 0.7 -> 0.66 (Buff)
    Accuracy when crouched: 1.0 -> 0.8 (Buff)

OCA-EW 626 'Whisper'

With the OCA changes also affecting the OCA-EW 626 'Whisper' variety, it was important to ensure that this gun still had a special function that made it feel distinct from the base model.

Since Cooling Jacket (a common choice for close range weapons) can't be used on this weapon, we've increased the accuracy of the gun significantly. This allows it to function as a more accurate yet slower variety of the OCA.

In order to not give it too much of an edge, we reduced its effective range to compensate. In combination with the boosted accuracy, this should feel much more consistent compared to the existing Whisper that you know and love.

    Effective Range: 50 -> 30 (Nerf)
    Min damage Range: 55 -> 35 (Nerf)
    Accuracy at 10m: 36 -> 33 (Buff)

Colby PMG

Before going into the changes, it is important to establish the role of the PMG. This gun is meant to be a close-range SMG which may reach into the medium-range at a stretch, but its performance there should be held back by its bloom. This is a role we wish to respect.

To accomplish this, we slightly decreased the PMG's base accuracy and removed the ability to gain additional accuracy when crouched. Because the gun is balanced around its bloom, we felt these were necessary first steps.

Next, we looked at revamping its effective range. Beyond 20 meters, the PMG is now 6 shots to kill, which increases its time to kill. It will continue to drop in damage until 35 meters where it reaches its minimum damage.

The last change is a nerf to the PMG's combination with Cooling Jacket's downside. Because there is a slight nerf to the gun's bloom recovery rate, users will now see a more significant decrease in accuracy when using this modification.

    Accuracy when crouched: 0.8 -> 1.0 (Nerf)
    Accuracy at 10m: 33 -> 34 (Nerf)
    Effective Range: 35 -> 20 (Nerf)
    Min damage Range: 50 -> 35 (Nerf)
    Recovery per second: 7.2 -> 6.9 (Nerf)

Obeya CAP40 'Sergeant'

The Obeya CAP40 'Sergeant' is supposed to be a blend between OCA and PMG. Since we are changing both guns in this patch, we naturally had to change the CAP40 as well.

We found that the gun was punished too hard for utilizing red modifications. To combat this, we slightly increased its accuracy and bloom recovery rate.

    Recovery per second: 4.44 -> 4.5 (Buff)
    Radius at 10m: 37 -> 36 (Buff)

FAR

The major thing we changed about the N-TEC was its close-range spraying accuracy, which was significantly nerfed. We gave FAR the same treatment, nerfing its spraying accuracy to keep it between the STAR 556 and the N-TEC 5.

    Maximum Bloom: 1.45 -> 1.65 (Nerf)

ATAC 424

ATAC is meant to be a gun that is easily accessible which focuses on medium-range engagements but will also function quite well in closer ranged fights. The issue is the effectiveness of its semi long-range sprays in combination with its very short time to kill. Considering this weapon's ease of use, we felt that this gun needed a nerf to its range. The ATAC will now bloom more when spraying to help solidify its identity.

    Effective Range: 50 -> 40 (Nerf)
    Maximum Bloom: 0.5 -> 0.7 (Nerf)

N-TEC 5

We previously nerfed the spraying accuracy of the N-TEC 5. When doing weapon balancing, it's important to look back at past changes and consider how they have developed over time.

In reviewing the gun's performance after the change, we have seen a lot more variety in weapon picks, which is a great outcome. We still want there to be some overlap in terms of close-range efficiency, just not to the degree where secondary weapons become irrelevant or close-range weapons are completely matched. To better accomplish this goal, we decided to slightly rollback the N-TEC 5 spraying accuracy change by 50% to give it a bit more leverage in close-range engagements.

    Maximum Bloom: 2.4 -> 2.0 (Buff)

Colby SNR 850

Switching back and forth between JG and the Colby Snub-Nose Revolver is a problem in close quarters. You can see this frequently come up in Asylum. We are addressing this issue by increasing the equip time to 0.5. This change will keep the timer low while hopefully discouraging this playstyle.

    Equip time: 0.1 -> 0.5 (Nerf)

OBIR

When looking at guns which are effective in all ranges, the OBIR automatically springs to mind. While the gun is meant to be focused on long-range engagements, it is also very capable of being used in close range by "quick switching" between the OBIR and a secondary to finish off the enemy. This is an issue because it allows the OBIR to suddenly compete with dedicated close-range weapons.

Because we want to preserve areas where each of our weapon types can excel, we are implementing the bolt timer, which is used on guns like the N-HVR to prevent switching weapons until it's able to fire again, on the OBIR. On top of this change, we are also decreasing the ammo pool of the OBIR to match the magazines of the Obeya CR762.

    Bolt timer: false -> true (Nerf)
    Reserve ammo: 240 -> 144 (Nerf)

Stabba - PIG

The combination of Percussion Grenades and the PIG can be oppressive. By lowering the stamina damage of the PIG from 950 to 675, we are forcing users to hit their percussion grenade more accurately and follow up the throw with a shot from the PIG faster. This should preserver the strategy but make the combination require more skill to pull off.

    Stamina damage: 950 -> 675 (Nerf)

N-HVR 243 'Scout'

N-HVR 243 'Scout' is a rare sight due to its high time to kill and low damage. If the second shot misses, or if it takes a while to follow up the first one, the enemy will have regenerated enough health to avoid death.

To facilitate more usage of the Scout, we have increased its damage from 550 to 600. With the new damage increase, we've included a corresponding increase in the equip time to avoid "quick switching" from becoming an issue.

    Damage per shot: 550 -> 600 (Buff)
    Equip time: 0.6 -> 0.8 (Nerf)

N-HVR 762

The ability to force the enemy player out of the match with a single shot doesn't make for a good experience.

To help combat this, we have lowered the damage of the HVR to 800. While this might seem like a small change, our testing showed that this keeps the gun relevant while allowing damaged players to rejoin the fight faster and with less fear of immediate follow up.

    Damage per shot: 850 -> 800 (Nerf)

S1-NA 'Manic'

The Manic functions as a highly mobile close-range gun which is capable of reaching into mid-range by controlling the recoil. With its low fire interval and high damage, the Manic is able to kill players in a lower than average time to kill.

To bring it more in-line with other options, we've decreased the accuracy of the Manic while jumping to hinder its close-range capabilities a small amount. Its damage has also been decreased, which results in a slightly higher time to kill. Finally, we've also increased the maximum bloom to mitigate its long-range effectiveness.

    Accuracy while jumping: 2.2 -> 4.4 (Nerf)
    Damage per shot: 115 -> 110 (Nerf)
    Maximum Bloom: 0.6 -> 0.725 (Nerf)

Joker SR-15 Carbine

The Joker SR-15 Carbine used to be an extremely popular pick a few years back. Later patches decreased its efficiency by nerfing its base accuracy and how quickly it would regain accuracy. This led to the gun being a rare sight compared to alternatives like the OSCAR.

We decided to bring the Carbine back into the spotlight again by decreasing the inaccuracy per shot. This should make the gun a lot more viable for skilled marksmen and should allow it to compete with the OSCAR once again. We've also added 2 more magazines to the ammo capacity to keep it in the game for longer.

    Bloom per shot: 0.23 -> 0.20 (Buff)
    Reserve ammo: 100 -> 140 (Buff)

ACT 44

Since we made changes to long-range secondary weapons, we've observed much more balanced play, but with less variety in picks. This means that we are on the right track, but need to now do more specific tweaks to increase the pool of viable options.

By decreasing the range of the ACT 44 by 10 meters, we are solidifying the identity of both the ACT 44 and the RSA. The ACT 44 will now shine as the more swift and mobile alternative in the long-range secondary category. To help accomplish this, we have increased the ACT 44's equip time to make it equal to the RSA.

    Effective range: 70 -> 60 (Nerf)
    Equip time: 0.6 -> 0.9 (Nerf)

Colby RSA

In contrast to the ACT 44, the RSA trades mobility for a much longer range. To help better define the role of the RSA as a less mobile option, we have also decreased the accuracy of the weapon while moving. In this role, the RSA was held back by its very large bloom recovery delay which made subsequent shots after the first much harder to land. We have reduced the bloom recovery delay to allow for faster repeat shots down range. This decrease in bloom recovery was enough of a buff that we also needed to reduce the fire interval slightly to keep both guns competitive with each other.

    Fire interval: 0.85 -> 0.9 (Nerf)
    Delay before bloom begins to recover: 0.5 -> 0.3 (Buff)
    Accuracy while walking: 1.2 -> 1.75 (Nerf)
    Accuracy while running (not sprint): 2 -> 2.5 (Nerf)

N-ISSR-B

In the Mission Impossible patch, we nerfed the N-ISSR-B's hard damage to make it less effective against vehicles. The mixture between mobility and hard damage was simply too much for one gun. This change resulted in more variety of anti-vehicle weapons seeing use.

While we're happy with the direction of the original change, the ISSR-B should still be able to pose some threat to vehicles. We've decided to scale back the nerf by slightly increasing the hard damage.

    Hard damage per shot: 0.17 -> 0.19 (Buff)

Jump Shooting Changes

A few months back we nerfed the jump shooting capability of the N-TEC 5. This was met with some resistance due to the fact that this gun in particular now suffered a significant disadvantage compared to other assault rifles such as the FAR.

Assault rifles should work in close range - with a lot of effort and a bit of luck.

Accurate jump shooting allows assault rifles to have too much overlap in close range, where secondaries should be used instead. We are applying the same jump shooting nerf to all assault rifles depending on the functionality of the gun.

    STAR: (10->25) (Nerf)
    FAR: (10->25) (Nerf)
    ATAC: (6.5->18) (Nerf)
    COBR-A: (7->12) (Nerf)

Ammo Capacity Changes

We've done a pass on the ammo capacity of weapons and matched the values to the sizes of their magazines. This won't be a groundbreaking change, but it will make it so guns have full magazines in reserve.

    Obeya CR762: 100 -> 105 (Buff)
    Colby M-1922: 280 -> 300 (Buff)
    R-2 Harbinger: 25 -> 28 (Buff)
    NFAS True Ogre: 84 -> 90 (Buff)
    RHD LS1 Corsair: 32 -> 35 (Buff)
    SBSR Rifle: 35 -> 32 (Nerf)
    SBSR Sniper: 35 -> 32 (Nerf)
    FAR Reserve ammo: 128 -> 120 (Nerf)

We hope you appreciate this in-depth dive on these upcoming weapons changes and our reasoning. Try them out and let us know how they work for you. Be sure to leave your feedback in a polite manner on our forums or the new official Little Orbit discord. We look forward to hearing from you!

Style Month

If you've been hanging out around the forums, you know that September is Style Month here in APB, and we are now ready to sashay off the runway. While we remain laser focused on the Engine Upgrade, we continue to evaluate each system in APB and ask ourselves if it meets the standards of a modern day game, so that when players do return they have more than graphics to check out. That is why we are happy to announce that Joker Gunworks is ready for their next renovation... of both their store and your closets! With our 9/16 patch, we are making killer fashion more accessible than ever in APB by fundamentally reimagining how bundles work and by bringing over 100 clothing items to the Joker Store!

Let's take a look!

Fashion to die in

We are bringing over 100 clothing items from ARMAS to the Joker Store (see How It Works for details)! We want everyone to be able to enjoy the best of what APB has to offer, and part of what makes APB great is our unique clothing and customization system. Giving both veterans and new players the ability to purchase clothing items with Joker Tickets is a huge step towards that goal.

Bundle of fun

Ever since we took over APB, clothing bundles have been a constant source of feedback. We often get two questions:

    Can a player buy an individual item outside the bundle itself?
    Can a player get a discount on the bundle if they already own some of the items?

The good news is that we have made an attempt to address both of these long-standing issues.

Let's take Hightop shoes, for example:

In ARMAS, these shoes are often bundled in large packages like the Urban RX Bundle. While this is a good deal if you want everything in the bundle, if you only want the shoes things can get a bit pricy. We've identified over 50 exciting items like the Hightop and made sure you will be able to get them as single purchases now.

Next, we took a look at the bundles themselves. We have designed a new system that dynamically checks your owned items when you make a bundle purchase. It will now automatically apply a discount based on the items you already own! There are a few more improvements to bundles that you can read all about in our How It Works overview, but the big takeaway is that, with our 9/16 patch, you never need to worry about what you own when purchasing bundles ever again!

Chat in style

Before we dive into Joker Store specifics, we also want to call out that we are now opening the official Little Orbit discord to everyone! If you would like to chat about these upcoming changes or just APB in general, feel free to stop on by and say hi.

How it works

Starting September 16th, when you go into the Joker Store, Ophelia will be offering some killer classics for you to choose from:

Purchasing clothing and accessories works the same way as our renovated gun purchases - you select the item you want from the list and purchase it for the Joker Ticket price. That item will then be permanently unlocked on your character and a copy of that item will go into your inventory. If you ever need to purchase the item again, the price will be in APB$ instead of Joker Tickets. You can purchase as many copies in this way as you want.

In addition to single-item offerings, we also have a number of our bundles for you to bling out with! These purchases work slightly differently, so let's walk through them now:

Bundles offer discounts for those wanting to put together a specific look quickly. You can grab several items together for 20% off the individual price. Selecting a bundle will give you full details on the items included as well as the opportunity to view them in more detail. The full discount is listed at the bottom.

Because bundles can have a large number of items in them, they aren't granted to your inventory directly like with single item purchases. Instead, purchasing a bundle will make each item available for APB$. Don't worry, even though you'll have to spend APB$ to get the actual item, the bundles also include enough APB$ for you to grab everything in it once. This saves inventory space and ensures that you don't end up with a bunch of items that you don't need right away.

If you happen to already own some of the items included in a bundle, Ophelia has got you covered in style! Our bundles will update dynamically and reduce the price for each item in them which you already own.

Grab all the bundles you like and rest assured you are always getting the best price!

[PC & Console] Mission Impossible Patch Announcement 1.20.0 (1270)

Hello everyone,

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 8/19/2020. The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 4 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

As we discussed last week, this patch is focused primarily on addressing bugs from the Mission Impossible patch. We corrected a few things that slipped through the first time around. In addition to these bugfixes, we are squeezing in a QoL change which allows players to toggle off death themes if they prefer. This will give players more control over griefing scenarios where /ignore is not enough. Finally, we snuck in a few small improvements to mission timers as well as made it so the Boombox can have 100% uptime for all our players who want to rock out all the time.

PC Changes / Fixes

    Fixed a bug which caused the client to have larger than normal garbage collection times. This is the issue that is currently being seen on live as periodic hitching.
    Added in a duration for mods that were previously missing.
    Fixed a bug related to Med Spray not working as intended. Regeneration should now start correctly when activated.
    Fixed a bug that made it so Resupply Box would not allow changing of loadouts.
    Added an option in the settings menu which will allow for globally disabling death themes.
    Increased the duration of Boombox from 45s -> 60s
    Made various changes to mission timers.

[PC & Console] Mission Impossible Patch Announcement 1.20.0 (1265)

Hello everyone,

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 8/5/2020. We are posting our notes a little early this week because there are a lot of changes to cover this time around (see overview for more details). The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 6 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

Our PC patch this week deals primarily with missions. Since Little Orbit took over, there has been a lot of talk about mission balance. We have been carefully listening to everyone's feedback and noting areas of improvement for some time now, but since Missions are the core of APB, these weren't changes we wanted to rush into. Any modifications to these core systems needed a strong understanding of APB gameplay and how everything fits together. As such, that is how we would like to frame this discussion: holistically. We are going to cover each of our goals for missions in a general sense before diving into the specifics in the changelog.

This first mission pass is intended to provide as much improvement as possible to the APB player's experience without fundamentally changing any of the existing missions you know and love. Our efforts here were focused on reducing pain points, like unwieldy timers, odd group sizes for missions, or awkward objectives. We wanted our missions to flow. Additionally, we wanted to introduce as many opportunities for counter-play as we could to emphasize opportunities for skillful and exciting back and forth between players.

Another area we knew we could improve upon is novelty. Many of our hardcore players have done the same set of missions thousands of times. In order to add some variety, we've gone back and found 50 missions that were previously disabled, added them back to the available mission pool, and updated them all to current mission standards. This means that, in addition to improved gameplay flow, there are also now many more missions to experience in any one gameplay session.

Finally, our third area is balance. With so many different missions and objectives, it was important to us that each felt as fair as possible to either side. Many of our timing, point, and grouping changes were in service to this goal.

There are many more changes than we have space to cover here or which can neatly fit into our three main pillars of Mission Flow, Mission Novelty, and Mission Balance. We will include a more detailed list of these changes in the change log below, but we encourage you to try them out for yourselves when the patch goes live. An important part of this process of improving APB is community feedback, so be sure to let us know what you think once you've gotten a chance to play!

PC Changes / Fixes

Mission Changes

    We've manually adjusted stage timers and point totals to account for various mission factors. Some examples include:

      Number of objectives
      Distance between objectives
      Size of task items (Small, Medium, Large)
      Objective location (Streets, Satellites, Open Areas)

    Final stage timers and point totals for stages that have points have been reworked to focus more on point totals and less on timers.
    Bonus time missions now end early when unopposed to prevent stage time pooling. Bonus time based missions now begin with a larger timer.
    Stage timers have been normalized when swapping between attack and defend stages.
    Missions where the first stage involves three objectives have had their stage timers increased to prevent the defenders from having an immediate advantage.
    Moved all VIP/Escort missions to a minimum group size of 3.
    Re-evaluated the minimum group sizes for every mission in the game.
    50 previously disabled missions have been added back into the available mission pool and are updated to current mission standards.

Modification Changes

    Turned Mobile Cover into an Orange Character Modification and reduced its HP value slightly, 650 HP -> 600 HP
    High Burn Fuel will now reduce Vehicle HP by 15%, in addition to its current effect.

Consumable Changes

    Reduced the current HP damage of Epinephrine Injector from 50% damage -> 25% damage.
    Med Spray now also doubles your base HP regeneration in addition to its previous effect
    Renamed Resupply Box (Large) -> Resupply Box
    Resupply Box is now a medium size item
    Resupply Box has all the same functionality of the current Resupply Box (Large)
    Added Consumables into Wilde's shop in Social at the following prices:

      Epinephrine Injector - 5 charges for 2,000 APB$
      Med Spray - 5 charges for 2,000 APB$
      Resupply Box - 5 charges for 2,000 APB$
      Satchel Charge - 5 charges for 2,000 APB$
      Boom Box - 10 charges for 2,000 APB$

    Changed how cooldowns work for deployables. The Cooldown starts right away, and the item will now last for a set amount of time unless destroyed:

      Mobile Cover (orange mod)

        Cooldown: 120s
        Duration: 60s

      Resupply Box

        Cooldown: 180s
        Duration: 90s

      Boombox

        Cooldown: 60s
        Duration: 45s

      Changes to remove the use duration on Spotter, Epinephrine Injector, Blowtorch and Med Spray will be coming in a subsequent patch

Weapon Changes

    Reduced Blowtorch healing rate by 46%

      Hard damage dealt: -8.8 -> -5.6

    Reduced Blowtorch ammo capacity from 800 -> 350
    Reduced AAEPD 'Volcano JC' max hard damage from 1227 -> 800
    Reduced ISSR-B hard damage from 72.9 -> 45
    Reduced ISSR-A hard damage from 70.1 -> 51
    Reduced SWARM hard damage from 50.7 -> 40.95

Car Changes

    Modified the HP values for cars in the following way:

      Bishada: 900 -> 1,150 (HBF 977)
      Jericho: 1,100 -> 1,150 (HBF 977)
      Vegas 4x4: 1,350 -> 1,150 (HBF 977)
      Vegas: 1,350 -> 1300 (HBF 1,105)
      Pioneer: 1,600 -> 1,350 (HBF 1,147)
      Espacio: 1,600 -> 1,350 (HBF 1,147)
      Growl: 950 -> 1150 (HBF 977)
      Mikro 900 -> 950 (HBF 807)
      Varzuga variants 900 -> 950 (HBF 807)

    Modified the Cargo Space for the following vehicles:

      Mikro: 4 -> 5
      Vaquero: 4 -> 5
      Rally Varzuga: 4 -> 5
      Han Coywolf: 2 -> 5

8/4 Additions

    Increased the Cooldown for Remote Detonator from 0s -> 90s
    The new Mobile Cover Orange mod will be available from the Joker Store for 100 JT

Second Open Beta

Today, we are happy to announce that we are ready to run a second Open Beta test on Saturday the 1st. Our engineers have been combing through the code, and you should now be able to log in properly.

For those of you who joined us for our first test on June 27th, you know that we uncovered an issue with our login server. Essentially, when we got a large volume of logins importing characters from live, our database ports were being improperly reserved, which prevented many users from being able to get in successfully. This is the exact kind of issue that we can only uncover though large-scale community testing, so we want to thank everyone who joined us once again. We couldn't do this without your help!

Our second Open Beta will run from 11am-2pm Pacific on Saturday, August 1st, with most of the logistical details for this test identical to the first test. It will have two districts available for you to use - Social and Asylum. To join, you will need to download the Beta client here and log in using your existing APB account. Please note that we will continue to update the client as we gear up for this test. If you have a limited connection, you may want to hold off downloading the client until Friday.

The first time you enter, we will copy over your characters from Live so you can try out the build for yourself.

Here are some things to remember when playing the Open Beta:

    When selecting a district, the client will automatically connect you to the region with the best ping for you. If you want to change your region manually, you can do so by going to the "advanced tab." Players from Jericho and Citadel can mix and match on any server they want.
    The numbers you use for mouse sensitivity and handling in the Live client will not be the same as what you need to use in the Beta. Because numbers scale differently in the new client, we can't give you a 1:1 conversion for your settings. Please experiment and find what numbers feel best for you.
    Finally, please remember that this is a Beta! Things will break. In fact, we hope you guys will help us stress the heck out of this build. Every issue you find and report brings us one step closer to the Full release, so please be sure to get us all your feedback on the forums. Below are some instructions on where and how to do that in a constructive manner.

Legendary Beta

You've already read about our 10th anniversary celebration. Now, we want to make the last two very big announcements that will coincide with that event. To start, we are fundamentally changing our monetization model by removing JMBs and allowing you to rent and obtain Legendaries with in-game Joker Tickets. Alongside these changes, we are going to start the public Open Beta for the new engine on Saturday, June 6/27. Be sure to read to the end of this post to catch it all!

On 6/10, Joker Gunworks started renovating gun rentals, but there's one legendary surprise they saved for last!

After our last update, you may have spotted Anne Partridge lurking around the Joker Store. She's been on the run from RedHill and keeping things quiet, but now she's ready to don her uniform and trade her hacking skills in for Joker Gunworks' protection.

Starting June 24, when you go into the Joker Store, Anne will be your official liaison for all those black-market deals Joker would prefer to keep off the books. She's been hacking shipments to secure more of the prototype parts and weapons they use to supply Legendaries to the public, so now she can make them available for valued Joker Gunworks customers to rent all the time.

Let's take a look!

There are a few things to note about this new menu. First, you can now rent Legendaries with Joker Tickets directly from the in-game Joker Store instead of going through ARMAS. Paying the rental price will unlock the Legendary for 7 days, which means you can try them out and see what matches your playstyle the best.

Anne likes repeat business and she likes to tease her customers. Occasionally, she'll make a "mistake" and not log that you rented the gun. Then you get to keep it for good. This means that, each time you rent from her, you have a 5% chance to permanently unlock that same Legendary for good. Once it's yours, that character can keep it, trade it, or sell it - whatever you want!

But what happens if you don't get lucky?

Don't worry, Anne has you covered! If you test a Legendary enough times, she'll give you the gun anyway as thanks for all the valuable field data you've collected. Here's how it works:

You may have noticed those green bars in the first menu we showed you. With Joker Gunworks' rental loyalty program, each rental where you don't get a permanent drop will fill that green bar slightly. Once a bar is completely full (around 20 rentals without a permanent unlock), your next rental is a guaranteed permanent drop! Whenever you get a permanent version, the bar is reset. For the first time ever, players can save up Joker Tickets to play with Legendaries!

As part of this change, we are finally retiring the Joker Mystery Boxes from ARMAS. We are moving away from loot boxes that never guarantee anything and often result in junk rewards you didn't want. Starting June 24th, if you want to speed things up, you can directly purchase bundles of Joker Tickets from ARMAS at a rate of 100G1C for 500JT.

As a thank you for your support, you get a bonus 1% chance at a permanent Legendary gun from the entire pool for each 500 Joker Tickets that you purchase this way. The advantage of this system is that we get to keep the jackpot moments that you guys love with absolutely no downside. You will always get the exact value for your money, and if you don't get the bonus, you can still use those Joker Tickets you purchased to get the exact Legendary that you want.

We hope that this new system will empower both new and old players to progress the way they want in APB. Whether you build up Joker Tickets through play or support us directly through purchases, all our guns now have a path for you to rent, try, and eventually own.

We are finally ready to open the Beta client to you all!

Our first Open Beta will run from 11am-2pm Pacific on Saturday, June 27th.

A quick peek

If you didn't get a chance to watch the public stream in April, here are some screenshots from the current Beta build to help tide you over until the 27th.

In just one short week, that can be you!

This beta test is just one stop on our road to a Full Release, but it is an important one. Thank you for your patience on this journey, and we hope you will join us for this latest milestone

APB 10th Anniversary

This June marks the 10th anniversary of APB. For those of you who are new and for those of you who have stuck with us for the full 10 years, thank you so much for being here and enjoying our game. It hasn't always been a smooth road, but we are in this together and we are incredibly excited for what's on the horizon. Internally, we have been working on improving player experience by making the Joker Store a more powerful and accessible way to experiment with the vast range of unique gunplay we have here at APB, and while we move as fast as we can on the engine upgrade, in the meantime we have been making a concentrated effort to connect with our players.

We have a public contest open now where you can design one of our upcoming contacts for the Joker Store renovation, and our CEO, Matt Scott, has been jumping in to the forums to speak directly with you all. For example, if you missed it, we recently completed an AMA on r/APB, where we shared some of the nitty-gritty behind our vision for the game. So, with all this in mind, we wanted to celebrate how far we've come and the exciting places we plan to go with APB.

The party starts on June 24th and will run until July 8th. Everyone who logs in during this time will be granted a set of our 10th anniversary clothing.

If you'd like to make your own, we will also be making the special decals and symbols used to make these items available in the newly renovated Joker Store!

10th Anniversary Gun Games

In celebration of our anniversary and the ongoing renovations to the Joker Store, the Joker Corporation has pulled out all the stops. They've rented out the entire Beacon district as part of the festivities and are sponsoring a special suite of gun games they are calling...

From June 24th until July 8th, you can play non-stop gun games in the Beacon district. That's right, we have a special district just for gun games, complete with festive decorations and an automatic rotation that will fire whenever there are at least 10 people available to play! Since these gun games are on demand, they will have a slightly smaller payout than we have done in the past (30, 40, and 50 JT depending on your performance) and there will be a special 500 JT daily cap for rewards earned in this district. This means that everyone will have a chance to farm up some tickets for the exciting Joker Store renovations we have coming our way.

As for the gun games themselves, you will see some of the classics as well as a new gun game mode made specially for this event! What makes this gun game so special? Well to start, there are some unique guns made exclusively for this gun game which will be making an appearance. They do some truly crazy things, but to find out what you will just have to join and find out! Using these weapons to play in the special gun game will also unlock one-of-a-kind titles, like Dev Gun Fodder, Weapon Tester?, and Guinea Pig.

See you all there!

Dev stream with Matt Scott

As part of the festivities, we will also be having a Dev Stream with Matt on 6/24 at 11am Pacific | 8pm CEST. Come join us on the Little Orbit twitch channel as Matt showcases some of the Joker Store renovations still to come before jumping into the Beacon Bash for some gun game fun! Matt will also be announcing the winners of our Joker Employee Design Challenge live on stream, so if you've made a submission, you'll want to catch the show. Whether you want to play against Matt or simply chill in the stream and ask some questions, make sure to save the date!

Joker Store Renovations

You may have seen Redhill sponsoring Joker Ticket events over the past few months. Well, now Joker Corp is flush with cash and ready to expand! They are hiring more employees and getting ready for some major moves in San Paro... and they want everyone to know about it. Renovations are scheduled to start on 6/10 and complete on 6/24, so save the date and be on the look-out for special surprises and some in-game festivities in late June.

But that's not all! Renovations start this week and the Joker Store is about to get 'Wilde', so let's run down what's coming in-game on 6/10:

The first thing you will notice is the green "Trial Available" line under each gun. Every gun now has a once-per-character trial that lets everyone try it out for free! The next thing you will notice is the line under Price saying "At least..." followed by some number of Joker Tickets. This indicates that each gun in this menu is no longer a single entry within the store. If you select one of these guns, you will be taken to a new menu that displays all the different ways you can acquire the gun.

Using the Hoplite as an example, you can see that it still has its free trial available. If you wanted to, you could select this trial and try out the gun for 6 hours to help decide if you enjoy how it plays. If you do, you can come back and grab the gun 3 different ways. You can unlock it temporarily, either a week or a month at a time, or you can unlock the gun permanently so you will always have access.

Most importantly, you no longer need to keep new Joker Store guns in your inventory! Now you can always repurchase a permanently unlocked gun for APB$. You can see here that the Coroner's purchase price is no longer listed in Joker Tickets. Once permanently unlocked, it can be purchased as many times as you want for APB$ equal to the Joker Ticket purchase price!

IMPORTANT: This will only initially apply to items purchased from the Joker Store on the 10th and beyond. We are still working on adding this functionality to past purchases, but that is not yet available at this time. The renovations are ongoing!

Joker Corp is just getting started, so be sure to keep an eye out as they continue to shake things up in San Paro.

Anti-cheat update

Hi all,

We're going to be making a change to the anti-cheat soon, and I want to walk the community through it instead of brushing it under the rug.

I'll start with why we are no longer sticking with Easy Anti-Cheat.

When we negotiated the deal with Kamu (Epic Games), the service was supposed to be client and server side. The critical reason for moving was their management tools and the server side piece which we didn't get with BattlEye. However, we also agreed to pay more to get that. The client side integration was fairly smooth, but the server side integration hit immediate snags. We spent months trying different configurations with the networks to get them talking properly, and when that didn't work, both sides dedicated programming support to fix the issues. When it still didn't work, we started exploring other ways to possibly fix it, but Kamu said based on our concurrency we wouldn't like get good results anyway. More recently I was finally contacted by their head of development with the news that they could no longer justify the resources to finish the server side integration. So then we attempted to work out a reduction in pricing. But we couldn't come to a compromise, so we have mutually decided to end the agreement.

Clearly, we will need to keep evaluating server side solutions or build our own, because I have yet to see one that works well enough.

During my discussions with various providers, I also went back to BattlEye. Their solution has had some nice improvements since we left, so we're going to give that a try again.

Next I want to talk about the current cheating issues in APB.

While we do have some private cheats for EAC floating around, I will say that is still in the low single digit percentages for our entire population. However, we do have a problem right now with scripted triggerbots and aimbots. These are an entirely different category of cheat, because they are typically built with the hot key/mouse scripting systems. They are easy to spot, but they are easy to false positive. There are many legitimate uses for scripting systems, and players don't often realize they are enabled by default when they enter the game.

With all of that in mind, once we switch to BattlEye we are going to start taking measures against the systems that these cheats are written in. This may be a little bumpy, and I guarantee some players will not read the forums and find themselves very frustrated. But I am taking this step to let all of you to know in advance, that you need to disable your macros and hot key / mouse scripting systems.

Anti-cheat will always a work in progress.

We will continue to iterate on this.

We need a level playing field for players to have fun.

Thanks,

Matt

Open Beta AMA

Hello everyone,

This is Matt. As I've mentioned in our Engine Update posts, Sunday 5/10/20 marked the TWO-year anniversary of Little Orbit taking on APB Reloaded. It's a little cliché, but it does feel like that time has flown by. It's been a lot of learning for us, and a lot of hard work, but I feel like we have also made a lot of progress. In April, we showed off a playable version of 2.1 Beta build together with our APB streaming community. You can check out the highlight video and Q&A right now if you haven't already:

Since then, we have been continuing to focus on optimizing the beta and running a number of closed stress tests to get out all the kinks and prepare things for you all. We are not quite ready to open things to the public just yet, but I think we are getting really close! If you aren't doing so already, be sure to keep an eye on our Engine Upgrade Thread and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news about our Beta client progress.

Since we are zeroing on a public beta client stress test, I wanted to take a moment and make myself available to the community a little more directly.

I will be joining /r/APB on Reddit for an AMA on May 30th at 11am Pacific to answer any questions you might have. The open beta stress test (and when that might be) is certainly a big topic, but we won't be limiting ourselves to a specific subject. Feel free to ask away!

I appreciate all the patience you have shown for us to get to this point. I can't wait to have you guys try out our hard work for yourselves.

Thanks,

Matt

Premium Extension

For those of you who follow the forums, you may already know that Matt Scott decided to grant everyone premium for free in an effort to help make keeping safe at home a little more enjoyable. As it looks like many of us will continue to stay inside for the time being, we are extending this free premium to the end of May! We hope you enjoy this small token as we all do the work of keeping each other safe.

If you have any question about this extension, please check out this post before submitting a ticket to support. Thanks!

Permanent Joker Ticket Increase

Finally, in March and April we ran the Joker Madness event which tripled Joker Ticket rewards in Action Districts and doubled their drop rates. We have been watching these numbers closely, and we are happy to announce that we feel like they are in a good place. As such, we are making these Joker Ticket increases permanent! Now you can enjoy better Joker Ticket rewards whenever you play.

We also have some Joker Store changes in the works. Look for those in our next update.

Engine Upgrade - Beta Stream Announcement

Hi everyone,

6 months ago I decided that the community had been kept in the dark too long about the Engine Upgrade. In development all kinds of things can and do happen, and even the best teams run into issues and blockers.

So to help pull back the curtain, I started posting a dev diary of sorts focusing on our weekly progress. If you haven't been following it, you can check it out here: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/11333-tracking-the-engine-upgrade/

This week there is no update - at least not on the engine itself. Instead we are going to try something different with the community.

On Friday, April 17, 2020 at 11am PST we have invited a number of APB streamers to show off the new Beta live. Over the coming week, we'll be posting a list of Twitch channels that will be participating so you can support your favorite.

Each streamer will start with some quick benchmarks on their system from APB 1.20 (Live). Then they will load up the Beta and do another quick series of benchmarks before jumping into a couple Fight Club matches on Asylum with our dev team. Everyone will have codes and goodies to give away, and they will be gathering your questions and comments to give me for later.

After about an hour all of the feeds will hand everyone off to the Little Orbit Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/littleorbit), where I'll do my best to answer your questions and talk a bit more indepth about the upgrade and the upcoming timeline.

This was a bit difficult to manage, because many of these are controversial figures in the community, but I didn't want to get into the politics of approving or denying streamers. The idea behind this is to allow the community to take a good look at the game with your favorite streamer. You can choose to watch any of these, so let's not flame this thread with criticism. This is a big milestone for the game. Let's enjoy it!

Here is the list:

Here is a thread on the forums to post your feedback: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/13646-engine-upgrade-beta-stream-announcement/

Thanks,

Matt

Into The Hopper - Beta Info

Hello everyone,

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 4/1/2020. The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 4 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

This is a big patch, and there are many things to tease out of it, from our Easter event to adding a guaranteed 100 Joker Tickets to every Joker Mystery Box.

First, we wanted the ensure that there were no feel bad moments with our Joker Ticket drops, so we made it impossible to get 0 JT from doing opposed missions. Please note that you will still get your other rewards from doing missions, but that currently the reward UI will only show JT at this time. This is a known bug, and we are already working on a fix.

Second, we have disabled the Radar Tower Car Mod. When it was originally brought to our attention that this mod was not working correctly, we did an extensive deep dive on what was wrong with the mod and how it functioned. After doing our initial investigation, we decided that the mod, while broken at times, was not exploitable. However, in recent weeks it has come to our attention that there is, in fact, a way to exploit this mod, so we are going to be disabling it for the time being. The choice to disable this mod is not one we make lightly, but we feel it is the best choice at this time. Fixing the mod now would take crucial engineer time away from the 2.1 Engine Upgrade and delay critical projects like our upcoming Beta test. Disabling the mod was the best way we could preserve your play experience while keeping these projects on track. We will revisit this mod in the future to get it working correctly again as soon as we are able.

    Added the 2020 Easter Event

Into The Hopper - Beta Info

We have a lot of exciting news to share with you this month, from new guns for the Joker Ticket store to new Eastern European servers which are on their way. We have our upcoming Easter Event, an extension of Joker Madness, and some news on our upcoming APB 2.1 beta test. We have so many things to share, in fact, that we are starting the party a little early. Here is your “April” download with all the cool things coming with our next patch!

The Madness continues

In March, we introduced the Joker Madness event. This event tripled Joker Ticket rewards in Action Districts and doubled their drop rates. Since then, we have been closely monitoring both the economy and player feedback on this event. We are quite happy with both, so we will be extending the March Madness drop rates! Not only that, but we are upping the Joker Ticket floor as well. With the next patch, it will no longer be possible to get 0 Joker Tickets as a reward, and consumables will drop independently of Joker Tickets. We hope this change will make gaining Joker Tickets feel smoother for everyone.

100 JT in Every Joker Mystery Box!

When we relased JMB 23, we gave it a guarenteed 100 Joker Ticket value. Matt spoke briefly about these changes, and mentioned that this was one small step towards reworking the JMB system. We want to remove some of the random elements from this system, and adding guarenteed tickets was a way for us to work towards that goal while keeping our engineers focused on the engine upgrade.

We have been happy with the results so far, so with our next patch we will be extending the 100 guarenteed Joker Tickets to all Joker Mystery Boxes! We hope you enjoy this nice bonus while we continue to work on JMBs in the future.

New guns in the Joker Ticket store

With all the new ways for you to get Joker Tickets, we wanted to make sure even long-time players had something fun to spend their tickets on. That is why, with this new patch, we will be adding 17 new guns to the Joker Store. Not only that, but two of these guns will be Joker Store exclusives:

Both the Colby Classic (a skinnable version of the Colby Commander legendary without the legendary mod) and the Joker C9S EX-III JT2 PR1 (a silenced C9) will be unique to the Joker Ticket store. With more guns avaliable through play, this will give players of all levels more things to enjoy.

New servers

We also wanted to let you know that we are adding some new servers in Warsaw to better serve our Eastern European players. We don’t have an exact ETA as to when they will be live given the state of the world right now, but they have been ordered and are on their way. We will keep you guys informed as we learn more.

Unreal 3.5 engine upgrade (APB 2.1)

If you haven’t been following along with our Engine Upgrade Thread already, we have a few important pieces of news for you. First, is that a beta test of the client is in the works. We don’t have an exact date for the beta test just yet, but it will run for a weekend and initially be limited to Social and Asylum districts. Second, we will give you guys as much notice as we can before we run the test, so be on the lookout for announcements from us. Our plan is to have the beta client download link active for a week before opening the servers so anyone who is interested will have time to download and install the client properly. Third, our CEO continues to post updates on our Engine Upgrade progress every Saturday, so be sure to check in and stay up to date as we get close to a first look at the beta!

Egg Hunt 2020

The Egg Hunt is back!

Starting April 1st, collect as many eggs as you can within a set time by mugging bunnies, chickens and other players in special Easter versions of Financial and Waterfront. Earn several new titles and some sweet Joker Tickets!

Find bunnies and chickens walking around the city, and mug them to steal their eggs. Bunnies carry 1 egg each, and chickens carry up to 5 eggs.

If you're feeling extra spiteful on this festive day, then mug other players and steal all their eggs. If it's just too dicey, you can take out players for half of their egg supply (rounded to the nearest whole number).

You may deliver any eggs you are carrying to contacts, which will prevent them from being stolen. Keep the following in mind:

    The Easter Egg Hunt is a free-for-all event, with no teams or factions.
    Each game lasts 20 minutes.
    After mugging a chicken, bunny, or player you will receive a speed boost and become invulnerable for a short time. This egg shield will allow you to make a quick escape and it's indicated by a ring of floating eggs appearing around your character.
    While invulnerable you will not be allowed to use any weapons, and the effect will be cancelled if you enter a vehicle or activate certain character mods.
    Other players cannot interfere while you are mugging someone.
    While you're carrying the top 20% number of eggs in the district you will not be able to return to the lobby, so be sure to drop your eggs off at a contact first before heading out.
    If you have the highest number of eggs, then you will become an Egg Lord! You will be visible to other players on the map making you easier to hunt down until you drop off your eggs.

JMB 23 - The New Corsair

Hi everyone, this is Matt, and this month I thought I would take some time to talk about the new JMB, where we plan to go with the JMB system, and our choice to add a new legendary shotgun.

To start, I would like to reassure everyone that these additions did not take away from our Engine Upgrade efforts. Everything we added used systems we already had in place. We are trying to walk the line between providing fun content the community asks for, moving forward on our own goals for updating systems to be fairer and more fun, and not taking away from our push to complete the Engine Upgrade.

Next, I liked the idea of releasing a slug shotgun for our new legendary because this is something we see commonly requested, and it felt thematically aligned with our newly released shotgun balance stats. If you are curious, this is what the Corsair slug shotgun stats look like.

You can find lore and a picture of the Corsair in our original announcement.

I do want to acknowledge that I had hoped to significantly alter the JMB system by now. There is a plan in place that I think players will enjoy, but we just haven’t had the time to implement it yet. Having said that, Little Orbit has only released 2 legendaries in the 22 months since we took over, and it feels like we are quite a bit overdue. Even so, I still want to reduce the randomized loot aspect of these boxes.

So, since it’s Joker Madness month, I have decided that in addition to the random rewards, JMB 23 will also give a guaranteed amount of Joker Tickets. That means regardless of whether you get the legendary you’re chasing, you will still earn tickets that can be spent in the Joker Store for other permanent guns. This is a baby step. But since it didn’t involve reworking any other systems, we were able to implement it right away as an experiment.

If you’d like to check it out for yourself, JMB 23 is now available in ARMAS. I hope you enjoy the new legendary shotgun as we continue full steam on the Engine Upgrade.

Thanks,

Matt

Patch Build number - 1.20.0 (1219)

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 3/4/2020. The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 4 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

This week kicks off Joker Madness, where we are greatly increasing both the drop rate and the number of Joker Tickets dropped from opposed missions for the month of March. We are also moving all of the shotgun stats that have been tested into all districts. These stats are what we are comfortable going live with, but they could still be tweaked in the future.

Changes/Fixes

    Moving shotgun stats from Prototype districts into all Districts.
    Doubling drop chance of Joker Tickets from opposed missions for the Joker Madness event.
    Tripling the amount of Joker Tickets dropped from opposed missions for the Joker Madness event.

Joker Madness

Ticket to Fun

This March, get ready for a little mayhem. Starting with our March 4th patch, we will be granting triple Joker Ticket rewards in Action Districts. That’s right, for every mission you complete, you will get three times the Joker Ticket rewards! Not only that, but Joker Ticket drop rates will be doubled! Get more bang for your slaying for a limited time this month. But the madness doesn’t stop there! We are also introducing a new Joker Mystery Box with some improved value.

But first, let’s talk a moment about shotguns.

Going Live

Thanks in large part to your guys’ feedback and testing, we are happy to announce that we have stats we are now comfortable pushing to live. Here are the numbers that will be in the game with our March 4th patch:

After testing the 2017 stats with the help of the community, we found there were some tweaks that needed to be made to ensure that all shotguns were balanced in line with other weapon changes that have been made in the past year. These stats represent a number of iterations from the initial 2017 baseline, and we think they are in a better place than what we have currently. Please note that, while we are pushing these numbers to live, they are not set in stone. A few tweaks will probably be needed in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out of any changes need to be made, and be sure to let us know in the forums.

Boom, Baby

Now that we’ve covered the changes to live, we want to give you a little preview of a new legendary shotgun that will be appearing in Joker Mystery Box 23: The RHD LS1 "Corsair"

RHD LS1 "Corsair"

This Slug Shotgun from RedHill Homeland Defense was "inspired" by STABBA's NL9 series. Capable of firing powerful slug rounds, users of the Corsair will benefit from precision and power at the cost of your typical 8 round capacity and conventional shotgun spread.

If big risk and big reward is your jam, be sure to keep your eye on ARMAS for this big baby. It will be here March 11th!

Killer Value

We’ve been watching Joker Mystery Boxes closely, and one thing we’ve been wanting to do is increase the guarenteed value of the box. It should always feel good to crack one open. That is why we are happy to announce that opening Joker Mystery Box 23 will always grant 100 Joker Tickets on top of its normal prizes! We’ll be keeping an eye on this system and adjusting as necessary, but this is our first small step towards making sure Joker Mystery Boxes remain a compelling and exciting part of your APB gameplay.

Heart To Heart

Valentine Event 2020

They say cupid stalks the land with a bow and arrow and an eye for mischief. They say that anyone struck by cupid’s arrow falls madly in love with the next person they see, and that they’d do anything for this person’s affections. Well, we say that stomach butterflies are an invasive species, and that roofies are not okay. We’ve got a quarrel with cupid, and we raise him some hot lead to his quiver and bow. Whether you’re partnered up or forever alone, it’s time to show this bad baby what for and earn some sweet treats in the process.

Here’s how the 2020 Valentine event, running from February 2 through February 19, will go down:

Love lost (Valentine's 2020 daily activities)

First, while cupid doesn’t make things easy, we’ve got your back! You can get the goods through daily activities. Just complete three "Love Lost" events in a single day and you’ll earn rewards. The first time you do this you’ll get one set of rewards, the second time you get a new set of rewards, etc. Do this four times and you’ll earn all these:

    Day 1 = Title: “Shock;” Title: “Denial;” Title: “Together Forever;” 5 Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Day 2 = Title: “Anger;” Title: “Bargaining;” Title: “It’s Complicated;” 5 Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Day 3 = Title: “Guilt;” Title: “Depression;” Title: “Single;” 5 Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Day 4 = Title: “Acceptance;” Title: “Forever Alone;” Unlock: Valentine’s Quiver Backpack; 5 Valentine’s Gift Boxes

Not to mention, every time you finish a mission, you’ll have a chance to receive an additional pack of 2-5 Valentine's Gift Boxes!

Valentine week massacre

The second way you can progress is by racking up kills with the following primary weapons:

    STAR 556 'Love-Gun' - Gifted on login (please check your in-game mail after the Love Patch on 2/5)
    Colby M-1922 'Chopper' - Level 4 reward of the 'Valentine's Week Massacre' role
    Joker SR15 'Casanova' - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Obeya CR762 'Heartbreaker' - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Colby CSG-20 'Speed-Dater' - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    N-HVR 243 'Cupid's Arrow' - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    STAR 556 'Love-Gun' R&D III - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes
    Colby M-1922 'Big Chopper' - Available through ARMAS & Valentine’s Gift Boxes

Laying your love to rest will advance your “Valentine’s Week Massacre” role and grant you:

    50 Kills = Death Theme: Romance
    150 Kills = Clothing: Love Heart Glasses
    300 Kills = Death Theme: Pizza Guy
    500 Kills = Colby M-1922 'Chopper' (10-Day Lease); Clothing: Pink Police Hat; Unlock: STAR 556 'Love-Gun'
    750 Kills = Title: “Casanova;” Valentine's Weapon Skin

Snubbed love

Finally, the third way you can progress is by racking up kills with the Colby SNR 850 'Cherub' secondary weapon (Gifted on login. Please check your in-game mail after the Love Patch on 2/5).

The "Snubby Love" role will grant you:

    25 Kills = Unlock: Ophelia - Blond Decal
    75 Kills = Enforcers: Prentiss Tigers "Violet Valentine" Symbol; Criminals: Bloodroses "Rose-Heart" Symbol
    150 Kills = Unlock: Ophelia - Redhead Decal
    250 Kills = Unlock: Colby SNR 850 'Cherub'
    375 Kills = Title: “Cherub Chaser”

Community manager manhunt

Speaking of slaughter, our team has been hard at work testing shotgun changes with the community. We recently changed our prototype districts to Asylum to gather your guys’ feedback. If you want to get down into the details, Selali has an explanation of our testing process you can look at, as well as his most recent thoughts on shotguns here.

As part of these shotgun testing efforts, our Community Manager Sakebee will be jumping on the EU servers starting at 7 AM UTC this coming Saturday (2/8/20) to get some games going in the Prototype district. If you've ever wanted to run circles around a staff member with a shotgun (for science), now's your chance! Sakebee will be running around the game for about an hour, split between Criminal and Enforcer. Be sure to stop on by and say hi!

Call for more GMS

We are looking to add more GMs to our volunteer program. If you think you have what it takes to be a helpful, impartial, and fair ambassador who can help maintain our standards for community behavior, now is your chance! As a GM, you will be engaging with the community in the game itself. If you’d like to get involved and learn more, please check out the official forum post.

Unreal 3.5 engine upgrade (APB 2.1)

We continue to make good progress on the Engine Upgrade. Over the past couple weeks we’ve identified critical bottlenecks to our build’s performance, tightened up our lighting, and turned our attention to console memory issues. For a week by week breakdown, please check out this thread on our forums. Our CEO continues to post updates on our Engine Upgrade progress every Saturday once development has completed all their tasks for the week. You can see how many issues have been identified and fixed so far, including some screenshots.

If you want to keep track of where we are, you can see our latest update here: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/11333-tracking-the-engine-upgrade/?tab=comments#comment-165219

[PC & Console] Shotgun Testing Patch Announcement 1.20.0 (1204)

Hello everyone,

A new patch is going up onto the Live servers for PC. This patch will be happening on Wednesday 1/29/2020. The Patch is scheduled to start at 9 AM UTC and will last up to 6 hours. Console will have its normal maintenance starting at 9 AM UTC as well.

Overview

    We’re ready to jump back in with a new round of Shotgun testing! This time the prototype test districts will be using the Asylum map to get the most from your playtesting. We are also moving the changes to the NTEC and its variants into the normal districts. Please take a look at our write-up of these tests so you can get the best background info for your own tests.
    The jump modifier will be taking effect across all NTEC weapons and their variants. The Modifier Cap was 2.8 in the Prototype districts but will be going live at 2.4. We are currently not modifying the NTEC7-Compact or the NTEC-Scope at this time.

Changes/Fixes

    Fixed decals to be correctly granted when obtaining the Triceratops, Demoness, Tarot: Death, Tarot: Priestess, and Tarot: Tower preset clothing bundles.
    Removed the need for a specific rank for Prototype Districts.
    You can no longer get Heat 5 while in missions.
    Removed explosives from being able to be resupplied from large ammunition boxes.
    You can now access your inventory from large ammunition boxes.
    PSN -1 error is now fixed.

Hitting The Road(Map)

APB in 2020

It’s the start of a brand-new year, so today we’d like to take a moment and talk about our goals for APB in 2020. One criticism we’ve heard from the community is that you’d like to see our engineers’ talents focused on things like our Engine Upgrade and gameplay improvements. We’ve been listening, and we are happy to announce that all our event builds from January through April are now locked and loaded. That means that, starting now, our engineers can devote their complete focus to bringing you the Engine Upgrade this year. As part of this journey, we will be looking at shotgun balance and a few quality of life changes along the way.

Shotgun balance

One of the first things we want to do is finish balancing shotguns and bring them back to a fun and healthy place. To do it, we need your help. Please organize with your friends and do some missions in the Prototype District. Your feedback will be critical for not only improving how shotguns play, but also for moving us forward to our next phase, which is to have a prototype version of Asylum up and running for you as soon as we’ve gotten some good data.

To get involved and leave your feedback, please visit our original forum thread here: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/12671-call-for-shotgun-testing/

Quality of life changes

As part of this effort, we are looking to get a number of quality of life improvements into the game. The order and timing of these improvements is still dependant on a number of factors, so we don’t want to make specific predictions as to when these will occur, but we wanted to give you a sense of some of the things we have been working on. These include:

    Modifying the Bounty system to keep you from getting "Heat 5" in missions
    Removing the Rank restriction on Prototype districts
    Balance passes on cars and mods plus continued balance on various weapons

Unreal 3.5 engine upgrade (APB 2.1)

Of course, all of the changes listed above are secondary to our efforts to finish the Engine Upgrade. If you haven’t seen it already, our CEO continues to post weekly updates on our Engine Upgrade progress to our forums. He tries to do this every Saturday once development has completed all their tasks for the week. You can see how many issues have been identified and fixed so far, including some screenshots.

If you want to keep track of where we are, you can visit our forums here: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/11333-tracking-the-engine-upgrade

Introducing our new community manager

We also have a new community manager for 2020. Sakebee will be taking over from Lixil as the point person for your community needs. For more details (or if you just want to say hi), stop by the forums and read their full introduction: https://forums.gamersfirst.com/ https://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/12641-community-manager-introduction/
